don't think this one has been talked about. She was one of the other 3 criminals profiled on the same special alert that featured Heather Tallchief. She and her son were set to move out of a homeless shelter in Dallas, TX and into an apartment in that city. But on the day they were set to move in, she bought a bus ticket to Georgia and was never seen again. 6 days later, her son was found dead in a closet in the apartment. This just struck me as a truly horrible crime, so I was wondering if anyone knows if she has been caught. thanks.

Thanks for the info. So glad to hear she was caught. Speaking of that special alert, I know that Heather Tallchief was caught and Floyd Thomas Travers was caught and is still in prison thankfully. Does anyone know if Joseph M.L. Gardner was captured?

Does anyone know if Joseph M.L. Gardner was captured?

Would this be the same Joseph Gardner who was wanted for the murder of Melissa "Missi" McLaughlin? If so, he was captured in 1994. He was later convicted and sentenced to death. He was scheduled to be executed in 2005, but was granted a reprieve.

Thats probably him although I don't remember the name of the victim. Him and several other accomplices (who were captured soon after the crime) were wanted for raping and shooting a woman several times killing her. Good to see he was captured but disappointed to see his executed was cancelled as he seems like a perfect candidate for the death penalty.

It is. Although he had accomplices in the crime, Joseph Garnder is said to have been the actual trigger man.

Because of the brutal nature of the crime, I agree that Gardner is a proper candidate for the death penalty. His execution may have been called off in 2005, but it hasn't been canceled entirely. For now, he remains in South Carolina's death house.

Thanks for the links. What a horrible excuse for a human being!! Killing a white woman was his New Year's Resolution, huh? Not to mention he tortured and raped her. I certainly hope his death sentence gets reinstated!!

I agree with you 100%. Of course, all of the crimes on UM are very horrible, but this is one of the ones that stick out for me. In fact, I was just thinking about this case. Even Robert Stack mentioned what a sad crime this was, which is usually something he doesn't do. It bothered me so much I had to research it and that's when I found out she had been caught, which was a huge relief.

I just put this in the forum search to get the answer as well. What a horrible crime. Claiming her son was rude and she wished she'd never had him? Well, lady, you could have given him up to CPS or something. There is absolutely no excuse for killing a 10-year-old boy. I also think she should have gotten the DP but hopefully the 40-year sentence will ensure that she never gets out to hurt anyone else. Just sick.

Is this the black woman who lived in a shelter with her son and killed him and stuffed him in a closet? Yeah, she's a sick woman. Death penalty would've been great. Anyone who kills a child should be executed in my opinion.

Yep, that's her. I still don't get why she felt she had to kill him. If she didn't want to be responsible for him or pay for him at all, she could have given up her parental rights. Abandonment of a child isn't cool, but that would have been better than what she did. This crime makes my blood boil.

You might want to spell "DP" out next time. It means something totally different in other circles. :)

I feel very naive every time something like this happens. I check urban dictionary and then discover a plethora of things I did not know. Whoops! :P Thanks for the heads up.
