Boston -- A New Hampshire man admitted Monday that he worked with several other people to steal more than $10,000 worth of stamps from vending machines in Salem, N.H., and Woburn, Mass.
Richard Melcher, 47, pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy to commit theft of property used by the U.S. Postal Service, the Lowell Sun reported.
Melcher and four other people allegedly stole $10,486 worth of stamps and other postal property between October and December 2006, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The stamps were stolen from vending machines inside the post offices, the paper reported.
Melcher used folded newspaper and tin foil to trick the machines' anti-theft equipment, prosecutors said.
