How will the change over effect TV? I would like to hear what people have to say about this. On February 17th, 2009, all analogue broadcasts will cease to exist. I have also heard from several sources that the channels will be moving all around again. Your local broadcast channels (2-13) will be moving to different channel numbers. ONCE AGAIN, PLEASE TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS/IDEAS ON THIS ISSUE. THANK YOU. :)

I heard that some local channels will most likely move back to their original channel numbers. Like for instance, here locally, WXIA/ch. 11 in the Atlanta area I believe is on channel 10 digitally, but the switch will have them move back to channel 11. I'm pretty positive that they'll do that, especially since they've called themselves "11 Alive" for over 30 years.

I haven't heard that about the channel numbers; but I've heard that unless you have sattelite or cable TV (in other words, if you still have an antenna on your TV) you'll have to get a special convertor box or buy a new TV-the newer ones are all set for the switch to digital. (or get cable or sattelite TV)

I heard on the news though; that some dealers are telling people that they WILL need a new TV. (which is, like I said, wrong)

What I've heard is that the regular channels that normally used to be on channels 2-13 will no longer be available on analog sets but the cable networks like TBS and MTV will still work. I'm curious as to what will happen to the UHF channels, that is, the ones that you can get with an antenna. I can get all of the Buffalo stations on cable and UHF except WNGS which is Buffalo's RTN station. (That figures! ) On cable, it's not offered by my cable company. On UHF, it's located at channel 67, where the signal is so bad that it's often non-existent. I've read that once the switch to digital is made, it will switch to 46, which would be a better location, depending on whether the other channels will switch numbers or not.

In Canada, the big change to digital will not happen until 2011. No exact date has been mentioned yet.

My main concern is: how will this impact on our VHS and DVD collections? Will there be any effect?

I do know that low power TV stations will not be affected by the switch.
