BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 5, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Legendary actor,
civil rights leader and political activist Charlton Heston passed away
today, at the age of 84. He died at his home with Lydia, his wife of 64
years, at his side. Mr. Heston was loved by his two children, Fraser Clarke
Heston and Holly Heston Rochell, and his three grandchildren, Jack
Alexander Heston, Ridley Rochell and Charlie Rochell.

The Heston family issued the following statement:

"To his loving friends, colleagues and fans, we appreciate your
heartfelt prayers and support. Charlton Heston was seen by the world as
larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and
resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played. Indeed, he
committed himself to every role with passion, and pursued every cause with
unmatched enthusiasm and integrity.

We knew him as an adoring husband, a kind and devoted father, and a
gentle grandfather, with an infectious sense of humor. He served these far
greater roles with tremendous faith, courage and dignity. He loved deeply,
and he was deeply loved.

No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given
more to his family, to his profession, and to his country. In his own
words, "I have lived such a wonderful life! I've lived enough for two
people."

A private memorial service will be held. The family has requested that,
in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Motion Picture and Television
Fund:

Wow!! I knew he wasn't doing well, but I figured he'd had a few good years left in him. I didn't know he was that old.

I was just reading the other day that he was in the final stages of Alzheimer's, so sadly I figured he would pass away soon. Still very sad. :rip:

My first memory of Charlton Heston was when I saw Ben Hur when I was a kid, and of course The Ten Commandments. A truly great actor, and from what I could tell, a good guy.

I watched The Ten Commandments on Easter Sunday and was thinking about Charlton and some of the amazing movies he appeared in, including Ben Hur and The Planet of the Apes. Although I did not agree with some of his beliefs, it is still a sad loss for the entertainment industry...

What sad news. I loved him in Will Penny. He play so many historical people, he had the right look. He was nice enough to send me an autographed picture of himself years ago.

I was really saddened to hear of his passing. What makes it soooooo weird for me is that on Saturday morning, my boyfriend had asked me, "Is Charleton Heston alive still?" I mean, that question came out of nowhere. I told him, he was alive but suffering from Alzheimers. Imagine my surprise when I got home late Saturday and seen the late news on television and heard he had died. Not only did he die on my birthday but here me and my boyfriend had just talked abt Charlton Heston that day!!!!!! :faint: My jaw dropped. Is that a coincidence or what?

I love his movies. I just finish buying TEN COMMANDMENTS on DVD a month ago. Charlton made that movie so great. No other remake can ever compare. :rip: God Bless him.

"Soylent Green is people!"

I'll never forget that line as long as I live.'Soylent Green' was in fact Edward G. Robinson's final role, in 1973. He died a few days after the film finished shooting.
