View Full Version : Redd Foxx on "The Lucy Show"...
bothteams 04-17-2008, 12:43 AM Is anyone familiar with this episode? I read that Redd Foxx and Lucille Ball did not get along during the filming. I heard that during rehearsals, Redd upstaged Lucy, and he got more laughs from the director, producers and crew. She felt humiliated and stormed off of the set, and refused to be in any scenes with Foxx. He was replaced during filming. Only this still has surfaced. There is supposed to be some extra video tape that survived, and is located at the Museum of Radio & Television in Beverly Hills. Has anyone heard of this rare episode?

Heard where and replaced by whom?
Jude The Obscure 04-17-2008, 12:23 PM it's the episode where Lucy wins the trip to London with Mr Mooney sitting on the side--Redd Foxx's face is photoshopped onto Gale Gordon's body.

Thanks Jude! I haven't seen this show in years so I never would've guessed that.
Jude The Obscure 04-17-2008, 02:54 PM You're welcome, Zoneboy! I have that episode on tape and seen it dozens of times. I also own the Lucy Book, which chronicles just about every Lucy appearance ever done on TV and Redd Foxx never once guested on The Lucy Show!

what's up with all this false information lately? First I saw someone post that he appeared on the Addams Family and that was not true and now I found out Redd Foxx never appeared on this show either.

It's the same person who started both threads.

I think your complaints should be aimed at TV Land:http://www.tvland.com/shows/sanford/actor1.jhtml
Don't get me wrong. I am impressed with the knowledge of forum members. However, seems many folks only know about TV episodes that actually aired. There are many episodes that are "scrapped" by the studios, and instances where scenes are deleted and actors are replaced. I am about to go to The Museum of Radio & Television and try to take a cell phone pic of Redd Foxx on "Green Acres".

The picture's you're posting are fakes. TV Land is wrong. They know nothing about classic tv anymore anyway.

First you tell us that Redd Foxx was on The Addam's Family but that episode never aired for racial reasons. Then he was on The Lucy Show but was replaced because he upstaged Lucy who refused to work with him and now you're going to get a photo of him on Green Acres. What happened with that episode, Did Redd Foxx upstage Arnold Ziffel?

I can't believe TV Land actually has that crap listed in Redd Foxx's bio. Who does the research over there? Certainly not people who watch classic TV!

They're the ones who think we want to watch reality tv and movies on that network. They've lost touch.

No, I mean the episode where Ricky's band goes on strike, so Ricky gets Fred, Lemont, Grady, Skillet, and Julio to perform as backups. They do a pretty bad job, until the last minute, when B.B. King and Lena Horne step in to help out.

Don't blame TVLand completely. I first read this rumor about Redd Foxx appearing on "The Lucy Show" back around 1980. I think it was in TV Guide. So I started looking for Redd Foxx on the show only to discover that somebody had confused him with another actor who did appear on the show. That other actor was a man named John Fox, who went by his nickname, Red. This "Red Fox" appeared on several episodes of "The Lucy Show" and "Here's Lucy" starting in the third season. And yes, he also appeared in "Green Acres" and "The Addams Family," among other series. But I can tell you he looked nothing like the Redd Foxx of "Sanford and Son" fame. For starters, he was a white man. Here's his bio: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0289072/

It was a 30 second cameo. ;)
He also appeared on EVE. He played himself...a ghost.
I also remember him on LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE. He played an old black man who wanted to sell himself as a slave to the Ingalls family. His character eventually became friends with Mrs. Olsen. ;)
Jude The Obscure 05-05-2008, 06:23 PM ok, fun time is over, back to school! :D
Ireneparalegal 05-05-2008, 07:09 PM I was having fun. :(
Jude The Obscure 05-06-2008, 06:06 PM Sweetie, please you know I was just funning you all. it's been a bad day all around. I come here to help me relax and I made you not happy.
Ireneparalegal 05-06-2008, 06:26 PM It can be fun again if we can list all of Redd Foxx's "appearances" on television. Hey, even movies. I am sure Redd Foxx has many that haven't been discussed.
Did you know Redd Foxx was in the movie GONE WITH THE WIND? He played one of the butlers. ;)
Jude The Obscure 05-06-2008, 06:28 PM Well, I don't want to hi-jack The Lucy Show board for that :) it's hard enough to get anyone to come here to discuss The Lucy Show
Ireneparalegal 05-06-2008, 06:44 PM I haven't seen the Lucy Show in ages. I can't rely on my memory either. If I could, I would discuss the show. I have vague memories of it. I think it has been over 30 years since I have seen it.
TVFactFan 05-06-2008, 07:13 PM There is one redd foxx apperance I would love to see but I don't think it exists, all his appearances on the Tonight Show from 1971-1975
Ireneparalegal 05-06-2008, 07:15 PM They don't exist or you haven't found a trader who has them?
TVFactFan 05-06-2008, 07:28 PM They don't exist or you haven't found a trader who has them?
It was confirmed from the BIG TIME TRADERS ho been around for years that there are no Tonight Shows with Redd Foxx as a Guest in existence.
Ireneparalegal 05-06-2008, 07:30 PM It was confirmed from the BIG TIME TRADERS ho been around for years that there are no Tonight Shows with Redd Foxx as a Guest in existence.
Why is that? No one has them?
TVFactFan 05-06-2008, 07:38 PM Why is that? No one has them?
I'm not sure but they have Tonight show from that era with Rob Reiner and Muhammad Ali but no Redd Foxx.
I was lucky enough to find his Variety Show from 1977 on ABC, Don Knotts was a Guest
startrekkinfan 05-06-2008, 09:26 PM I Love That Episode in which Lucy with Redd Foxx.
Ireneparalegal 05-09-2008, 12:52 PM If I said anything bad, report me. I dare you. ;)
Redd Foxx also appeared as a very special guest on Barney Miller. He played a detective who was an alcoholic. His ripple caused him problems. ;)
He also appeared for a minute on Chico and the Man. He appeared as Ed's "special friend".
