Hello, Group

In the "Murdock X-Ray" episode, Rob is at home trying to keep Laura from turning on the TV so she won't see his disastrous interview with Ray Murdock. One of his distractions is to get her to dance. What was the music they danced to ? If you know the exact song, great, but I'm more interested in the kind of music it was. If I were to look for a CD with similar songs, what would I ask for ? I'm thinking it's definitely Latin, but I'm completely ignorant about types. Samba ? Rhumba ? And if anyone knows names of composers or musicians or band leaders, that would be nice !

Scott ....just popping out of a long lurkdom to address a nagging question...

Geat to "see" you, Scott!
Great question, too. You're right about the music, it is Latin in origin. Afro-Cuban, actually. But It's not the Rumba. The Rumba has a heavier African percussive influence, and the basic of the dance is a smoothe, side-to-side motion. The Samba is more rythmic and faster paced than the Rumba, and I don't think the sensors would have let Laura do that dance on 1960's telvision (at least not in it's true form)! What you were watching was the Cha Cha. Mid-tempo, syncopated, slightly sexy, and yes, very Latin!
I took the liberty of adding the link (below) from Amazon.com with wav. file samples so you can hear the music right now on your PC.

I hope this helps.

I'm no expert, but I have heard a similar style of music referred to as Bossa Nova.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses.

1. Thanks, treky, for the correction of the episode name. I was actually listening to the episode (on audio tapes I made in the 70's !!), so didn't have viewable titles.

2. Thanks, Steve, for the information ! Of course ! The Cha-Cha !! I appreciate the links, too. Very entertaining. I haven't gone through all the samples yet (I'll have to wait til tomorrow -- Monday), but when I do I wonder if I'll hear something almost identical to the Petrie Cha-Cha music. Maybe it was a popular Cha-Cha song of the sixties ??

3. Larry, I, too, was thinking of Bossa Nova, but didn't/don't know much about that style either, so I didn't mention it..

Thanks again !! :)

Scott
