Ok here goes.

it was American, it was on in the mid to late 80's, I think.

there was a mother, no father if I remeber right though there was a partner.

the son was a schemer/con artist general lad.

I remember really liking this show, but only one scean springs to mind.

If I remember it right, the mother was getting a new job, but either she didnt really want the job, or the son didnt want her to get the job....so the son breaks into her study/office, and stages a fire useing a cigar, and as he is setting the ""acidental fire"" he is doing the theme tune to mission impossible

does this jog anyones memories?

its ding my nut in trying to think what it was called or who was in it

Please help

Maybe.....It's Your Move"
with Jason Bateman (1984-85), I think he was a schemer and his mother was single. This is just a guess based on your summary of the characters.

I agree with your guess. That's what I was thinking.

Jerry had a show called "My Secret Identity" in the late 80s, but it was more in the sci-fi realm. His mother was a single in it.
