Mariah Carey has hit back at critics who have accused her of jumping on the hip-hop bandwagon.
The singer insisted that there is no truth in claims that her new album E=MC2 is a departure from her usual style of music.
She also explained that her interest in hip-hop developed after she teamed up with the late rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard in 1996.
"It gets so annoying when people make out I have gone all hip-hop just to get in on a trend," Carey complained. "I sang with Ol' Dirty Bastard, may he rest in peace, back in 1996 for the remixed version of 'Fantasy'."
Ol' Dirty Bastard, one of the founding members of the Wu Tang Clan, died of heart failure in November 2004. He was 35.
Mariah added: "I love him and I miss him. Working with him was a highlight for me."

Child_of_the_80s 04-13-2008, 11:53 PM I forgot that ODB died...wow.
I wish Mariah would stop using hip-hop artists in her songs and get back to her original formula. I loved Mariah when she first started out, the woman has talent, with talent like that, you don't need anything extra.

i enjoyed some of mariah's hits such as fantasy, always be my baby and emotions, but wasn't too keen on the emmancipation of mimi- although we'll belong together was a good song. she has a great voice, but some of her records in the last few years, hasn't been as good as her 90s ones. she should go back to basics and release another music box- type LP
vasepills 04-15-2008, 12:52 AM Mariah is just as good as she was 18 years ago. I'm so sick of haters.

^ Since when is having an different opinion "hating"?
vasepills 04-15-2008, 03:51 AM i wasn't responding to you.
I will be interested to see if Madonna will be subjected to the same criticism when her new album is released; since she brought Timbaland and Justin Timberlake in to work on her album..
;)

i didn't say i hated her music. i said i liked her earlier material the most. and no, i am not a hater

well you were obviously responding to me. i don't mean to sound rude, but you shouldn't take things so personally. if you like mariah's music so be it. why should other people's comments make any difference to you? people say negative things about the celebs that i like, but do i care what they think and say? of course not

exactly. we many not agree on the same thing, but having a opinion is NOT the same thing as agreeing with what other people have said. just because one person has a view on something does mean they are against it or hate it or him/her
Stormtracker TF 04-15-2008, 01:28 PM Mariah in the first half of the 90's was legendary and one of my favorite musicians ever, but really, if she released any of those albums today as timeless as they may be, there's no way they would be successful in the mainstream world. She's just evolved over the years as music changed. In retrospect, stuff like "We Belong Together", "Don't Forget About Us" and "Touch My Body" isn't really that far off into left field from where she started at, especally considering her first album came out over a decade and a half ago.

Well, she deserves to be criticised for teaming with them, but that's a whole other story...

That last sentence is exactly my point. Mariah has EVOLVED over the years. Do people really want an artist to sound the exact same on every album they do?
Her earlier music was pretty good, but I for one liked Mariah best during the mid-late 1990's.

well, i'll give you credit for clearing that issue up
