We had a thread for overrated contestants, so I thought I'd start one for underrated contestants. Who do you think never got the attention they deserved on the show?

I thought Phil Stacey last year was underrated. I think he was the best singer out of all the guys. He should have gotten more attention. Instead, it seemed like he was often overshadowed by Blake, Chris R., and Sanjaya. I thought Simon was really harsh with him some weeks and he didn't deserve it.

This year, I think David H. was very underrated. He deserved to go farther than he did. Maybe they thought there were too many Davids on the show at once. I also didn't think Jason Y. was really all that bad. He just made two stupid song choices. Alaina deserved to make the Top 12 too.

she's my second favorite this year and anyone who wants to go on about how much she "so to2ally sux" can go die. listen to "Anyway" and "Forever" (i dont care about what the stupid judges said) and tell me she does not have vocal skills. sure she was just "meh" in the semis and early finals, but top 10 week she stepped it up and was pretty consistent from then on.

Camile Velasco from Season 3 was also very underrated IMO. even though she always looked scared in her performances, you have to actually listen to the vocals and you'll hear that she actually has a really unique voice. if she had until she was more experienced to audition she could've been really awesome.

and i agree - Alaina deserved the top 12 over Amanda to be honest.

Nikko Smith (Season 4)
Camile Velasco (Season 3)
Jon Peter Lewis (Season 3)
Amy Adams (Season 3)
Anwar Robinson (Season 4)
Vonzell Solomon (Season 4... so far the only girl with a Diva-esque voice that I think was UNDERrated. All the others: Jennifer Hudson, La Toya London, Fantasia Barrino, Melinda Doolittle etc were incredibly OVERrated)

The ones I can think of right now...

Vanessa Olivarez (Season 2)
Amy Adams (Season 3)
Sarah Mather (Season 4)
Mandisa (Season 5)
Gina Glocksen (Season 6)

I think that's about it.

yeah, Nikko Smith was very underrated too. he should've made it much further. he had a good voice and style.

Elliott Yamin was underrated till he sang A Song for You, LMAO.

I just thought of another one. Now, I hate season 1 with a passion, but I think RJ Helton is VERY underrated. I think he was one of the best during season 1.. definitely better than Justin Guarini who made top 2. I don't really think he ever had any BAAADDDDDD performances either.

I think Kendall deserved a chance in the Top 13 over Megan or Jasmine. She had potential. She should have at least gotten a wildcard spot over Tat the Terrible.

I think Scott is a little underrated too. I find him so much more enjoyable to listen to than Adam, Lil, and even Kris.

Alexis did not deserve to go home this week! Megan is the one who needed to go.

I think Melinda Doolittle and Brooke White were the most underrated from their seasons. This year it's a shame Ricky and Junot didn't make it. They deserved to be in the top 13 over Megan, Michael, Matt, and Jasmine. Scott is my favorite and Danny was really good last week although I didn't like him before that. Jorge was good and was doomed by one sub-par performance.

I thought Alexis Grace should have at least made the top 10. She was very underrated to me.
