Due to the popularity of online registration at the college at which I work, the register's office has to lay off three employees...that last three hired. I was the second to last one hired, so as of some time this May I will be out of work. Really wonderful.

Mike, I'm sorry to hear that. :( I hope you are able to find another job. Good luck.

Thanks, Jenny. I think I should be able to find another one. I have a really good work record. I'm thankful for that.

A good work history and resume always makes a savvy employer sit up and take notice. One thing that has worked for me when I was between jobs was temping. It keeps some $ coming in, gives the day structure, looks good to employers and is an excellent way to network. I bet you land on your feet!

I'm real sorry to hear this, Mike. I'm sure this has you nervous and apprehensive about your future. Rich makes a very good point about temping. It gives both you and your prospective employer time to determine if it's a good fit, for everyone. It gives you a chance to "kick the tires", so to speak.

I don't know if it's too soon for you to hear any kind of talk of a silver lining in every cloud, but I'll give it a shot anyway. Often times, bad things happen in our lives, and they turn our lives around. You know the adage, ~When one door closes, another door opens~ ;)

You may find the woman of your dreams at your next job. You may buy a lottery ticket at a nearby store that will change your life forever. You may save someone's life who's choking in the employee cafeteria. More realistically, you may love your next job and move right up the career ladder.

True story, short and sweet. About 25 years ago, my husband found himself unemployed. Down in the dumps, he answered an ad for a restaurant manager. Guess who just happened to be a bartender there? That would be me, and we're celebrating our 23rd wedding anniverary this September.

That's enough philosophical talk about fate for one night. I'm not making light of your job loss, just simply saying that good things often happen, as a result of misfortune. Good luck, Mike. :)

I am so sorry to hear about your job. It really does suck to get laid off. I know you'll find something else. Something even BETTER!

I'm sorry to hear about your job. I hope you find something soon. :)

It's really sad how many jobs are being lost to technology. Pretty soon, we won't be interacting with other humans at all. It's no wonder people are becoming more antisocial and self-centered.

Thanks everyone. :) I'm not feeling that bad because as I stated in my previous post, I have a really good work record and I don't think I will have that difficult a time finding a new job.

Janice, that was a beautiful story about you and your husband. Love seems to always come into our lives at the most unexpected moments. Actually, right now I am kind of seeing a girl named Amy who works at the same college as me. My last attempt at a realtionship with a girl turned out to be a total disaster for which I have to take some blame myself. However, looking back now, this girl was the wrong one for me for many different reasons and I think that Amy might be the right one. :D

Amy sounds like a great woman Mike. I hope it works out for the best. I am sad to hear abt the job loss. We all can relate. I believe in the adage that "things happen for a reason". I know you will find another job, it is just a matter of time.

Yeah that's sucks when that happens but just make sure you look for a another job now and then maybe you can be set by time May comes. Also don;t be like most people and treat unemployment checks like you are on a paid 6 month vacation. I'm sure you will come across something else. One good thing is you have a little bit of a headstart since you still have another month before your current job ends so you may be situated ok by the end of April

Thanks for the kind words and thoughts everyone. :) Some good news is that one of my supervisors told me that they will be keeping me after all. :) My hours will be cut from the almost forty that I work now to about 30 beginning in June, but I will still have my job. My supervisior told me that she appreciates the hard work I do and that she doesn't want to lose me. :)
