TVFactFan 04-10-2008, 06:49 PM I wonder what was behind Arnold having PHONE ONLY SCENES in the ep when Kimberly went skiing-lol
Similar to Chrissy Snow on Three's Company. Wonder why Gary Coleman would be featured that way

Jude The Obscure 04-11-2008, 06:54 PM So what was the deal with him just having two brief scenes again in the Drummond Has Korean Son episode? Just what was going on? Was Gary on a contract dispute or was he ill? Notice the other episode had Tootie again--and she is annoying on DS!

She actually made me laugh today
TootIe: So why is the Guy Suing you Mr. drummond
Mr. Drummond: because i gave him a raise
Tootie: Oh thanks, that makes sense
LOL
ThomasE 04-13-2008, 02:05 PM The reason why we saw those short scene with Gary Coleman was most likely due to his contract issues with the show. Chances are that after he came to terms with the producers, they filmed him in the studio and added his tag scenes in the non Tootie episodes for the beginning of that season to make it seem that his presence was there. They needed an element for each episode that would have been either Arnold or Tootie.
Plus, I think that his tag scene were filmed all in one or maybe two days. I think that they put him on a swing set and gave him his lines as he was on camera and taped him. He probably had his little script and performed.

i'm not sure why gary was fighting with NBC for more money when the show was never in the top 10
ThomasE 04-13-2008, 02:33 PM Still, there was a big fan base with the show and the show did have respectable ratings. I think his parents had a lot to do with it as well.
Jude The Obscure 04-13-2008, 05:32 PM What were NBC's biggest hits at the time?

Little House on the Prarie
Chips
Pavan 04-14-2008, 01:30 AM He missed a few episodes at the start of season 4 due to a contract dispute. He did it at the start of season two, too, but they just delayed production and there were no missed episodes...they didn't do that for the start of season four. He missed episodes due to his kidney condition in season 6 or 7. Here is some details from the dispute right from the SO DS website:
In July of 1979, dumpling-cheeked, pudgy prodigy Gary Coleman held up shooting on the show because, it was reported, he wanted "more money, added benefits, and a bodyguard." Specifically, he wanted $30,000 per episode (as opposed to the $1,600 he'd been getting).
He held out again in 1981 but this time they started to film without him.
According to a 1982 article Gary Coleman was making $50,000 per each episode- or about $1.3 million- for the 1981-82 season, after his contract dispute. Todd Bridges was making about $15,000 per show. Conrad Bain was making about $25,000 per show.
Gary Coleman was paid $1,500 per episode the first season. It later went up to $20,000 , then $40,000, and as high as $70,000. He made almost $18 million from his TV and movies work during the period Diff'rent Strokes was on the air (1978-1986).
He made 7 million total from Strokes.
ThomasE 04-14-2008, 01:54 AM I knew it! Those tag scenes were filmed and then added to the eps that he was not in. Pav, what you wrote is info that I have seen before but I can't remember where.
It is a shame that he and Todd were truly being short changed. $1,600 an episode? No way.
The powers that be could have done a better job than that especially if one of your biggest stars is making the show a success.
Jude The Obscure 04-14-2008, 12:55 PM Sad that Todd wasn't paid more......that had to be a slap in the face.
gidgetgrape 04-14-2008, 01:01 PM A bodyguard?
