View Full Version : Solomon's Weekly Rant (4/12/08) Discussion: BET Messing Up; Stale Leno Jokes; Gas Pavan 04-12-2008, 01:48 PM Please read: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2008/04/mini-dvd-review-woody-woodpecker-and.html ... then discuss! JulieSomoski 04-12-2008, 01:59 PM I liked your rant, Solomon. Very true about the Diff-rent Strokes marathons. They one we just had was great, but I don't really get the need to have another 3 weeks later, either. I could see it being a 2 hour mini-marathon of the show, but now BET added 2 more hours and it officially became a marathon. I haven't noticed the editing - next time I watch, I'll look for that. If it's actually worse than ION, it must be the worst editing of any TV station in the world-LOL We already talked about the Spitzer jokes - they were funny, but now I've already had enough with them. I love Jay Leno, but a joke can only be funny so many times. It's not all his fault, though. The writers are the ones coming up with the jokes. Sometimes I think Jay was actually better off during the strike. Scoobiedoo30 04-12-2008, 02:08 PM I agree with everything you said Pavan 04-12-2008, 02:08 PM Don't agree with BET. Solomon only has one example of bad editing...everything else has been decent editing I think. I've seen every airing from season 3 and on so far on BET and it is not that bad. He forgot to state they aired one episode unedited this past Wednesday. This is no Alice on ION. As for the marathons...if you like the show why complain? 2 marathons in a month is awesome. It's not like they are 24-hour or 48-hour marathons. 8 and 5 hour marathons are acceptable for two in a month, I think. TVFactFan 04-12-2008, 02:08 PM I liked your rant, Solomon. It was no smooth blend into a another scene just a sudden cut to a new situation-lol JulieSomoski 04-12-2008, 02:12 PM Don't agree with BET. Yeah, I've never seen the bad editing Solomon's talking about, but I definitely will look for it. I do get Solomon when he's talking about the marathons. They might be wearing the show out a little too fast by airing all these marathons all the time. 2 pretty big marathons in one month is a lot. TVFactFan 04-12-2008, 02:12 PM Don't agree with BET. It's not just the AWFUL CUT from this week, I noticed bad editing everytime I watch but I didn't make a big deal about it because I'm just glad the show is in syndication, But ION still gets the slight edge when it comes to editing because that edited dance scene on BET was just the worst I seen since I had cable TVFactFan 04-12-2008, 02:14 PM Yeah, I've never seen the bad editing Solomon's talking about, but I definitely will look for it. Exactly keep the show Fresh and do a marthon maybe every other month. just don't make Diffrent Strokes the MASH of the BET NEtwork-lol Pavan 04-12-2008, 02:15 PM The first marathon did very well for them. So why not air another one close together? Plus it will help promote the weekday airings. This is a good thing. BET is not an all-sitcom/TV show channel. It is still mostly music/original series. It's only 2 short marathons...when you compare Andy Griffith on TV Land has 2 marathons in one weekend. Don't know if you guys know or not, but the deal for all their new shows (DS, Thea, Sanford, M&E) are only through August 31. So renewal depends on how they do...so let them air all they can. Scoobiedoo30 04-12-2008, 02:18 PM I am so very glad that Diff'rent Strokes did very well for BET I have a feeling that The second Marathron will also do well for BET TVFactFan 04-12-2008, 02:19 PM The first marathon did very well for them. Well atleast I will have all the post season 2 eps by 8/31 so it won't matter that much to me if it's not renewed because they would have gave me what I wanted JulieSomoski 04-12-2008, 02:31 PM It's great to see the show doing well for BET, but I don't want them airing it so many times that people get tired of it. I don't want it to be the next Andy Griffith or Fresh Prince, only on BET. If they keep airing marathons of this show every month, you never know what might happen. And if BET wants the show to get more exposure then a early evening slot like 8pm would be better than 3pm. It's a shame BET was able to make a nice acquisition but can't air the show the right way Pavan 04-12-2008, 07:00 PM 8PM on BET?? That is unrealistic. They are not a sitcom/TV show network, Solomon. Weekends is possible especially with marathons, but weekdays at 8PM?? That is very unrealistic. TVFactFan 04-12-2008, 07:32 PM 8PM on BET?? That is unrealistic. I don't see how the gas prices going up everyday is news everyday on the local TV news. TVFactFan 04-13-2008, 12:27 AM I agree about the Gas Prices. And you know something else? I don't see how the gas prices going up everyday is news everyday on the local TV news. Like my friend said-"If you drive no matter how high it goes up you still have to pay it so why even make it a story-lol nocomments 04-13-2008, 03:11 PM The cuts are pretty bothersome, but just the fact that it's on to begin with makes up for it. Between the 2 daily airings and the marathons, it makes recording the show a lot easier, so I can't complain. I was very disappointed when Sony stopped releasing the show after 2 seasons, so at least BET is giving us something for the episodes. I don't understand why they don't just make the breaks easier. Is it hard to place a commercial break after the intro, the first scene, and before the ending credits? This way, they can still have all the time in the world to air 5000 commercials of Dr. Miracle and the girl with the horrible weave. It baffles the mind, but again, I can't complain. I guess you take the good with the bad.... stevea 04-14-2008, 03:39 PM For the most part the edits aren't that bad (they DO have to ditch around 4 minutes after all!). But they (and other networks) go directly from a show frame to a commercial frame! There is NO fade--NO space! I realize time is money, but geez! When you are using a DVD recorder there is NO WAY to make a clean edit! TVFactFan 04-14-2008, 07:31 PM For the most part the edits aren't that bad (they DO have to ditch around 4 minutes after all!). When you are using a DVD recorder there is NO WAY to make a clean edit! I don't think it's no need to cut out commercials when recording a sitcom on a DVD recorder or VCR. By keeping the commercials in it's gaurunteed smooth episode with edited scenes in tact |
