View Full Version : First two seasons are now complete!
Lee G 04-21-2008, 10:39 AM Taping the uncut episodes from Chicago's Me-TV, I now have seasons one and two complete. They just started airing the third season episodes, so now I'm working on those. If all goes well and they keep the same schedule airing two episodes on Sundays, I should have all the episodes by early or mid August. I'm keepin me fingers crossed.
Jude The Obscure 04-21-2008, 05:26 PM That's great Lee!! :) Nice that some station somewhere is doing this. Would be nice if ME-TV got franchised!

Nice to hear an update!!! I will continue to wait patiently, but the mid august thing worries me a bit because the schedule will likely change for the summer.....teeveecloset@aol.com

Yea, I know what you mean. Hopefully they will keep Patty Duke on the schedule thru the spring and summer. I'm happy that they are now airing the 3rd season episodes, I want the whole series but those 3rd season ones are my favorites.
I am taping these on VHS-SP, it will take 26 tapes for the whole series. I leave the commercials in, so it's the entire 30 minute telecast. There are not many commercials anyway since the episodes are uncut. Occasionally they include old commercials from the past, so it's cool to see those too. I've transferred the season 1 and 2 episodes on to DVD's, they look superb, it is basically 10 out of 10 quality. I have the pilot episode too, that one is transferred from film.
I do strive for perfection, but of the 72 episodes I have so far, 7 of them have minor issues but it's nothing to be too concerned about. I'll provide more details later once I have all the 3rd season episodes taped. Hopefully there will be no problems with those. But when all is said and done, this set will be a major upgrade over any Patty Duke set that's out there right now.
TeeVeeCloset 04-22-2008, 11:29 AM Great to hear the news, I am very passionate about the hobby and quality as well, not picky but just make my dvd's with custom artwork, etc for fun....good luck and again thanks for the update!

Thanx for the good words! :) I must admit it's been a bit of a chore taping these, especially now since they air it on Sundays in the wee hours of the morning. But I like the show and getting the uncut episodes is what makes all the effort and work worthwhile.
Jude The Obscure 04-22-2008, 04:50 PM It's rare for any channel to run anything uncut! Maybe later on, we can work out a deal?

Would like to help ya out, we'll see. I want to make a set of episodes for TeeVeeCloset, to be honest I barely have enough time to make DVD's for me because I work at my regular job six days a week. I don't want to make too many commitments and not be able to deliver. Let's wait till I have the complete series, and we'll go from there.

A Big Sigh Of Relief and I feel very fortunate to have a wonderful Patty Duke Show collector pal like yourself to remember me....by the way I do have Patty guesting on Password playing her TV characters and a week of Tattletales with Patty & John in mint quality with the original commercials! So I will patiently wait and continue to wish you the best of luck!
Jude The Obscure 04-22-2008, 06:09 PM Don't worry, Lee. I won't be banging down your door wanting the DVDs anytime soon. I'm not in a great financial position anyway--medical problems and can't do more than part time work at the present. But maybe later down the road, ok, bud? :)

No problem, Jude. All the best to ya, will see you here on the board. We can work out a deal sometime down the line.

You're welcome, just want to let you know my DVD's don't have any fancy artwork, the menus are simple with episode selection. But the Patty Duke eps are uncut and overall the quality is top-notch. That's the important thing. This will be a great collection when I have the series completed.
Lee G:
Could you tell me which of your 7 PDS episodes from seasons 1 & 2 have minor issues?
I may be able to help.
Thanks !!!

Thanks for the offer, I do have another set of Patty Duke episodes, they are from the old TV Land airings. These run mostly in the 24 minute range, which is not bad, the quality isn't great but at least I have these as back ups in the event I need em.

No problem, I didn't expect you to provide artwork, etc....its the uncut episodes and the quality that is most important....I meant in my hobby time I make my own artwork for cases, etc.....again I thank you for remembering me and we will all keep our fingers crossed for them to complete airing the series.

Actually, I have the ME TV airings for most of the Patty Duke Shows which have been shown, thusfar. I thought perhaps I could trade you replacements for the ones you describe as having "minor issues" and maybe you could provide the few that I am missing.
In addition, I have several other uncut episodes from film. Coincidentally, one of my film episodes very nicely replaces one of those horrible GREEN episodes which aired on St. Patrick's Day, last year. Why did they have to do that, anyway?
And, I know exactly what you mean about that 24 minute set from NIK. I have it, too, and there is no comparison to these ME TV airings.
Just wanted to see if we could help one another out with our mutual "quest" for great-ness and complete-ness with this wonderful show.

Sounds good. While I'm working on taping the 3rd season episodes and it will take some time yet till I get them all, I'll go ahead and describe the 7 episodes from seasons one and two with those minor issues.
First off, there is one episode from season one and one season two episode that are not from Me-TV. They are episode 15- Christmas Present, and episode 57- Patty And The Newspaper Game. Either I missed these or they didn't air them. So for these two episodes I use my back up copies from TV Land. They both run about 24 minutes, they appear to be the uncut episodes but slightly time compressed which would explain the shorter running time. The main difference is the quality isn't as good as the Me-TV ones and there are no commercials. I leave the commercials intact on the Me-TV airings.
Episode 32- Drop Out, and episode 33- Leave It To Patty, were shown a couple years ago on St. Patrick's Day. Because it was the holiday, Me-TV had the brilliant idea to air these episodes with a green tint in the picture. It's quite annoying, when watching these two episodes I usually turn the color off on the TV set.
These next three episodes are the ones with the main problems, problems that occured due to a defect on the VHS tape. Episode 22- Going Steady, episode 23- Are Mothers People?, and episode 61- the Sammy Davis one, have a horizontal line that runs thru the picture. On episode 22 it's there for about the last ten minutes of the episode. On episode 61 the line is there for about the first eight to nine minutes of the episode. On episode 23 the line runs thru the entire episode. These episodes look great just like the others, but the line can be a distraction. Damn these defective tapes, it doesn't happen to me often but once in a while I end up with a bad one.
So that's it, hopefully I will have no problems with the season three episodes. I strive to be perfect, but I guess when you are taping a 100 episode show from TV, some minor glitches are bound to happen.

So you are taping the episodes too? Very cool. And here I thought I was the only one. LOL! Do you leave the commercials in or do you edit them out?
I posted my episodes that have problems, look it over and let me know what you have and what you need. Perhaps we can exchange episodes.
On the other hand, I thought it over and I'm going to stay with the episodes I have. Yea a few of em have minor flaws, but nothing terrible. And my thinking is, Me-TV will give these episodes another run, so I can get the two I missed and replace the flawed ones the second time around.
The only one of your 7 episodes with issues that I would not be able to help you with would be 57: The Newspaper Game. Apparently, it did not air.
The other 6 episodes I do have. They are 100% uncut from film all with over 25 minute running times. I guess I didn't realize I had a replacement for the other green episode until I checked.
61 with Sammy Davis, Jr has original commercials and I have 7 other episodes which have original commercials. They are fun to see.
You are much more optimistic than I am that ME TV will begin all over again with season 1. In fact, I will be extremely surprised if they even finish out season 3.
They are skipping around with Father Knows Best episodes.
Should you change your mind, again. Let me know.

Thanks but I'll stand pat with what I have right now, will let you know if I reconsider. I contacted Me-TV a while back and was told they plan to air all the episodes in seasonal order, and they are considering airing the show more often. So that provides optimism that perhaps they'll give the episodes a second run.
Those two green episodes don't bother me too much, they had a silly idea there but it is what it is. My back up copy of episode 61 also has the original commercials, I will probably put that version on the DVD because there are no video problems. The first two seasons are done, hopefully all will go well with season three and the series will be complete!
April 27: This morning they aired episodes 74 & 75. Episode 75 is the one where Patty sings the song- Funny Little Butterflies. Great song, great episode. Harold Peary (aka The Great Gildersleeve) also appears in the episode.
May 4: Got episodes 76 & 77 today. I'm especially glad to get #77, my other copy of this one is poor quality and is cut, but now it's upgraded to excellent and is the uncut episode.
May 11: Got episodes 78 & 79 today. #79 is a funny one, that's the secret agent/spy episode which basically spoofs other shows of the time like Get Smart and Man From UNCLE.
I'm glad they are now airing season three, my favorite group of episodes and hopefully I'll get em all! :)
Jude The Obscure 05-15-2008, 11:49 AM So Lee, any update on how the taping is going?

That's OK, so far so good with season three. But still 25 episodes to go, I'm keepin me fingers crossed.
Just to summarize: My season one episodes are all uncut from Me-TV except for the pilot (uncut from film) and episode 15 (TV Land airing). Episodes 22, 23, 32, & 33 have minor video issues, but it's nothing terrible.
Season two I have all uncut from Me-TV except episode 57 (TV Land airing) and episode 61 (uncut with original commercials).
Jude The Obscure 05-16-2008, 07:59 PM Here's hoping and wishing you the best!

Good for you!! Patty Patty Patty Patty!!!
Lee G 05-20-2008, 04:57 PM Thanx Jude & rich. I  Patty also, she was a cutie back in the day, ideal 60's girl. I got episodes 80 & 81 this past weekend, 23 episodes left to go.
Jude The Obscure 05-20-2008, 05:33 PM alright!!!! :D
Actually I first discovered Patty when she was Patty Duke-Astin. Nearly watched almost every TV show she has done such as the short lived "It Takes Two" with Richard Crenna, Helen Hunt and Anthony Edwards.

Awesome!
Lee G 05-27-2008, 11:40 AM I have now added episodes 82 & 83. If there are no changes to the schedule and they continue airing two episodes on Sundays, I should have the 104th and final episode on August 10th. But there is always a chance they could change the schedule, so I just take one week at a time and keep me fingers crossed.
OH Nuts! 06-08-2008, 09:56 AM Good for you! You will now have this wonderful collection to revisit over and over. Patty is just devine. I envy you.

LOL yep I'm tryin. To be honest, it's not an easy task right now taping the episodes. They air them on Sundays in the wee hours of the morning. I don't want to program my VCR, so I tape the first one at 12:30 AM and then I stay up till the next one comes on at 4AM and I tape that one also. That 4AM airing is a killer, good thing Sunday is my one day off from work and I don't have to get up early. But getting the uncut episodes makes it worth staying up for.
Jude The Obscure 06-14-2008, 02:24 PM Well, it will be worth it indeed. A treasure! Since no one is showing any interest as of yet of getting Patty out on DVD.

I imagine season one will eventually come out, but when that will happen I don't know.
I have now added episodes 88 & 89. 15 more eps left to go.
Jude The Obscure 06-16-2008, 04:23 PM Yea, but at the rate things we WANT to see come out, we'll either be too old & decrepit or just out and out dead!
Lee G 06-22-2008, 12:29 PM I have now added episodes 90 & 91. I previously had a poor copy of episode 90, I'm happy to now have a clean, uncut copy of it. :)
Jude The Obscure 06-30-2008, 07:12 PM Lee, you da man, you da man!!!
Lee G 06-30-2008, 08:33 PM Lee, you da man, you da man!!!
LOL thanx buddy. I have now added episodes 92 & 93, 11 more eps left to go.
TeeVeeCloset 06-30-2008, 09:54 PM Continued good luck, remember you can take a long deserved nap when all those 4am tape nights are over, but in a way I bet you'll miss staying up...lol....
Lee G 07-01-2008, 04:31 PM Continued good luck, remember you can take a long deserved nap when all those 4am tape nights are over, but in a way I bet you'll miss staying up...lol....
Yep, it has been a challenge staying up for the one at 4AM. But according to the schedule I'll have to do it just 5 more times, so that's not too bad.
Lee G 07-06-2008, 01:09 PM I have now added episodes 94 & 95. #94 is funny, that's the one where Patty takes care of an old ladys dog while the lady is away. Next week, the episode- Do You Trust Your Daughter is scheduled. I'm looking forward to this one, it contains what's likely the most dramatic and tender scene in the series history.
The countdown is now under 10, just 9 episodes left to go.
Jude The Obscure 07-06-2008, 01:23 PM Lee G, you're my hero! :D
Lee G 07-07-2008, 09:41 PM Lee G, you're my hero! :D
LOL thanx for your support. I'm eager to complete the series now that it's getting close to the end. Hopefully they will air the remaining episodes and I'll get em all without any problems.
Jude The Obscure 07-08-2008, 11:39 PM oh you will, my friend! I can just smell the Patty Dukeness coming through!
:)
Lee G 07-13-2008, 11:50 AM I have now added episodes 96 & 97. Yep, #97 is a classic, an unusally serious episode and the scene at the end with Patty and William Schallert is a real tearjerker.
The countdown continues, just 7 episodes left to go.
Lee G 07-20-2008, 12:03 PM I have now added episodes 98 & 99. Getting close to the end now, just 5 more episodes left to go.
Lee G 07-27-2008, 11:34 AM I have now added episodes 100 & 101. Getting very close to the end now, just 3 episodes left to go.
OH Nuts! 07-27-2008, 02:13 PM Good for you. I'm hoping this show will come out on DVD too. If Father Knows Best can, maybe Patty will one day. Patty rocks.
Jude The Obscure 07-27-2008, 08:14 PM Woo hoo!!!!!!! ya da man, Lee!
Lee G 08-03-2008, 10:41 AM I have now added episodes 102 & 103. So it has come down to this, the series is nearly complete, just 1 more episode left to go. How cool is that. And my late nights of staying up till 4AM are now history. :)
After I tape the final episode on Aug. 10th, this is what I will have: 101 of the 104 episodes are uncut airings from Me-TV. I left the commercials in, so it's the full 30 minute telecast. Quality is superb. I also have the pilot episode, which is uncut from film. Of the three episodes not from Me-TV, two are uncut from film, one has the original commercials and the other has no commercials. The other episode is an old airing from Nick At Nite, that episode I want to upgrade before doing any transactions with the episodes.
I also want to replace episodes 32 & 33 from season one, those are the two "green" episodes which Me-TV aired last year on St. Patricks Day. And then I need to upgrade the one episode from Nick At Nite, which is episode 57 from season two. Once I do that, I should be all set.
TeeVeeCloset 08-04-2008, 11:01 AM Thanks for the update Lee G., hopefully you will get the perfect set you want and deserve and they will continue to play Patty, maybe a few more nights staying up at 4AM might be in your future...lol......I'm ready whenever you are but till then I wish you the best!
Lee G 08-04-2008, 11:37 AM Thanks for the update Lee G., hopefully you will get the perfect set you want and deserve and they will continue to play Patty, maybe a few more nights staying up at 4AM might be in your future...lol......I'm ready whenever you are but till then I wish you the best!
Thanks my friend. It looks like Me-TV plans to give the Patty Duke shows another run, so I will be looking to get those few episodes I need to upgrade. The program schedule will likely change in September, hopefully Patty Duke will remain on the schedule. My season three episodes are all fine, I just want to replace two eps from the 1st season and one ep from the 2nd season.
Jude The Obscure 08-04-2008, 02:18 PM Would be nice if they would rerun it on the daily schedule-that way you would have opportunity to get those upgraded episodes faster! :)
Lee G 08-04-2008, 03:37 PM Would be nice if they would rerun it on the daily schedule-that way you would have opportunity to get those upgraded episodes faster! :)
That's true. I'm pretty sure they will make changes to the schedule in September, we'll see what happens. I only want upgrades of three episodes, so that's not bad.
I look forward to getting the 104th and final episode on Sunday. I've made DVD's of the episodes I have so far, they really look sharp. A couple episodes have a minor video issue due to a defect on the VHS tape, otherwise the quality is very near what you would expect to see if this were an official release from the studio. Taping the episodes on VHS SP has really made the difference, that is the way to go.
Jude The Obscure 08-04-2008, 04:03 PM You're one smart cookie, Lee!

Lee G 08-04-2008, 04:42 PM You're one smart cookie, Lee!

No milk, but I can toast ya with a beer after I tape the final episode on Sunday. If all goes well, that will be reason to celebrate.
Jude The Obscure 08-04-2008, 07:49 PM Well you drink your beer......I'll have me some chocolate milk

Lee G 08-05-2008, 04:21 PM The third season is my favorite, so I'm glad the third season tapings have all gone smoothly so far. I think the show was best in it's final season, to me the last season is the most pleasing one. A few changes were made which gave the show a more appealing look. And the actors all seem well settled in their roles as well. Another interesting thing about the last season, they seemed to get away a bit from the "identical cousins" gimmick and there is less of Cathy and more of Patty's brother Ross. This is a good thing, as it gave the series a fresh look and also the fact Patty and Ross are funny together getting themselves in goofy situations.
Jude The Obscure 08-07-2008, 03:34 PM Makes one wonder how better the show could have gotten with a fourth season!
Lee G 08-07-2008, 04:38 PM The show was still popular in it's third season and possibly would have been renewed, but they would have had to switch to color episodes for the 4th season in 1966-67. With Patty playing the dual part, it was decided the show would have been too costly to produce in color, so the series was axed. They could have got around this issue by writing the part of Cathy out of the show, perhaps they could have had her move back to native country or some similar scenario. But regardless, I think Patty was getting tired of the series and ready to move on. To see a 4th season would have been interesting, but all things considered- the series probably ended at the right time.
Jude The Obscure 08-08-2008, 02:12 PM Prolly so......and we can say with confidence--this show never jumped the shark! :)
OH Nuts! 08-08-2008, 03:12 PM Absolutely. Patty's just devine in anything she touches. Young or old.
mego73#2 10-04-2008, 01:03 AM In case you haven't found a way, My Equipment can put the green episodes on DVD with the green tint taken out.
Lee G 10-04-2008, 10:19 AM In case you haven't found a way, My Equipment can put the green episodes on DVD with the green tint taken out.
Thanks but I decided not to be too concerned with those green tinted episodes. There are only two of those and while the green picture can be a tad annoying, it doesn't really detract from the enjoyment of the episodes.
