If the new Gracie doesn't work out, It's difficult to see how the show can recover. Even though the the new Gracie only appeared briefly, initial impressions have not been positive. On the other hand, the original Gracie was generally well received. (It goes almost without saying that it's too early to make any real assessment of the new Gracie.)

While many liked the Montana character, she was not essential to the shows success. So if they've goofed on that, it still would not be fatal to the show. But the way the show has evolved so far, the Gracie character is essential to the show's success. So if they've missed on having the proper actress play that part, they would seem to be in severe trouble.

The artistic talent behind the show have great track records, so you have to give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being. But things are certainly looking a bit shaky.

I hear what you are saying about Gracie and you are right. She is very essential to the show RIGHT NOW. As for Montana, she was evolving and had her own storyline being developed with Ryan. She was a solid supporting player.

I really want to see how the new Gracie does on the next couple episodes, considering those are probably the most important episodes in the show so far - when Gracie finds out Chuck's her father.

Yeah, she does seem very young, maybe around 7 or 8 to me.
