View Full Version : Coming to Spike TV and TBS in September 2008
Pavan 04-07-2008, 01:22 AM Spike TV has acquired Married with Children for air starting in September 2008. The deal is for 5 years and it is exclusive, which means current cable holder FX will lose the rights to the series this fall. Spike TV has said to have paid about $12 million to buy all 257 half-hours of the sitcom from Sony Pictures TV, which comes out to about less than $50,000 per episode.
Also in the deal, Spike TV will get the right to also air the episodes on Spike.com. It also picks up 40 six-minute minisodes for the Internet and mobile outlets.
The sitcom will air in the morning, afternoon and late night on Spike TV.
We will have more details soon, including a blog story and the official press release.

Pavan 04-07-2008, 11:31 AM Al Bundy Finally Finds His Ideal TV Home at Spike TV
Spike TV Acquires All 259 Episodes of 'Married ... With Children'
Deal Includes Digital and Mobile Rights
NEW YORK, April 7, 2008 -- Spike TV has acquired the rights to all 259 episodes of the hit FOX series, "Married ... With Children," which ran 11 seasons from 1987-1997. The five year deal begins September, 2008.
As part of the distribution deal with Sony Television, Spike TV will have broadband rights and can exhibit episodes each week on the network's website at http://www.spike.com . There are also 40 six-minute 'webisodes' Spike TV can run on broadband or on mobile outlets.
The network plans on stripping the series to run in mornings, afternoons, and late night.
"Al Bundy must be smiling somewhere right now knowing he will have a home on the network made for regular guys like him," said John Griffin, vice president of programming, Spike TV. "Married ... With Children" will fit in nicely with our strong lineup of such popular series for guys as "Spike's Most Amazing Videos" and "Disorderly Conduct," and "Whacked Out Sports."
Premiering on FOX in 1987, "Married ... With Children" is one of the longest running sitcoms in American history. The series put the FOX network on the map as it followed the lives of the Bundys -- a not so typical nuclear family from the suburbs of Chicago. Consisting of father Al (Ed O'Neill), a star quarterback in high school turned shoe salesman, his lazy housewife Peg (Katey Sagal), dim witted and gorgeous daughter Kelly (Christina Applegate), and always scheming and sexually frustrated son Bud (David Faustino), the Bundys provided hilarious antics over the course of eleven seasons as they lived their middle class lives in comical disarray. The series was nominated for seven Golden Globes(R) and seven Emmy Awards(R), including best actor and best actress nominations for O'Neill and Sagal.

Aaron, read the blog to find out when it came to FX.
TVFactFan 04-07-2008, 06:58 PM Guess it's too early to hear what time slot it will be in
Pavan 04-07-2008, 07:34 PM Yes, but as the press release says: The network plans on stripping the series to run in mornings, afternoons, and late night.
You can get a taste of where they will air it. Maybe 6 times a day from the looks of that.

I have no idea but I know it seems like forever that it has been on that channel.
So, to see that it will be on Spike TV means absolutely nothing to me. Seeing one show moved to another channel means another five years of seeing the same show on another channel. ohno: That's like seeing Fresh Prince going from N@N to the CW.

Well I'm excited, never got a chance to see it on FX because of the late night hours and it will be a treat to see my man AL on the spike-lol
Ireneparalegal 04-07-2008, 10:21 PM I have seen it on FX and a local channel here.

LOL! The Fresh Prince actually aired on my CW (then called WB) channel for almost a decade before it went to Nick at Nite. It's a shame, I know.
To be fair to Married...With Children though, FX hasn't treated the show well for a few years now. They barely have a specific day and time for it anymore.

I remember MWC airing on FX at 1:38am and 2:18am

floyd2006 04-08-2008, 06:16 AM How Long has Married With Children been on FX Schedule
I think it was around 99.
I'm so happy about this. Married With Children fits so well on Spiketv. Funny thing, a long time ago I emailed a couple of tv stations and one of them was spike asking them to show married with children, I wonder if im the reason they are showing mwc? :D I remember when Married With Children first came on fx, the promos for the show were amazing. I cant wait to see my favorite show spike.
Scoobiedoo30 04-08-2008, 01:11 PM I also cant wait Spike TV to show Married With Children FX only show's Married With Children 3 day's a week
Buffyboy323 04-09-2008, 08:39 AM I remember MWC airing on FX at 1:38am and 2:18am
There was a long time when it was on at 5:00pm and 5:30pm and 1:00am and 1:30am. In addition to those episodes, FX would sometimes air random episodes before or after a movie. Where have you been!?
floyd2006 04-09-2008, 08:57 AM Is there any chance that spike might air the longer episodes in the late hours(maybe around 1am)
Buffyboy323 04-09-2008, 09:24 AM Is there any chance that spike might air the longer episodes in the late hours(maybe around 1am)
The article says "The sitcom will air in the morning, afternoon and late night on Spike TV." 1am is late enough, I think. How late is late? LOL
One question: What do you mean "the longer episodes?"
floyd2006 04-09-2008, 01:00 PM Well for an example in "Its an bundyful life" I know theres a scene missing and I have yet to see the episode uncut. The main reason why they never showed it uncut was because of commericals but if they show it in the early mornings maybe they could show it unedited.
Big C 04-13-2008, 01:03 PM Speaking of FX...
I remember watching MWC reruns before FX in Wisconsin. They would show an episode on what was then UPN at 9:00 and the WB (Channel 18) at 11:00.
Then, FX came along.
I remember in January 2001, they had four episodes a night for the whole month.
Up until FX got Buffy, they would show at least 2, 3 or 4 episodes of MWC a day.
Pavan 06-24-2008, 03:50 PM Timeslots for Spike TV have been announced! Also, the show is coming to TBS this fall as well:

TVFactFan 06-24-2008, 04:05 PM 11pm to 1am on Spike would make better sense
jimpickens 06-26-2008, 04:08 PM If SPIKE will run Sin City uncut and commercial free then there should be no problem doing the same with MCW.
floyd2006 06-27-2008, 03:38 PM Wow mwc is coming to TBS? I didn't see that coming. I'm not sure how well mwc fits into tbs, but i'm all for it :)
