Who are they and why?

My pick is Fantasia Barrino because she just...hurts my ears. Let's take a look at all the other winners, shall we?
- Kelly Clarkson: Beautiful voice, beautiful tone, beautiful range... I suppose sometimes overdoes it with the runs, but very pleasant to listen to

- Ruben Studdard: Just a very solid, consistently good voice....never out of tune

- Carrie Underwood: Such range, beautiful tone, and confidence in her voice

- Taylor Hicks: .... -_________- ok skip him

- Jordin Sparks: Beautiful, angelic sounding voice

Going back, what does Fantasia have? A screechy, shouty, horribly annoying voice... but everyone loves it! Why? I will never know. It's not that she's completely untalented, because I do admire the emotion she puts into all her songs. It may be a slight bias I have because of how the judges and like all the rest of the world orgasms over her performance of "Summertime." While it was good, it is definitely not the best idol performance of all time.

Carrie Underwood is the most overrated out of all of them. She's an okay singer, but people act like she's the next Pasty Cline or something like that. A close second is that Sanjaya kid, he's ugly and can't sing.

Why and How Taylor Hicks won two years ago, I will never understand.

Agreed on Fantasia for sure. I'm still wondering how she won over the much more tolerable and lovely Diana DeGarmo in Season 3. Also agreed on Sanjaya as well. How he even made the Top 12 in Season 6 is beyond me. Just looking at him made me want to puke.

okay anyway...definitely Fantasia. i mean she isnt HORRIBLE but she wasnt the second coming of Jesus like the judges/producers made her out to be in Season 3. her voice is definitely love-or-hate (i personally dont really like it), and although she was one of the more consistent ones that year, she definitely had a few very bad performances that the judges didnt call her out on.

i think David Cook is really overrated too. i like him and his performances are consistently good (aside from this week), and i dont have a problem with people saying hes one of the best left because..well, he is. but i hate it when people say hes the most original contestant ever or say he's "breaking the boundries" of the show...how? most of his songs are other band's covers (which he admits to, im not knocking him for that), and Chris Daughtry did the same thing he did in Season 5...so i dont see how hes the most original contestant ever. and its not like rockers are a new concept on this show. imo, even though i dont care for him, Blake is the most original contestant ever...most of his performances were original arrangements.

Blake's original arrangements sucked, though. But I agree definitely when it comes to David C.

I always thought Constatine Maroulis was overrated. I never bought into his image AT ALL, and wasn't a huge fan. I became even less of a fan when he decided to be an actor and ruined "The Bold and the Beautiful" for a couple of months.

sanjaya and his hair. even tho people hated them, they talked about them too much. a little coverage is ok, but seriously enough is enough. thank goodness the talking has stopped.

A lot of people were watching out of curiosity when Sanjaya was there. Even though the ratings slipped a little, the show still did (and does) excellent. How much longer can Idol keep their numbers so high? LOL

Ha! FOX is also making A LOT from that deal. If the show is still doing decent and FOX wants to continue the show after season 10, I wouldn't be surprised if they bring in new judges and reinvent the whole show if Randy, Paula, and Simon decide they want to put Idol behind them.

I don't understand the appeal of David Archuleta at all. I find him very dull and even corny at times. He also looks kinda like my ex-boyfriend.

I give the show 2 more seasons before it falls from #1. Ratings for the show have been declining since like season 4 . . . I doubt it can go one pulling in 25 million an episode much longer. Even if it falls frrom #1, it'll still probably do 20 million or close to it until season 10.

If Paula Abdul would actually be stupid enough to quit the show, let her go. Idol is really what brought her career back. If she pulled out of Idol, you couldn't get much dumber than that.

I think him being "corny" and maybe even "pure" is part of the reason why he's developed such a big fanbase. I understand where your coming from though. He seems like he would LOVE to do an Osmonds night. :)

I used to like Paula a lot on the show, even though she got under my skin at times. Now it's as if she's always getting under my skin! LOL. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing if she walked and they found a replacement...

actually ratings peaked in Season 5 and went downhill last season, most likely because last season sucked-LOL.

but yeah...you do have to remember that ratings in general are falling so of course AI is going with it. to me it still seems like it's being talked about just as much now as it was in Season 5. but i think it is starting to grow old a little bit (though the "update" this year definitely helped) and will probably have worn out it's welcome by Season 10.

I have to disagree about a couple of things. I like Ruben, but he DID have his
off-nights! Sometimes he sounded really raspy, then the poor guy would
have to stand still for 5 minutes trying to catch his breath, while having the
deer-in-headlights look. Again, I have nothing against Ruben, most of the
time, he sings very well. And about Fantasia, well, WHEN she sings, she
sings very well. However, most of the time, she doesn't sing-she screams.
My fav performance by her was when she did "Summertime." And Fantasia
had tremendous stage presence, and could really connect with the audience,
while doing the "Bo-Bo!" In my opinion, that's why she won.

Osmonds night? That would be worse than Dolly Parton, Mariah carey, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Latin music, or any other country music week COMBINED!!!!

I don't understnad the appeal of Adam at all. He's really not my style. At least he's more interesting to watch than David Archuletta (ducks).

I also don't care for Lil or Megan. Alexis was a much better singer and Kendall should have made the final 13 over Megan.
