View Full Version : TV theme songs you like
Ireneparalegal 04-03-2008, 08:19 PM DALLAS
I LOVE LUCY
ROSEANNE - not the version though when they added the singing to it.
S.W.A.T. - one of the best tv themes ever, IMO.
STARSKY & HUTCH - there were two themes and I liked them both
THE JEFFERSONS - another theme that I consider one of the best
GOOD TIMES - catchy tune
MARTIN - made me laugh
PlayOn 04-03-2008, 09:30 PM oh, gosh. so many:
All in the Family (i love it when Edith sings. so funny)
The Facts of Life (very catchy. didn't care for the last one. it was too pop, imo and i hate pop music)
The Golden Girls
I Love Lucy
Gilligans Island (the later years when they added the Prof. and Mary Ann)
Mama's Family
Reba (for the obvious reason ;))

Just to name a few^^^
I love love love lots of TV theme songs, it'd be impossible to name all of my favorites. I'm a BIG music person, and any theme song that gets you in the mood for the show that's following it...it's perfect. Sitcoms, drama, game shows, soaps, variety shows, children's shows, talk shows...I have big favorites from every genre, pretty much.
BarneyFife 04-04-2008, 12:55 AM Two of my favorites are Good Times and The Jeffersons.
dawsongirl 04-04-2008, 01:09 AM Dragnet (2003)
I Dream of Jeannie
Route 66
Hawaii 5-0
I really only like instrumentals.
megamanj2004 04-04-2008, 02:16 AM I have very many to name, b/c I'm a huge sucker for TV Themes.
Sitcoms:
Get Smart - especially the one from the final season on CBS.
Facts of Life, The - I disagree w/ the poster that ahted the rock version. Between FoL, Silver Spoons, and Diff'rent Strokes, FoL had the better-sounding updated theme.
Perfect Strangers
Mr. Belvedere - I get a kick out of drop-kicking my jacket...LOL!
Good Times - that gospel vibe of the theme says it all!
Sledge Hammer! - b/c of the goofy techno theme.
Taxi - Driving in the taxi cab playing this theme song on the bridge could give one the goosebumps.
Barney Miller - Someone said that whenever they heard this theme song they'd jump up and down on the couch! (LOL) I would, too!
Night Court - the jazzy feel combined w/ the sax summed up '80s quite well!
Cosby Show, The - mainly the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th season themes the best!
Dramas:
Hawaii Five-O - b/c the theme and the scenes went hand-in-hand.
Hill Street Blues - that calm piano melody makes you forget that you're about to watch a Police Show
S.W.A.T. - the theme song made you jump out of the SWAT trucks, hum to the theme, and play S.W.A.T.
Rockford Files, The - The answering machine before this awesome theme song played was top-notch!
A-Team, The - Made you wanna ride in the back of the van and pepper everyone w/ bullets...LOL!
Knight Rider - The techno theme made you wanna drive K.I.T.T. through the streets.
Quantum Leap - The soft-sounding theme made you want to go back in time.
"CHiPs" - 1st season theme was good, but when the one used from 2nd season and beyond came along, you had quite a theme song to show the gloves, the motorcycle and the shades while riding on California's Highways.

The theme does bring back some good memories, but I only like the first two seasons theme with Heavy D, I hated the last season theme, but then again, I hated the last season all together.

megamanj2004 05-04-2008, 01:42 AM Others:
St. Elsewhere - b/c I liked how the theme song helps transition from one cast member to the next.
In Living Color - 1st version only! I hated the 2nd version and the 3rd version was a crappy re-hash of the 1st version theme.
Duck Tales - Loved how this cartoon theme song told the story of what goes on in Duckberg.
Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers - Another great story-telling cartoon theme like Duck Tales!
Mannix - Brilliant composition by the great Lalo Schifrin!
Mission: Impossible - Lalo's Schifrin's grand master piece of all of his TV theme songs! When someone pretended to do Spy things, this theme always was at the ready!
Chico and the Man - one of the few most successful Latin-flavored TV themes of all-time by the great Jose Feliciano. If only Freddie Prinze Sr. took a cue from some of this show's lyrics.
The Green Hornet "Flight of the Bumblebee" - This theme was just as good as the 1966 "Batman" TV Theme song. It made you wanna slice some ninjas. This show was also responsible for being the 1st American TV exposure for the late, great future martial artist Bruce Lee.
Batman (1966-68 TV series and the 1992-95 Cartoon Series) Both of these versions of the Batman TV Theme Song were unique in their own ways. The 1966 Batman while campy, at least the theme song was done w/ a simple one-word in the title "BATMAN!" accompanying the theme tune in a great way. The 1992 series also had great musical composition by the great Danny Elfman who also did the theme song to "Sledge Hammer!" (1986-88) and the show that still runs today on FOX in "The Simpsons."

The theme song from the High Chaparral is one of my favorites, along with the theme song from the Mary Tyler Moore Show & Laverne & Shirley.

megamanj2004 06-17-2008, 12:13 PM I'm not big fan of Soap Operas, but when I saw the 1984-91 version of the "One Life to Life" theme credits, I got addicted to that theme song!
And when I 1st heard it, I thought it sounded a LOT like "St. Elsehwere's" theme tune.

Ireneparalegal 06-25-2008, 11:03 AM The Young and The Restless -Nadia's Theme...anyone else remember when that came out as a single and they called it NADIA'S THEME for Olympic gymnast, Nadia Comaneci?
phoebe7165 06-25-2008, 11:28 AM The Young and The Restless -Nadia's Theme...anyone else remember when that came out as a single and they called it NADIA'S THEME for Olympic gymnast, Nadia Comaneci?
I do, and I also had it as piano music when I was younger because the first part was so easy to play!!
That's weird though, I was on youtube the other day and started looking at Olympic performances and I was watching alot of Nadia's routines, especially her perfect 10's!!
Some of my favorite themes -
Frasier
Wishbone(I actually enjoy this kids show and can't help singing "What the story, Wishbone")
Alice
Dallas
Green Acres(never really liked the show but I love the theme!)
SWAT(in addition to loving this theme, I also LOVED Mark Shera!!)
I Love Lucy(I especially liked it when Ricky would sing it - I love Lucy and she loves me)
The Golden Girls(but Andrew Gold's version is so much better)
The 3 Stooges
Family Guy
the old All My Children theme, back before they started showing pictures of the cast, they used to have a simple scene where there was a book, somebody opened it, and then shut it and that was it.
There's a new show I started watching by accident called Fear Itself. The theme of that show is sung by Serj Tankian who is the lead singer for System of a Down and I just love his voice.
PunkyP0WER 06-25-2008, 03:55 PM 1. mary tyler moore show
2. nurses (seasons 1-2)
3. the commish
4. night court
5. who's the boss?
6. cosby show (dancing in front of the apollo sign)
7. the jeffersons
8. punky brewster
I'm not big fan of Soap Operas, but when I saw the 1984-91 version of the "One Life to Life" theme credits, I got addicted to that theme song!
And when I 1st heard it, I thought it sounded a LOT like "St. Elsehwere's" theme tune.
That's one of my favorites too. YouTube has many different versions of it online, so it's easy to find if you're looking for it!
Also, the two songs were written by the same man, Dave Grusin. That's why they sound similar.
Schmoopie 07-13-2008, 07:12 AM For my list, I'm going to cyber-sing... :singer:
Love Boat ("Love... exciting and new...")
The Facts of Life ("Take the good, you take the bad you take them both....")
Growing Pains ("Show me that smile again..")
Full House ("Whatever happened to predict-a-bility?")
Seinfeld (instrumental... but very cool with the horns in the background!)
Three's Company ("Come and knock on our door")
All in the Family ("Those were the DAYYYYYYSSS!")
Patty Duke ("Meet Cathy who's lived most everywhere, from Zanzibar....")
Sorry... I got very carried away there, didn't I? :music: :music: :music:

Thank you for that info. ;)
Yes, there was. I listened/watched on Youtube the themes for S&H when I made this thread, just to see which one I liked better. Hard to do if you ask me. If I have to give the edge to one over the other, it would be the first theme. It was a bit more edgier.
Lodee 07-18-2008, 08:12 PM Just off the top of my head I'd say Entourage, Golden Girls and Greatest American Hero. Probably tons of others too.
Nighthawk76 07-20-2008, 02:09 AM The Facts of Life (very catchy. didn't care for the last one. it was too pop, imo and i hate pop music)
I love the theme song from the last three years. It's a nice catchy pop song. :)
megamanj2004 07-20-2008, 06:30 PM I love the theme song from the last three years. It's a nice catchy pop song. :)
And I also like it b/c between FoL, Silver Spoons, and Diff'rent Strokes, FoL had the better-sounding updated theme tune in 1985.
Wreckless 07-24-2008, 05:00 AM 1. Laverne and Shirley TS- Just catchy and it fits the type of people the two girls were. I like how it was sung by a girl too, it wouldn't fit, at least not as much as if a guy sang their theme song.
2. Happy Days- just all around great
3. The Wonder Years- Joe Cocker's version > The Beatles. Joe Cocker performed excellent on this and it also fits the show. I like the home video clips in the beginning too.
4. Married With Children- i like the song and Al's face, it never changes, even for a theme song of the show lol.
5. Taxi- relaxing theme song that made you calm down a little, enough to lay in bed and watch the show and enjoy it.
6. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air- all around great
7. I can't remember the title of this show, ahhh brain fart! But it's a drama/scary type show that has creepy music. It was on during the '90s and I believe it even spawned a movie, but i'm not 100% sure. Just the music was cool, although it was a bit creepy.
Rosslover 07-24-2008, 03:36 PM of course the best themes tell a story like the Beverly Hillibillies or Gilligans Island or more recently Fresh Prince or Nanny...i prefer the firsr version of the Partridge Family theme to come on get happy.
other themes i like with no words are Dallas and MASH ...
themes that become hits ...of course my favorite is the Rembrandts I'll BE There for You
and one song makes me sad right now .... Thank You for Bein a FRiend...we'll miss you Estelle.
