NEW YORK -- April 2, 2008 -- NBC today unveiled its new Fall lineup for the 2008-09 television season, introducing a schedule earlier than ever that combines some of the most acclaimed and popular returning series on television with four new programs that will join the schedule in the opening weeks of the season, including "Kath & Kim," "Knight Rider," "My Own Worst Enemy" and "Crusoe."

Among the critically hailed series returning to the NBC schedule next season will be "ER," the most-nominated series in Emmy Award history, returning for its 15th and final season (see separate release) on NBC's Thursday night lineup, and the acclaimed "Friday Night Lights," slated to re-join the Friday schedule in February as part of a unique broadcast partnership between NBC and DIRECTV (see separate release).

Additionally, the most highly anticipated comedy of the upcoming season, "The Office" spinoff, from Executive Producer Greg Daniels, will get the highly coveted premiere timeslot post Super Bowl XLIII following a special original telecast of "The Office" (see separate release).

In the first of a series of presentations to key advertisers today at 30 Rockefeller Center in New York City, NBC also unveiled Winter and Summer schedules for the 2008-09 broadcast year, allowing the advertisers to plan their media strategies for the upcoming year based on a 52-week schedule. Presentations will continue in New York this week and continue in Chicago and Los Angeles through the coming weeks.

The result is that NBC will deliver almost twice as much original entertainment in 2008-09 than it did 10 years ago. There will be year-round original programming on five nights a week at 10-11 p.m. (ET). In addition, NBC has allowed for a better scheduling flow with family shows at 8 p.m., blockbusters at 9 and dramas or mature-themed programs at 10 p.m.

In response to an evolving media marketplace and the changing needs of its advertisers, NBC Universal has created a more innovative, client-centric approach to its traditional Upfront presentation. It will include the announcement of a year-round programming schedule in April; a series of one-on-one client meetings in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago; and a spotlight event on May 12 that will showcase the full scale of the NBCU offerings in a unique, multi-media, interactive environment that will allow advertisers to experience the broad spectrum of marketing opportunities available within the company. The new Upfront process allows NBCU to continue its "customer-first" approach, while working to create new advertising models, define more effective metrics and provide a better return on its clients' investments.

"NBC has established itself as the place to go for the hottest, highest quality programs on television, and now we're ready to take it to the next level," said Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. "With many of the very biggest events of the 2008-09 television season on the NBC schedule, like the Beijing Olympic Games, Super Bowl Forty Three, the Golden Globes and a full season of 'Sunday Night Football,' all the elements are in place to make this an unforgettable year for NBC, its affiliates, its advertisers and its viewers."

"Normally the broadcast networks unveil their fall lineups in mid-May, but we've got so many terrific plans already in place, there was no reason to wait," said Marc Graboff, Co-Chairman NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. "The business is changing rapidly and our clients expect us to stay a step ahead of that change, so we're giving them the chance now to partner with us, start integrating with our shows from the very beginning and map out their strategies a full year into the future. It's an innovative way to introduce an innovative schedule."

The roll-out of NBC's 52-week lineup begins in the Fall, as the debuting drama series "My Own Worst Enemy," starring Christian Slater, joins "Chuck" and "Heroes" on NBC's Monday lineup; "Kath & Kim," a new comedy starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair, based on the hit Australian series, teams with "The Biggest Loser: Families" on Tuesdays; and on Wednesdays, "Knight Rider" goes to series, building on the success of last February's "Knight Rider" movie, the highest-rated movie telecast on any network in three years in adults 18-49. The mid-season dramedy "Lipstick Jungle" will return in the Fall, also on Wednesdays. Drama series "Crusoe," the hit game show "Deal or No Deal" and "Life" are scheduled to join NBC's Fall Friday lineup. In addition, NBC will introduce "SNL Thursday Night Live," which will share time on Thursdays with "The Office" at 9:30-10 p.m. (ET).

Through the winter months, NBC plans to add to its Sunday lineup "Kings," (starring Golden Globe winner Ian McShane) the ambitious new drama from the producer of "Heroes," along with the returning drama "Medium" and the exciting fantasy series "Merlin." On Mondays, NBC adds "The Philanthropist," a drama concerning a renegade billionaire who uses his wealth to help people. Tuesdays introduces a brand new cycle of "The Biggest Loser: Couples." "Law & Order" returns to Wednesdays for the series unparalleled 19th season. On Thursdays, comedy reigns with the addition of a new series spinning off the NBC hit "The Office." "The Celebrity Apprentice" returns in its popular new format on Thursdays. Sundays will be highlighted by special events, including the "66th Annual Golden Globe Awards," the four-hour miniseries "The Last Templar" (starring Oscar winner Mira Sorvino) and "XIII" (starring Val Kilmer and Stephen Dorff).

Key launches and series events will be timed to make maximum promotional use of the big events coming up on the NBC primetime schedule, including the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in August, "NBC Sunday Night Football" throughout the fall, the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" in November, NFL Wild-Card playoff games and the "66th Annual Golden Globe Awards" in January as well as the Super Bowl XLIII in February 2009.

In Summer 2009, NBC is slated to introduce "The Listener," a new Thursday drama, as well as two new reality series from executive producer Thom Beers ("Ice Road Truckers") -- "America's Toughest Jobs," an action-reality series on Mondays and "Shark Taggers," an action-adventure reality series on Wednesdays. "Chopping Block" will premiere on Fridays to complement a strong slate of original summer programming. Returning shows that Summer will include "American Gladiators," "America's Got Talent," "Last Comic Standing," "Monk" and "Nashville Star."

Sophomore dramas "Chuck," "Life," and "Lipstick Jungle" will benefit from an aggressive re-launch in the Fall, and the hit "Heroes" will come back with a bang owing to a major event in the Fall.

Joining the cast of "Life" is Donal Logue ("Grounded for Life") as Captain Brian Tidwell, Crews' (Damian Lewis) and Reese's (Sarah Shahi) new boss. Tidwell is a seen-it-all New York cop whose weaknesses include the track and the ladies. He isn't going to fit in Los Angeles, and he could care less.

Specific dates for most season and series premieres and other schedule changes will be announced at a later date. In addition, NBC Digital Entertainment today announced its full slate of content for the Summer and Fall seasons (see separate release).

2008-09 NEW SERIES DESCRIPTIONS:

NEW DRAMAS

MY OWN WORST ENEMY - Henry Spivey (Christian Slater, "Bobby") is a middle-class efficiency expert living a humdrum life in the suburbs with a wife, two kids, a dog, and a minivan. Edward Albright is an operative who speaks 13 languages, runs a four-minute mile, and is trained to kill with his teeth. Henry and Edward are polar opposites who share only one thing in common -- the same body. When the carefully constructed wall between them breaks down, Henry and Edward are thrust into unfamiliar territory where each man is dangerously out of his element. "My Own Worst Enemy" explores the duality of a man who is literally pitted against himself. And it raises the question: who can you trust when you can't trust yourself? The series is produced by Universal Media Studios. Jason Smilovic ("Kidnapped") is the executive producer; David Semel (director of the "American Dreams," "Heroes" and "Life" pilots) is the director and executive producer.

KNIGHT RIDER -On the heels of NBC's hit movie, the iconic 1980s television classic comes roaring back to life as an updated drama series showcasing the new customized KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) Ford Mustang. As the sequel resumes, KITT is absolutely the coolest car ever created: its supercomputer capable of hacking almost any system; its weapons systems efficient; and its body -- thanks to its creator's work and nanotechnology -- is capable of actually shifting shape and color. It is the ultimate car -- and someone will be willing to do anything to obtain it. "Knight Rider" stars Justin Bruening ("Cold Case"), Deanna Russo ("NCIS"), Sydney Tamiia Poitier ("Veronica Mars") and Bruce Davison ("Breach"). David Bartis ("Heist," "The O.C."), Doug Liman ("Mr. and Mrs. Smith," "The Bourne Identity") and Gary Scott Thompson ("Las Vegas," "The Fast and The Furious") are executive producers and David Andron serves as supervising producer and writer. Based on characters created by Glen Larson, "Knight Rider" is from Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Productions.

CRUSOE - Based on the legendary novel by Daniel Defoe, this is the tale of Robinson Crusoe. A young man leaves his true love to embark on an adventure -- only to end up shipwrecked on a remote tropical island for 28 years, completely detached from the life he once knew. His desire to return to his wife and his strong and unlikely friendship with Friday are the only things that keep him sane. While stranded, Crusoe encounters enemies and braves the elements. Equal parts "MacGyver," "Castaway" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," this series is an inspirational tale of survival rife with action and comedy. Power Entertainment produces "Crusoe."

KINGS -- "Kings" is an inspiring exploration of the timeless David vs. Goliath struggle. The show is set in a modern metropolis under siege where the fighting has gone on for too long and cost far too many lives. When David Shepherd (Christopher Egan, "Resident Evil: Extinction"), a brave young soldier, rescues the king's (Golden Globe winner Ian McShane, "Deadwood") son from enemy territory, he sets events in motion that will finally bring peace. Suddenly, David is thrust into the limelight, earning the affections of women -- including the king's daughter. When he's promoted to captain, he becomes the reluctant poster boy for hope. But for David, the line between his allies and enemies will blur as the power players in the kingdom go to great lengths to see him fall. From the director (Francis Lawrence) of the blockbuster movie "I Am Legend" comes the ultimate story of David vs. Goliath, and there's no telling who will win. Sebastian Stan ("Gossip Girl") also stars. "Kings" is a production of Universal Media Studios; Michael Green (NBC's "Heroes") is the executive producer. Francis Lawrence ("I Am Legend") is the director and executive producer and Erwin Stoff ("I Am Legend") also is executive producer.

MERLIN - "Merlin" brings to life a new legend for a modern audience. "Merlin" is an exciting, hour-long fantasy series set in the mythic city of Camelot -- but inspired by 21st Century storytelling. Before Merlin (Colin Morgan, "Doctor Who") and Arthur (Bradley James, "Lewis") became legends, they were ambitious young men looking for adventure, hoping to live up to their family's expectations, discovering love and finding their own true destiny, making mistakes along the way. The innovative, action-packed drama has cross-generational appeal and paints a picture of Merlin and Arthur's early life that audiences have never witnessed before. Anthony Head ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Richard Wilson ("A Passage to India"), Angel Coulby ("Magicians") and Katie McGrath ("The Tudors") also star. A FremantleMedia Enterprises distribution of a Shine production for BBC.

THE PHILANTHROPIST -- This one-hour drama is about a rebel with a cause. Teddy Rist loves women, money and power. After the tragic death of his only child, Teddy has an awakening and becomes the world's first vigilante philanthropist -- a renegade billionaire who uses his wealth, connections and power to help people in need. He'll do anything to achieve his goals -- bargain with the self-righteous, trade with the nefarious and even tell the truth. Instead of spending $25,000 a plate at a fundraiser, he's dodging bullets in third-world countries to hand-deliver vaccine. It's a global adventure that will take viewers to the ends of the Earth and will inspire them as well. "The Philanthropist" is produced by Universal Media Studios, Original Media and the Levinson/Fontana Company. Tom Fontana ("Homicide: Life on the Street"), Barry Levinson ("Homicide: Life on the Street") and Charlie Corwin ("L.A. Ink") are the executive producers; Jim Juvonen is a co-executive producer.

THE LISTENER -- In this one-hour drama, Toby Logan (Craig Olejnik, "The Runaway") is a 24-year-old paramedic living with a secret: he can read people's minds. This telepathic procedural takes viewers into the heart of a tortured hero who struggles to solve crimes with his unique gift. Week-to-week, "The Listener" balances high-stakes drama with irreverent humor and sends Toby on an intellectual and emotional adventure. Ennis Esmer ("The Path to 9/11") also stars. "The Listener" is a production of Program Partners and Shaftesbury Films. The executive producers are Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, Michael Amo, Russ Cochrane, Glen Davis and Bill Laurin.

NEW COMEDIES

THE OFFICE SPINOFF - From Greg Daniels, the executive producer of the Emmy Award-winning American version of NBC's "The Office," comes the most highly anticipated comedy of the season in "The Office" spinoff. Audiences will follow another comic journey, complete with new faces and new locations, but with the same unique sense of humor and brand of quality from Daniels and his creative team. It's the next chapter of what viewers have come to know and love about "The Office."

KATH & KIM -- They're the most dysfunctional duo in suburbia. Kath Day (Molly Shannon, NBC's "Saturday Night Live") is the mom, a foxy, 40-something divorcée who finally has time for herself and her valiant search for love. Kim Day (Selma Blair, "Hellboy," "Hellboy II") is the daughter, a self-absorbed princess recently separated from her husband who finds consolation in stuffing her face. When Kim decides to move back home, Kath reluctantly agrees -- but to Kim's chagrin, Kath is not about to cater to her every whim as she has in the past. Based on the most successful comedy in Australia of the same name, Kath and Kim are two brassy women who prefer the finer things in life like acrylic nails, big hair and faux diamond chips. The series is produced by Universal Media Studios and Reveille. The executive producer/writer is Michelle Nader ("The King of Queens") and the executive producer/director is Paul Feig ("Freaks and Geeks," "The Office"). Gina Riley, Jane Turner and Rick McKenna also are executive producers.

SNL THURSDAY NIGHT LIVE - Dubbed "TV's funniest and most influential political player" by Entertainment Weekly, "SNL" expands its "Weekend Update" coverage to Thursdays in primetime for three live half-hour shows beginning October 16. With all of the excitement and attention around "Saturday Night Live" during the presidential primaries, the anticipation for the show's take on this Fall's election will be at a fever pitch, "SNL Thursday Night Live" will keep the momentum -- and the laughs -- going. The program is a production of Broadway Video in association with SNL Studios. Lorne Michaels is the executive producer.

NEW ALTERNATIVE

CHOPPING BLOCK -- It's time to sharpen your knives! It's not just about the meal, it's about the business of food. From the producers of "Hell's Kitchen," original rock-star chef Marco Pierre White comes to America to host the ultimate food fight on NBC -- a new reality competition set in the high-drama, high-stakes world of New York City restaurants. The cooks are given a grilling over the course of the series. The teams, which are made up of couples, will be tested in challenges that vary from having less than a week to design and revamp a restaurant space to planning a menu and creating a signature dish. The winning couple will get a chance to have their dreams come true -- opening their very own restaurant in Manhattan. The series is produced by Granada America.

AMERICA'S TOUGHEST JOBS - From creator/executive producer Thom Beers ("Deadliest Catch," "Ice Road Truckers") and executive producers Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun, "America's Toughest Jobs" is a new extreme competition series that will test 12 people who venture out of their safe, comfortable careers and are injected into some of the most challenging, dangerous and demanding jobs on earth. From logging high in the Oregon Forest to oil drilling on the Texas range, or from driving icy roads to extreme fishing -- each job requires guts and stamina, and they'll have to live up to the same standards as the pros. In the end, their new boss and co-workers will determine success or failure, and those who don't make the grade get sent home. Upping the ante, the annual salary of each job will be thrown into the pot until the finale, where one rookie will take home the well-earned cash. "America's Toughest Jobs" is created by executive producer Beers and is produced by Original Productions and BermanBraun.

SHARK TAGGERS -- From creator/executive producer Thom Beers ("Deadliest Catch," "Ice Road Truckers") and executive producers Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun, "Shark Taggers" is a one-hour reality series that follows daring marine biologists as they track down the ocean's top predators and hand-tag them with cutting-edge satellite transmitters or investigate bull sharks' sudden attacks on surfers. The series is produced by Original Productions and BermanBraun.

MOST OUTRAGEOUS MOMENTS -- This half-hour show proves that anything can happen when the cameras keep rolling. Audiences can enjoy hilarious outtakes from some of NBC's most popular shows, as well as outrageous moments from home videos, newscasts, game shows and commercials from around the globe. "Most Outrageous Moments" is produced by Universal Media Studios and Scott Satin Productions. Scott Satin ("Who Wants to Be a Superhero?") serves as executive producer.

NEW EVENTS/MINISERIES/MOVIES

THE LAST TEMPLAR -- In this four-hour miniseries, Oscar winner Mira Sorvino ("Mighty Aphrodite") stars in an epic action-adventure tale about the greatest mystery of our time. At the New york Metropolitan Museum, four horsemen dressed as 12th century knights storm the gala opening of an exhibition of Vatican treasures and steal an arcane medieval decoder. For archaeologist Tess Chaykin (Sorvino) and FBI agent Sean Daly (Scott Foley, "The Unit"), this is just the start of a suspenseful game of cat and mouse as they race across three continents in search of the enemy -- and the lost secret of the Knights Templar. The miniseries is produced by MUSE Entertainment Enterprises. Victor Garber ("Alias") and Omar Sharif ("Doctor Zhivago") also star. Emmy Award-winning television impresario Robert Halmi Sr. ("Tin Man," "Gulliver's Travels"), Robert Halmi, Jr. ("The Poseidon Adventure," "The Christmas Card"), and Michael Prupas ("Human Trafficking") will executive-produce the miniseries.

XIII - "XIII" is a high-stakes cat-and-mouse thriller starring Val Kilmer ("The Doors") and Stephen Dorff ("World Trade Center"). This adrenaline-charged miniseries begins dramatically as the first female U.S. President is shot dead by a sniper during her Veteran's Day speech. Three months later, a wounded man is found tattered in a forest with no memory of his identity. The only clue is a tattoo on his neck, "XIII." Could his lightning-fast reflexes and killer instincts betray him as the presidential assassin that the U.S. is desperately searching for? Submerged in a far-reaching conspiracy, which threatens to overthrow the entire government, XIII's identity becomes the key to unraveling a complex and dangerous secret that will shock and excite. From the first bullet, this gripping action-thriller will leave audiences gasping for more. "XIII" is produced by Prodigy Pictures and Cipango.

NBC PICKS UP CLASSIC, EMMY AWARD-WINNING 'ER' FOR 15TH AND FINAL SEASON

NEW YORK - April 2, 2008 -- NBC announced that it will pick up the classic and Emmy Award-winning medical drama "ER" (Thursdays, 10-11 p.m. ET) for a 15th and final season. The announcement was made today by Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios.

"'ER' is one of the greatest shows of all time and we can't wait to deliver to the audience the fantastic stories the series is known for," said Silverman. "We will introduce new characters to the great ensemble."

Currently in its 14th season, "ER" has averaged a 3.8 rating, 10 share in adults 18-49 and 9.5 million viewers, keeping NBC in a virtual tie for the Thursday 10 p.m. lead in 18-49 despite big lead-in advantages for the time period's ABC and CBS competition from "Grey's Anatomy" and "CSI" respectively. "ER" is the #3 series on the NBC primetime schedule this season among women 18-49 and the network's #2 series among women 25-54.

Why are they announcing this so early? This is way too early to announce a lineup for the fall, when this is season is still far from over.

I really didn't see any new shows that looked outstanding to me. Some don't look that bad. I will admit, they lost quite a bit of reality. They went from almost an entire lineup of reality shows to a good mix of reality, drama, and sitcom. I'm glad to see ER and Law and Order is coming back - I'll still watch that occasionally. I'm surprised to see Lipstick Jungle and Life are coming back, but you never know, they might do well in the fall. I'm also glad to see Celebrity Apprentice back, but why can't they just do a normal season instead of celebrity? They shouldn't have moved it to 10pm, though, in my opinion. They tried airing it at 10pm twice before, and that's when ratings started to fall.

Not to much of NBC's lineup interests me. I'm glad that Chuck is back though. I'm not even getting excited about the next season until I see if their's going to be an actors strike. I took most of this season off.

Meh. This doesn't feel right announcing the first week in April. Heck, a lot of shows aren't even back from the writers strike yet.

I don't really like this schedule, it's very odd. There's a couple of shows that I'll watch but overall, not good.

Of course, knowing NBC, they'll change it 50 times before September anyway. :p

Law & Order: CI is a USA Network show. All NBC did this year was air repeats from USA Network...and as of now, no plans to air those repeats next season.

Law & Order: CI's new season begins in June I believe on USA.

Dang, I was foolishly hoping that Chuck would get the highly coveted post-superbowl slot. Next year, The Office will be in its, what, 4th season? If more people wanted to watch it, they would've by now!

**** NBC. They want "Friday Night Lights" to die. The last time they put one of their shows on that DirectTV crap, what happened? Oh yeah, "Passions" taped its last episode last week and now it's gone forever.

FNL should have been moved to USA. End of story.

And once again, **** NBC.

I expect them to change a few things once the other networks start announcing their schedules. I don't even know why they bother announcing a winter schedule. Fox has done this for some years now and they never keep to it because you never know how the ratings are going to do in the fall anyway.

NEW DRAMA SERIES PREMIERES INCLUDE 'KNIGHT RIDER' (SEPTEMBER 24), 'MY OWN WORST ENEMY' (SEPTEMBER 29) AND 'CRUSOE' (OCTOBER 17)

BURBANK -- May 23, 2008 -- NBC unveils the Fall 2008 series premiere dates for new programs and returning favorites including a three hour launch of the hit drama "Heroes" on Monday, September 22, the Thursday night debut of the new comedy "Kath & Kim" (9:30-10 p.m. ET) on October 9. "America's Toughest Jobs," the new extreme competition series, will debut with a two-hour premiere this Fall on September 12 (8-10 p.m. ET). In addition, the new drama series premieres include "Knight Rider" on September 24 (8-9 p.m. ET), "My Own Worst Enemy" on September 29 (10-11 p.m. ET) and "Crusoe" on October 17 (8-10 p.m. ET).

The announcements were made by Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios.

On April 2, NBC previously announced Fall, Winter and Summer nightly schedules for the 2008-09 broadcast year, allowing the advertisers to plan their media strategies for the 52-week schedule.

The eagerly anticipated return of "Heroes" launches with three hours in primetime on Monday, September 22 (8-9 p.m. ET) with an hour-long compilation show that will lead into a spectacular all new, two-hour premiere (9-11 p.m. ET). Second-year drama "Chuck," starring Zachary Levi as an unlikely security risk, returns on Monday, September 29 (8-9 p.m. ET) preceding the series premiere of the new drama "My Own Worst Enemy" (10-11 p.m. ET), starring Christian Slater as a seemingly simple man with a radically split personality.

The new comedy "Kath & Kim," starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair, joins the comedy block on Thursdays, beginning October 9 (9:30-10 p.m. ET). The series is based on the most successful comedy in Australia of the same name. An expanded two-hour edition of "The Biggest Loser: Families" (8-10 p.m. ET) will air on Tuesdays, after "America's Got Talent" concludes its run.

Also new to the Fall schedule is "America's Toughest Jobs" (previously announced for Summer 2009), a new extreme competition series from creator/executive producer Thom Beers ("Ice Road Truckers") and executive producers Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun. The series will debut with a two-hour episode on Friday, September 12 (8-10 p.m. ET) and return the next week at 8-9 p.m. (ET) for five weeks before resuming from 9-10 p.m. (ET) beginning October 24.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (10-11 p.m. ET) will round out the night with its 10th season premiere beginning September 23.

The new drama "Knight Rider" (8-9 p.m. ET) will kick off Wednesdays starting September 24 followed by the dramedy "Lipstick Jungle," starring Brooke Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price, which returns for its second season on the same night (10-11 p.m. ET). NBC's hit game show "Deal or No Deal" also returns with fresh episodes on Wednesdays after "America's Got Talent" concludes.

Thursday night comedy favorites return with a one-hour premiere of the fourth season of "My Name Is Earl" on September 25 (8-9 p.m. ET) followed by the one-hour season premiere of the Emmy Award-winning "The Office" (9-10 p.m. ET). "ER" begins its 15th and final season on Thursday, September 25 (10-11 p.m. ET). The new comedy "Kath & Kim," starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair premieres Thursday, October 9 (9:30-10 p.m. ET) and the Emmy-winning "30 Rock," starring Tina Fey ("Baby Mama") and Emmy winner Alec Baldwin, begins its third season on Thursday, October 30 (8:30-9 p.m. ET).

Preceding the premiere of "30 Rock" will be three consecutive weekly "Saturday Night Live" special election editions of "SNL Thursday Night Live" (8:30-9 p.m. ET) on Thursday, October 9, 16 and 23.

"Life" resumes its second season on Friday, October 3 (10-11 p.m. ET) in the drama starring Damian Lewis as a wrongly imprisoned police detective who returns to the force searching for justice. "Crusoe," the action-adventure, contemporary re-telling of the classic Daniel Defoe novel "Robinson Crusoe," will debut on in a special two-hour premiere on Friday, October 17 (8-10 p.m. ET). "America's Toughest Jobs" will air in its regularly scheduled timeslot (8-9 p.m. ET) on Fridays leading up to the premiere of "Crusoe."

Following is NBC's Fall 2008-09 premiere schedule (all times ET):

Couple of notes on the NBC premiere dates for the Fall:

- Kath & Kim, the new sitcom, will now be Thursdays at 9:30pm instead of Tuesdays at 9:30pm.
- SNL Thursday Night Live will now be Thursdays at 8:30pm for three weeks in October rather than 9:30pm
- Reality series America's Toughest Jobs will now be a fall series instead of summer, and will air Fridays at 8 then move to 9pm starting Oct. 24

What's the point in preempting Knight Rider like that? I don't like it either, but it's only a way to lose the viewers it already had. I don't think NBC knows what the hell they're doing half the time.

And they're back to taking advantage of Deal or no Deal. Why would they air it at 10pm? That's the worst slot for a show like that. Rosie's Variety Show I do plan on checking out, though. It could either be really good or really bad.

The SNL Saturday should probably do well for them - do you know what episodes will be repeated?

They need to put Deal on Wednesdays permanently (either that, or Mondays at 8pm, and move Chuck to Wednesdays), and get Lipstick Jungle out of there. Their wasting Deal on Fridays.

Deal has definitely dropped hugely, but it could do much better Mondays at 8pm, where it always was the highest rated, than on Fridays. It would definitely do better than Chuck, but since that already has a full season order, they have to put it somewhere.

The Thursday SNL shows are hilarious - too bad they could be a permanent part of their Thursday night lineup. NBC should make a montage show of all the election skits they've done - that's really what people are watching for.

Pavan
10-18-2008, 01:32 PM
Need you forgot though Deal dropped big time on Mondays at 8 when facing Dancing with the Stars last year. Obviously it will do better than Chuck, but will it in 18-49? Chuck would probably do better or tie it in 18-49.

JulieSomoski
10-18-2008, 01:54 PM
It would definitely outdo Chuck in total viewers, and most likely tie or beat it in the demo. And, Chuck would also outdo Lipstick Jungle if it were to be placed on Wednesdays in it slot. If NBC would do that, it could get ratings up in 2 slots.

But, Lipstick Jungle really needs to go. I don't why they brought it back in the first place.

Pavan
10-18-2008, 02:00 PM
The only thing is, I don't think Chuck is a 10pm type show. NBC tried it I believe on a Thursday at 8 and 10, and it didn't do well. About 6-6.5 million, but the 18-49 was decent in the mid 2s. It was between Apprentice though which did in the high 3s.

That's true. They could always try it, though. How much more badly could it do than Lipstick Jungle in the slot?

The Apprentice is a very realiable show for NBC, even with the Celebrity Editions now. It does a great demo, and still very stable in total viewers. Moving it to 10pm this season may hurt it, though. Too bad they couldn't just cancel Earl and Kath and Kim by midseason, and put Apprentice back at 9pm with ER at 10pm.

That is the only move here that makes sense. Good move NBC. But Life is not a show that can be aired in the middle of the line-up & carry the night and Lipstick Jungle will be even worse on Fridays. Maybe lower than 4 million? Momma's Boys...well that is going to be a big dud.

mama's boys will air after THe BIggest Loser finale. That's a smart way to launch it. They've also effectiveky taken The Bachelor's timeslot before it comes back and it's a new twist on the relationship genre, so it might work and blunt ABC.

I knew L&O would be back quicker than planned. NBC continues to be a disaster season after season. Luckily, L&O can still deliver for them.

I was guessing all along that NBC would switch Life's and Liptick's slots. It only makes sense - between the 2, Life is the one that still shows a sign of life. Lipstick Jungle is definitely the Swingtown of the fall. But who knows - maybe both shows will benefit.

I still think its stupid how NBC cuts Heroes off like that. It needs to run a continuous season - and they wonder why ratings are dropping.

'30 Rock' returns to series high

http://www.thrfeed.com/2008/10/30-rock-returns.html

Mocking Sarah Palin paid off.

Following Fey's devastating impression of the Alaska governor and last month's slew of Emmy wins, the return of NBC's "30 Rock" was given a serious drum roll this fall.

Thankfully for the network, the comedy burst back into the spotlight strong: Thursday's "Rock" premiere hit series-high numbers. The comedy was seen by 8.5 million viewers and earned a 4.1 preliminary adults 18-49 rating -- up 21% from its debut last year. The show was also aided by the primetime edition of "Saturday Night Live" warming up its time period the past few weeks.

"Rock" wasn't able to maintain its lead-in from "The Office" (9.3 million, 4.7), however, which was up 12% this week.

The "Rock" performance finally gives NBC a glowing premiere-rating headline for its scripted programming this season. And with next week's episode featuring a guest appearance by Oprah Winfrey, the show stands a firm shot at maintaining its record high for another round.

As for the rest of NBC's lineup, "My Name Is Earl" (6.2 million, 24) was down a tenth, and "Kath & Kim" grew a notch (5.5 million, 2.3). At 10 p.m., "ER" climbed slightly this week (9.1 million, 3.4) to once again win its time period against its freshman competitors. As for NBC ordering three more scripts to extend the season to a full 22 episodes, sources say the network decided against the idea.

NBC came in third place overall. CBS was first once again, yet had ratings declines on its three key shows. "Survivor" slipped 7% (13.1 million, 4.1), "CSI" was down 17% (18.6 million, 4.7) and "Eleventh Hour" was down 6% (11.5 million, 2.9).

In second place, ABC demonstrated ratings gains in two hours. "Grey's Anatomy" (15.1 million, 5.5) was up a notch from last week and ranked as the highest-rated show of the night. "Life on Mars" (8.4 million, 2.7) went up 13%, though was still in last place at 10 p.m. "Ugly Betty" slipped slightly (8.6 million, 2.5).

In fourth, Fox had the return of "Kitchen Nightmares" to originals (4 million, 1.7), with a "Nightmares" repeat as lead-in. Fox has been running sports and specials in this slot since September, and "Nightmares" was down 19% from its last airing.

The CW aired an on par "Smallville" (4.2 million, 1.7) and a 15%-boosted "Supernatural" (3.5 million, 1.5) that ranked as the show's best performance since its season premiere.

see? people shouldn't knock 30 Rock. It had a bad timeslot and with the Emmys and Tina Fey's popularity as Palin on SNL, people are finally tuning in. So much for being a poor ER leadin, eh?

Exactly! I wonder if 30 Rock will be able to pull in similar numbers next week, with the arrival of Oprah! And I'm very happy to see that ER once again won its time period against its freshman competitors.

Momma's Boy will air 9-11pm on its Monday premiere on Monday, December 22.

The following is tentative...

Post-NFL Sunday line-up starting January 4:
7:00PM Dateline
8:00PM Merlin
9:00PM Medium
10:00PM Kings
(The Golden Globes will air Sunday, January 11 from 8-11pm (Red Carpet special from 7-8pm))

Also, I'm not sure if this is even accurate but one source is saying The Office Spin-Off is launching Thursday, January 1 at 9:30pm ET/PT. Probably from the old plan as the spin-off has been shelved.

So NBC will premiere a lineup then pre-empt it the next week? Dumb. Why not premiere it the 18th(max promotion during the Globes) and just air a special or a movie on the 4th.

Maybe NBC is thinking they can promote the heck out of the new Sunday lineup on Jan. 3's NFL playoff game. Still the January stuff for NBC is tentative.

Putting Medium on Sundays will not work. Desperate Housewives and Cold Case will leave it in the dark. NBC really needs to put it back in its old Monday at 10pm slot - My Own Worst Enemy needs to be cancelled. But I don't know what they'd do for Sundays.

Blah schedule. The new reality all sounds terrible... Howie Do It? Monday looks beyond awful in January. Momma's Boys should be burned off in December. Tuesday will probably be NBC's best night though by no means spectacular. L&O repeats will probably beat Life originals on Wednesdays, but Knight Rider is going to get destroyed against Idol(it's already struggling and it faces virtually no competition). Thursday looks OK, but Kath and Kim is a big hole in the schedule. Fridays looks like crap... FNL will be lucky to match Crusoe's numbers. The Sunday specials look kind of mixed... the Globes will be huge assuming there's no strike, the other stuff could either hit or bomb. SNL post-election isn't doing nearly as well, so who knows there.

Does NBC even know what a midseason schedule is? This looks worse than their summer schedule, IMO. There are so many holes, so many preemptions, and so many series missing that you can barely call this a schedule. I really don't understand why they're giving up Mondays for the month of January - same goes with Sundays. And all the reality shows make things 10 times worse.

I was looking forward to Medium in January - I'm guessing that'll be in February now? Also missing are new shows Kings and Merlin, Deal or no Deal (in place of Howie Do It? ), and Celebrity Apprentice.

Momma's Boy's should strictly be aired in December, especially if it bombs. If it is a disaster, maybe we can expect Medium back on Mondays sooner than expected?

When is Celebrity Apprentice supposed to appear?

Putting KR after the Superbowl makes sense to me if they want it to take off and the audience might hook on if the show opens with some fancy car changing racing scene.

Putting FNL after the Superbowl would also make sense but NBC already handed that show off to DirecTV so I don't think they'd do that now. I have to wonder what FNL's ratings will be like when it returns to the NBC schedule. How many people without DirecTV just downloaded the episode weekly instead of waiting months for it to be on NBC?

If there's a SAG strike, which looks probable, Chuck will be back soon considering they have about 20 episodes in the can so far this season. I believe Heroes is far ahead as well.

What exactly is Howie Do it? Is it a show following his day-to-day life or something?!

And Momma's Boys sounds about as good as the new original ABC family movie starring Patrick Swayze and Carmen Electra:P

From executive producer Michael Green (NBC's "Heroes") comes "Kings," a riveting new drama about a modern-day monarchy. "Kings" is a contemporary retelling of the timeless tale of David and Goliath. This series is an epic story of greed and power, war and romance, forbidden loves and secret alliances -- and a young hero who rises to power in a modern-day kingdom. King Silas Benjamin (Ian McShane, "Deadwood") is the well-entrenched king of Gilboa, with its capital in Shiloh, a clean new city that is unspoiled by time or litter. Silas must deal with the tensions rising between Gilboa and neighboring nation Gath. When several prisoners of war are taken, a young soldier, David Shepard (Chris Egan, "Eragon"), defies orders and crosses enemy lines to save them. Unknown to David, the soldier he saves is Jack Benjamin (Sebastian Stan, "The Covenant"), the son of the king. From that day forth, David's life will never be the same.

Also starring are Susanna Thompson ("Once & Again"), Allison Miller ("Lucy's Piano"), Wes Studi ("Comanche Moon," "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee"), Eamonn Walker ("Oz") and Dylan Baker ("Spiderman 2"). The series is from Universal Media Studios. "Kings" is executive-produced by Green, Erwin Stoff ("I Am Legend") and Francis Lawrence ("I Am Legend"), who also directed the pilot.

"XIII" is a high-stakes cat-and-mouse thriller starring Val Kilmer ("The Doors"), Stephen Dorff ("World Trade Center"), Stephen McHattie ("Watchmen") and Jessalyn Gilsig (NBC's "Heroes"). The adrenaline-charged miniseries begins dramatically as the first female U.S. president is shot dead by a sniper during her Veterans Day speech. Three months later, a wounded man is found tattered in a forest with no memory of his identity. The only clue is a tattoo on his neck -- "XIII." Could his lightning-fast reflexes and killer instincts betray him as the presidential assassin that the U.S. is desperately searching for? Submerged in a far-reaching conspiracy, which threatens to overthrow the entire government, XIII's identity becomes the key to unraveling a complex and dangerous secret that will shock and excite. From the first bullet, this gripping action-thriller will leave audiences gasping for more. Ted Atherton ("Max Payne"), John Bourgeois ("Burn Up"), Greg Bryk ("ReGenesis"), Lucinda Davis ("Wargames: The Dead Code"), and Caterina Murino ("Casino Royale") also star. "XIII" is an official Canada/France co-production, developed and produced by Prodigy Pictures and Cipango in association with Power. Prodigy Pictures' Jay Firestone, Cipango's Edouard Vesinne and Thomas Anargyros and Power's Justin Bodle will serve as executive producers. Directed by Duane Clark ("CSI," "Meadowlands), "XIII" is written by David Wolkove ("La Femme Nikita," "Relic Hunter") and Philippe Lyon ("The Trail," "Alive").

"The Celebrity Apprentice" and host Donald Trump will return with two-hour episodes and a dynamic cast of brilliant celebrity business minds. Last season saw Piers Morgan defeat Trace Adkins to become the first Celebrity Apprentice. This season, 16 new celebrities will be vying for the coveted title, using all their business savvy as they fight for causes close to their hearts. Celebrities will be subjected to long hours, grueling mental challenges, personality clashes, and intense scrutiny -- all without the help of their regular support system of agents, managers, and personal assistants. Ultimately, they will face the judgment of Donald Trump and his advisors in the boardroom, which will include his children (and colleagues), Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr.

Knowing NBC - it probably will be back next season-LOL. But, unless it can magically rise in the ratings come January (which is still possibly), it's looking unlikely.

Very glad to see Medium back in its old slot - this show should singlehandedly save the night for NBC. It's such an underrated show, yet is always a reliable performer for the network. But, I'm wondering why NBC is putting Celebrity Apprentice on Sundays, for 2 hours? That makes no sense to me at all - every episode is going to be 2 hours long? IMO, the show was revived last season after the horrendous LA seasons, but this could be the nail in the coffin. With 2 hours every Sunday, viewers will grow old of it fast.

Says you? I never heard anything about Friday Night Lights being officially canceled. I think it should air right after the Superbowl because it's a show that actually involves a football team. It's a perfect fit. Heroes would have made sense too, since a lot of guys watching the game would probably be into a superhero/action type of show.

They are only making 13 this year and the future looks bleak. Did I say it was "officially canceled?" The only thing official is that they are only producing 13 episodes this year and they would have aired on DirecTV before encoring on NBC for Jan-March. Actors from the show have already started to move on and that should give an indication. Aimee Teegarden is joining the cast of 90210.

Yes, of course it makes sense FNL after the Super Bowl. It is a perfect fit. But why on earth would NBC even do that? They gave up the show to DirecTV, just like they did for the daytime drama Passions. They have no interest of airing it on NBC other than encores.

Official announcement is coming soon, but NBC has announced starting next fall (most likely) they will NOT program in the 10pm hour, instead they will keep Jay Leno and air him weeknights at 10pm ET/PT. Looks like NBC Entertainment is losing money and this would be cost saving for them...but Leno in primetime 5-days a week? Will it work against CBS and ABC dramas? Here is some details:

Jay Leno Taking Over 10 P.M. On NBC
Jeff Zucker keeps Leno and O'Brien with Leno strip

In a surprise move, Jay Leno is taking over the 10 p.m. slot on weeknights on the network.

The move is a huge coup for NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker, who has long said he wanted to keep both Leno and his replacement, Conan O’Brien, in the NBC family.

The move would be a cost-effective manner in which to essentially cut down the amount of hours it must program with fare from the entertainment division. Jeff Zucker foreshadowed the move at a UBS media conference Monday, saying that NBC has to look at options including programming less primetime hours.

It would be a much-needed victory for struggling NBC in the wake of a massive round of layoffs and a re-organization of the entire way the network and studio are structured as the network continues to languish in fourth place.

The move would also bring to an end a potentially messy transition in the coming year that had industry speculation centered on Leno potentially moving to ABC, which would set up a three-way brawl for the dwindling late-night dollars between Leno, O’Brien and CBS’s David Letterman.

Leno’s start date is undecided, but expected to be by next fall.

JAY LENO COMES TO PRIMETIME ON NBC

The Jay Leno Show Will Air Five Nights a Week at 10/9 CT

First-Ever Primetime Stripped Entertainment Program On Broadcast Network Television

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., December 9, 2008 - Jay Leno will host a new comedy/talk show on NBC five nights a week in primetime, beginning in the fall of 2009. The show will originate from Burbank, Calif., and will air Monday through Friday, 10-11 p.m./9-10 p.m. CT. The announcement was made today by Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff, Co-Chairmen, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. This show will be the first-ever entertainment program to be stripped across primetime on broadcast network television.

"As broadcast television continues to change, success demands a new paradigm," said Jeff Zucker, President and CEO, NBC Universal. "For the past few years, we've been very vocal about two things: Transforming broadcast television for today's media landscape, and keeping Jay at NBC. In this one announcement we have done both. It's great for NBC, for our viewers, and for our advertisers."

"Jay has played a major role in defining NBC's brand of high-quality entertainment," said Silverman. "The 10 o'clock hour will bring Jay a whole new audience and provide a great lead-in both for our local affiliates and for Conan O'Brien, the next great host of The Tonight Show."

"Clearly, today's viewers have an appetite for live, topical programming, and that's what we're bringing to primetime," said Graboff. "This innovative deal plays to NBC's strengths as the late-night leader for more than 14 years. The network will be home to three of the biggest names in TV: Jay, Conan and Jimmy."

"This is the greatest all-star comedy lineup in the history of television," said Rick Ludwin, Executive Vice President, Late Night and Primetime Series, NBC Entertainment. "And it happened because topical comedy is in the DNA of NBC and has been for decades."

Leno will sign off as host of The Tonight Show on May 29, 2009. His new show will showcase many of the features that have made Leno America's late-night leader for more than a dozen years. Signature elements will include his opening monologue and well-known comedy segments "Headlines," "Jaywalking" and "Battle of the Jaywalking All-Stars."

As previously announced, Conan O'Brien will take over The Tonight Show hosting duties on June 1, 2009, broadcasting from the state-of-the-art studio currently under construction on the Universal lot. O'Brien will continue an unmatched late-night legacy that includes Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, and, for the last 16 years, Jay Leno. Jimmy Fallon will assume the role of host of Late Night on March 2, 2009.

Since becoming host of The Tonight Show on May 25, 1992, Leno has experienced numerous highlights, including winning the 1995 Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy, Variety or Music Series. Most recently, Leno was nominated for an Emmy in 2008 for his popular internet show "Jay Leno's Garage," which allows fans a peak into his famous garage by logging on to http://www.jaylenosgarage.com. Prior to becoming host of Tonight, Jay had been the exclusive guest host on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson since September 1987. He first appeared as a guest on the show March 2, 1977, and he made numerous additional appearances on Tonight as well as on NBC's former program Late Night with David Letterman.

One of the country's premier comedians, Jay has performed thousands of comedy shows around the United States for the past 20 years. He remains passionate about performing in front of live audiences and appears regularly in Las Vegas, on college campuses around the United States, and in other venues.

Jay has authored two New York Times best-selling children's books and has published four versions of Headlines, the compilation of books and desk calendars featuring his favorite funny newspaper headlines, and Police Blotter, a book with more humorous newspaper clips involving police stories (book proceeds go to various charities).

Jay was represented by his long-time attorney, Ken Ziffren. The show will be produced by Big Dog Productions in association with Universal Media Studios. Debbie Vickers will serve as executive producer.

I really think this could mark the end of NBC. I honestly give them 1 more season - if they can't get out of deadleast next season, how in the world will they survive as a broadcast network beyond that?

I have mixed feelings - I love Jay Leno, and I know I'll be watching his show near daily when it premieres, this is disastrous for NBC. Like you said Pavan, many, many series will be cut - comedy-wise, I see every one going except The Office (maybe 30 Rock for midseason, because of the emmys it racks up). I think this could also be the end for Heroes - its been bad this season, and its one of the highest costing shows on television. Law and Order could also be in trouble - while it still does good, its old, and its expensive.

I think Medium will definitely be back - it still one of their top shows, and it would probably do better at 9pm anyways. Chuck could go either way - its ratings have been okay this season, but it can't be too expensive.

NBC really should have tried harder with a more aggressive schedule. If they could find a few new shows to do well, they wouldn't be in that bad of a shape. But, no wonder Silverman's keeping shows like Kath and Kim, Knight Rider, and Life on the air - they have just about no future after this season.

I agree. I think this is the beginning of the end of NBC. What an embarrassment. How in the hell does Jeff Zucker still have a job? When he took over NBC, they were at the top of the world, absolutely destroying the competition, and now they are in a distant last place. What gives? I don't get it. Leno is going to do awful for primetime(4 million is great for late night but CW numbers in primetime). ABC and CBS need to take advantage of this and I'm sure they will.

What if Kings hit? Will it then move to Thursdays at 9 to get destroyed by CSI and Grey's? Will BL and The Apprentice remain two hours? Sad. I can't even remember the last primetime program I watched in it's entirety on NBC. ohno:

This is definitely the beginning of the end for NBC. Instead of trying to create a successful, well-balanced schedule, they continue to air ratings-disasters like Knight Rider and Kath and Kim, only to let go 5 hours of programming to Jay Leno. Like you said, 4-5 million is good in latenight, but that's about the equivalent of no more than 6 million in primetime.

The only show I've watched regularly on NBC is Medium, and even that show has gotten shafted numerously its 4 seasons on the air. The Apprentice can still be good, but not good enough to fill 2 hours of programming anymore - same goes for Biggest Loser.

I have no doubt ABC and CBS will dominate in 10pm. This could mean good news for shows like Private Practice and Life on Mars, which have already struggled this season.

As long as Medium comes back I'll be happy. THe only other NBC show I watch is Earl and I think that's on it's last legs. Of course there's always the remote possiblity CBS could pick up Medium if NBC dumps it (which would be incredibly stupid in my opinion).

Shows I see gone aftet this season;
Friday Night Lights
Deal or No Deal (Primetime)
Heroes (Too Expensive)
Knight Rider (Goodbye!)
The Apprentice
Kath & Kim
My Name is Earl

That's 6 hours of programmin cut. I don't think they'll cut Chuck. I'm not saying that as a fan, but as bad as Silverman is, he gave the show of full season in August cause frankly, its a great show. Creatively, although done many times before, is acted very well and this second season has been outstanding! I see Chuck, The Office and 30 Rock on in Thursdays next year:)

The Office, 30 Rock, and Chuck is very likely for next season.

I agree with all shows you listed - all of them are either on thier last legs are frankly a waste of time and money. You can also add Life to the list, and probably Law and Order (which continues to do horribly on Wednesdays this season). The Apprentice could be back, though, depending on how it does on Sundays. Medium is likely for a return next season I think.

Friday Night Lights - Sadly, America just doesn't seem to appreciate great television like this. It was saved last year in part to the deal with Direct TV, an impressively loyal fanbase, and because the critics can't get enough of it. FNL's luck might run out if they can't draw a bigger audience this season.

Deal or No Deal (Primetime) - It was doing well for a while, but now it's losing steam. I'm not a fan of these types of shows, so I hope they do get rid of it. Plus, the show is on during the daytime. How much Deal or No Deal can people really take?

Heroes - Even though it is expensive, and the show has been suffering from a ratings and critical backlash this past year, I don't see NBC getting rid of this show anytime soon.

Knight Rider - I haven't watched a single episode, nor do I have any desire to in the future. I think it was a big mistake to pick the show up in the first place, and an even bigger mistake to give it a full season. I doubt it will return next season.

The Apprentice - I think the "celebrity" edition put the show back on the map, but still, it needs to end. And I think it will after this season. There's only so much you can do with this premise. The freshness of the show is gone.

Kath & Kim - Personally, I didn't like the show. I stuck around for a few episodes, hoping it would get better, but it didn't. The ratings are really bad too. I think NBC picked it up for a full season because they didn't have anything else to offer in the comedy department last fall. And with Scrubs gone, they probably would have aired a rerun of something in the 8:30pm timeslot. I wouldn't mind two episodes of 30 Rock a week, but that's just me. I think Kath & Kim is done after this season.

My Name Is Earl - This one is tricky. I think there's a 50% chance of it being canceled, and a 50% chance of it returning next season.

Very interesting, BuffyBoy. Deal or no Deal definitely needs a rest - people just don't care to watch it in primetime anymore, unfortunately. I think all the little gimmcks they do during the show killed it. Friday Night Lights has a very minimal chance - while its a fantastic show, it just hasn't clicked with audiences (why isn't NBC airing this after the superbowl???)

I still love The Apprentice, and Celebrity Apprentice definitely revived the format last season. Not only that, but it got ratings back up - didn't it get like 13 million for its finale? That was the highest numbers it got for a finale in 4 seasons. If it does well on Sundays (it could go either way), I see it sticking around for awhile longer.

Heroes is losing steam EXTREMELY fast. And the chances it will go down even further next season is high. I don't even see how NBC can afford a show like this, especially with all these budget cuts. BAnd Knight Rider will never make the cut. Same goes for Kath and Kim (I don't even know its still on the air).

With My Name is Earl, it's gone down the drain. Ratings are terrible this season - NBC should give it a proper ending this season and be done with it. What they need to do is stop the nonsense single-cam shows, and go back to what was always successful for them, which is the multi-camera sitcom. Maybe keep The Office and 30 Rock, and add 1 or 2 new multi-cam sitcoms.

Looks like Momma's Boys was a huge disappointment last night - although Biggest Loser had a great season finale, even against tough competition from CBS, Momma's Boys could manage only 6 million viewers.

IMO, Medium will be returning earlier than expected in January rather than Febraury. There's no way NBC can leave MB on Mondays in January.

If NBC wanted more ER that badly, why did they annnouce this as the last season?

That new cooking show of theirs sounds like an exact ripoff of Hell's Kitchen. I mean, the description given is the exact one that could be given to HK. I doubt this will do much better than Knight Rider was doing.

I'm not sure how well Kings will do Sundays at 8pm - it could go modestly, or it could flop. NBC should have moved Celebrity Apprentice, which will probably do good numbers, 8pm-10pm, with Kings at 10pm.

New theory comes to mind;

instead of cancelling 5+ hours of programming next year for Leno, can't NBC just do 13-episode seasons of shows and fill their schedule with new programming all throughout the year? I mean, they have been trying to become a network in which always has something new to air, even its a reality series in the summer, instead of showing repeat airings.

Personally, I'd rather have a show I love get 13 episodes a year, then get canned for Leno 2.0. For example, Chuck may be a modest hit, but it does have a chance of cancellation, as much as NBC loves it. I personally, would rather have 13-18 episodes a year instead of a full 22-24 episode season, then have it cancelled. Even if it aired in the summer, I'd rather hold out for it, cause personally, this show only got better after being off the air for 9 months during and after the strike.

That's not a bad idea - maybe start seasons in September, end them in December, then start up new/returning series in January, end in May.

I don't get why NBC would rather end Chuck and Heroes in April rather than May sweeps - do they really think "Who do you think they are?" will hit?? Same goes for Life - why is it ending so early in the season, and what will take its place?

I take it Medium will be airing its season straight through without repeats, right? That would give it somewhere around 16 episodes, right? I'd like to see it build on Heroes numbers at 10pm - that would be a kick in the face to Heroes.

Pavan, how many episodes does Medium have this season? Since it'll be airing until early June, and with all the 2 hour blocks in May, it sounds like it could have a 20-22 episode season.

With Medium airing repeats at 8pm for the summer, sounds like NBC could be testing it to see how it does (although fall skeds will be out by then, so I guess it really doesn't matter).

Pavan

There are 19 episodes of Medium. So one week will be a repeat now, probably in April.

Thanks. There's a repeat of the show this Monday (along with the rest of the NBC Monday lineup), from season 4.

The only summer shows I will give a shot are The Listener and The Philanthropist. All of the others sound awful. The promo I saw for Merlin looked the worst. NBC has been a joke for a few years now, and will continue to be this summer.

*The mini-series, The Storm, also sounds good since I like that stuff.

That's what I was thinking. I don't understand why they're being repeated at all, accept to end as scheduled. Chuck and Heroes will be disasters, while Medium could go either way. Since it's a repeat from last season, it could do as bad as Chuck or better than Heroes.

I have to laugh how NBC is premiering 3 scripted shows this summer. They'll all probably do better than half their regular season lineup, that's the sad thing. Philanthropist looks okay, but I probably won't be watching any of them.

What's he supposed to talk about now? I've never seen a President love the camera as much as this guy. What's even worse for Heroes is the 2.6 demo it had last night - is that terrible or what? This show was once a demo powerhouse, what happened? And, it got relatively the same ratings as Chuck, which is even worse. One good thing about it, though, is how good it makes Medium look.

Dateline should be a better lead-in to Celebrity Apprentice. CA gets killed in that first half hour, which brings its total ratings down every week. Hopefully now that'll change with a better lead-in.

NBC doesn't have much at all anymore. Does anyone think Southland is going to get good ratings on NBC? It's getting great reviews but it seems like any show that premieres on NBC is an instant flop. Chuck is the only show I love on NBC. I like SVU but it's a shadow of it's former self and if Benson and Stabler leave then so will I. I can picture myself not watching one single show on NBC next year.

JulieSomoski
04-07-2009, 06:11 PM
It doesn't matter if Southland is a great show - it's on NBC, and it's going to do bad, most likely. SVU would be getting 14 million on CBS. Medium would get 10 million on ABC. Southland would be a breakout hit on CBS. But, no one wants to watch NBC, and therefore, no matter what they air, it isn't going to hit.

I feel bad for Southland, because it sounds like an amazing show. I'm really pulling for it, because it deserves good ratings. I plan on watching it this Thursday, and DVRing Harper's Island on CBS this Thursday (possibly the other way around).

Those are NBC's strongest shows but compare it to ABC/CBS/FOX's biggest shows, DWTS, CSI, Idol, DH, Grey's, NCIS, Mentalist all in the 15-20 million range, NBC's top shows are closer to 10 million. About 10 years ago NBC used to get 25-30 million viewers on Thursday Night. To me that was when NBC went downhill, when Apprentice moved to Thursdays destroying Must See TV, and when Friends ended.

and NBC is so weak that they have to air The Biggest Loser for 2 hours on Tuesdays. Wednesdays is going to turn into a L&O repeat night. They have nothing really. BL, The Office, 30 Rock....back in the '80's when NBC was supreme, all of those shows would be lucky to even survive.

Tragedy struck NBC's pilot "Parenthood" on Wednesday night when NBC drama executive Nora O'Brien died unexpectedly on the Berkeley set of the pilot starring Peter Krause, Maura Tierney and Erika Christensen.

According to sources, O'Brien, a six-year NBC Uni veteran, died of a brain aneurysm. She was 42.

"Our hearts go out to the family and friends of our beloved colleague Nora, who was respected and cherished by so many people in the entertainment community," NBC Uni said in a statement. "She'll truly be missed by all of us."

In light of her passing, NBC canceled its pilot screenings scheduled for Thursday. Production on "Parenthood" has been shut down for two days.

O'Briencame to NBC in January 2008 when she was named vp drama programming at Universal Media Studios, which merged with the network in December.

At the studio, she worked on upcoming NBC drama series "The Philanthropist" among other projects.

I agree with you almost completely, Pavan. I think Law & Order and Medium will be the on the bubble shows returning, while Earl and Chuck get the axe. I would like to see both of these shows make up Friday nights in the fall, as L&O at 8pm and Medium at 9pm could get high ratings airing together. If not, Medium could always return to Mondays in midseason like always.

If NBC really wants to hold onto Chuck awhile, it should be for midseason. And Heroes should go to Sundays at 8pm, leading into Celebrity Apprentice from 9-11pm starting in January for a final 18 episodes or so. I doubt Earl will be back. NBC just doesn't have room for it.

It'll probably pair up with Community, since with the so-far high profile of Community, I'm sure NBC will be expecting it to do well. With Parks & Rec back, though, this is pretty much the end of Earl on NBC.

It's ratings really are terrible. But NBC seems set in giving shows with bad ratings a chance - they're probably hoping P&R will take the route of The Office and 30 Rock by growing overtime, and eventually becoming a hit in their sense.

NBC is not going to renew everything, so Chuck has to be the odd one out. It makes no sense anyway for them to bring it back. It has not grown at all in two full seasons (and special airings on Thursday wasn't any better). With Leno coming, the schedule will already be packed. NBC says it might not make a decision on Chuck until actual upfront week, which to me is a bad sign and so they can hide fan reaction another two weeks. I think NBC is more trying to save Southand and Parks & Recreation than Chuck. Medium and Law & Order will probably be brought back in midseason to fill any holes. Earl and Chuck will have to suffer because they don't do the ratings of those two.

What I see, though, is NBC giving most of their shows shortened seasons. Since these are the last-minute renewals at NBC, I'm guessing all will be benched for midseason. I could see Medium and Law & Order possibly making the fall schedule, or returning early if any of their pilots bomb. Who knows what they have in mind for Chuck, though. Their schedule will definitely be jampacked next season.

I guess this means things don't look too good for My Name is Earl, then, as that seems to be the only bubble show to get cancelled right now.

I think MNIE has a good shot of going to Fox. They need comedies over there and they produce the show so they need as many episodes as possible for it to have a healthy syndicated life. I hear they have been shopping it over there too. It has come back creatively after last season which I didn't like at all. It seems like a lot of viewers never came back though.

This proves NBC is a strange network. They are cost cutting and yet they want to pick-up everything that is on the bubble? Zucker and Ben are doing a terrible job and NBC could be bankrupt at this rate very soon. What is the point of cost cutting when they are spending a lot still? They are planning for Leno to fail I guess.

Yeah, that option still remains open for Earl. I think it's sad that FOX has 0 comedies on their lineup right now, and Earl could change that. But from a ratings standpoint, it would be like ABC taking Scrubs. Ratings will probably just sink further for Earl if it goes to FOX.

I can't wait to see what NBC's schedules will look like-LOL. Right now, I think we can expect them to be an utter mess. I really didn't think NBC would renew Chuck - I mean, where is it even going to go? Back to Mondays? Fridays? Saturdays?

Medium I could see, although it's probably one of their more expensive shows to produce. Maybe they reached a cost-cutting deal for it? If there's any light over at NBC, they'll air it in the fall. But if not, at least we got a renewal. And Law & Order - that was probably a given for them.

If Chuck is renewed, I will be on cloud 9.

As for Earl....I never liked that show. Actually I have never liked any of NBC's sitcoms in recent years (Office, 30 Rock, Earl of course, etc) -- CBS's are better but I rarely watch them. ABC's current ones do nothing for me (well Scrubs is gone now and Jim is finally leaving).

30 Rock has grown on me a little bit. I still can't stand the Office though.

I wish NBC would stop with these single-cam "mockumentaries" they seem to love so much. I can't stand them

I agree. I won't sob if Earl leaves. A lot of their shows are downright weird. Chuck and Medium are all I care for.

They sure are on a spending binge.

The more I think about it, the more confused I get. What are they thinking? They will have a 2 hour schedule to cram all of these shows in. Biggest Loser will take an entire night's worth of programming up (excluding Leno)!

NBC has been talking about going year round for years. Maybe they're finally going to do it. Probably most of these shows won't even get a 22 episode pickup. There really isn't much on NBC that I care to watch. I love Chuck. I watch SVU but that show isn't as good as it used to be and if they lose the stars then I'm done with it. I like Earl but I don't watch it all the time. That's about it. I used to watch Heroes but it got bad.

I thought NBC was in last place and failing ? How in the world can they just renew all of their failing shows, and let them bomb through another season ? Where are they going to put new shows on if they simply renew everything ? NBC is just the worst run network on TV. Here they need change more than any other network, and it looks like they are going with the same pile of crap that got them into last place. What an idiot network.

Remember that Silverman and Zucker said that being in 1st place is overrated. Maybe they like being in 4th place.

But seriously, that's about the only excuse there is. They enjoy the rush of being dead last, and want to keep it that way

It is very strange though. This is not only going to cost them bundles of money to keep all these shows around, but their schedule will be jam packed. The only shows that'll be getting full seasons are SVU, The Office, and 30 Rock. Besides that, shows like Medium, Heroes, and Law & Order will probably get 18 episodes, and shows like Chuck, Southland, and all of their new shows will only get 13 episodes. That's the way they obviously want to play it.

Yeah. I wish Chuck could get 18 episodes but I'll be happy if it just comes back at all. I hate those sitcoms are coming back, but what works, works I guess :(

All this "speculation" is really just that. Don't believe anything until tomorrow. I've seen wrong things posted more than right things over the years.

That's very true. I've had shows that I've liked that were reported to have been renewed and at the last minute the network changed it's mind. It can be very nerve racking. lol

That was fast... But it did really hurt AGT last night IMO. I'm not sure why it was moved to Mondays though, it doesn't make much sense.

The Wanted would be better off airing on Saturdays. The Criminal Intent repeat was doing okay at 9pm.

Oh I'm sure that'll do wonders for it's hideous embarrassing 0.8 demo it got this week

NBC is lucky they have the #1 summer show AGT, because the rest of the schedule is nothing but a complete and total catastrophe.
