Oohhh, my very own topic!!! LOL http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif Well, the academy that I'm joining starts in January. Right now I am considered a recruit because I'm not actually an Explorer YET. (You hafta go through the academy first). My first meeting was last week, and me and the other recruits got to hear about what we'll be doing. The actual academy is on Saturdays (remember this is all a lil different for us) but ours is from about 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition to this, we act as aids to Deputies and can go on ride alongs with the cops. Our post fingerprints every Wed. nite, and this next month we are helping direct traffic at a special event at the mall. We also get to role play as victims in a fake train crash to train our real police officers. There are competitions that you go to w/ physical skills as well as police skills against other posts. I live in So Cal and some of these competitions are out of state! Our post does special trips just for fun, too. And we hafta learn radio codes, marching skills, shoe-shining LOL, and other police stuff. The academy is run almost militarily (I haven't actually gone yet but that's what our sargeants have said). Ummm, the age is from 16 - 21, here at least. That's all I can think of for now, post any specific questions & I'll try to answer. And I was JW, what state/area are you in?

I personally dunno if there's one in TN. You should call your sheriff station and find out, if you're interested. I bet they do, because it's a national thing. And one more thing I wanted to add: one of the last things we get to do at the acaemy is learn how to fire a gun! That sounds really exciting to me.
