I didn't think it was as bad as Simone said it wasn't my favorite performance of her's but I'm not real crazy for Dolly Parton songs so they really have to do good to get me to really like it

I really liked it... for once, she has picked a good song for herself I think.

David C - pretty good, he actually showed he can SING and not just "rock". a little boring but overall i liked it.

Ramiele - one of her better ones... the band over-powered her but it was decent.

Syesha - well i knew they were going to tear her apart for the Whitney thing, because you know, Whitney is God and singing anything she ever sung ever is commiting a deadly sin, but i liked this. i liked how she combined the two versions...it was good.

Michael - His song choices keep getting better. I think this is his best performance yet!

Michael Johns- Wonderful I never would of thought they would do a Dolly song like that. That was really good. Great singers Idol has this season. I was so worried that they would all stink doing Dolly but they all did great. I am just loving this season of Idol it is my favorite so far.

HA! And everybody was ready for Dolly week to be a bust! Everybody performed very well tonight, and I enjoyed the show thoroughly. No WTF performances, and definitely no performances where I cringed enough to change the channel.

My comments, in order of my rankings. Everybody did a really good job tonight, so it's hard to rank them...

1. Carly - Like I already alluded to, this is one of my favorite Dolly songs, pretty much one of my favorites period. Carly did a fantastic job, much better than last week, and I absolutely loved that she mellowed down the arrangement and slowed it down a bit. A very, very intimate performance. Great job, Carly!

2. David A. - He excells at ballads, and he earns the praise for it, but his uptempo performances are nowhere near as stand-out as his ballads. But anyway, he did a ballad an unsurprisingly, it was great. It's a very pretty song, with very...I don't know...flowery lyrics. He did an awesome job with it.

3. Syesha - First off, MAJOR, MAJOR props for not going all-out Whitney on us. Absolutely adored the fact that she put the Dolly version in there too. Personally, I think she should have kept it Dolly all the way through, for the simple fact that it probably would have avoided the Whitney comparison. But she's improved phenomenally over the last two weeks, and I think she'll only get even better.

4. Kristy - This is the kind of music that she takes and runs with. This performance was perfect for her and definitely my favorite of all of the ones she's done. She was confident in it, she knew what she was singing, she understood the song. Her facial expressions and emotions were right on. We know she can sing, but her performances lack substance every now and then, but she brought out her A game this week for sure.

5. Brooke - I love the song, and I think she did a good job with it. One of the judges said that they didn't see emotion in her performance, but I felt something there. She was telling Jolene to stop in her tracks, don't take her man! I didn't like all those people on stage though...just looked a little cluttered.

6. Jason - Last week's boring performance was totally made up with this week's. He did a great job, sang a little on the low side, but he was still very much in it. Enjoyable performance, definitely.

7. Michael - Always with the little sexy performances, right? Good job once again. His singing voice has that little Australian hint to it, and it works. The last note was an awesome show-closer.

The rest are pretty much a mixed bag for me. I didn't pay enough attention to David C's performance to really think enough about it. It was good from what I heard, but nothing stood out. Yes for him doing his own "own" arrangement this week, but he's doing something that Chris Daughtry did that annoyed me. He bypasses the theme as much a humanly possible. Ramiele's was a good performance, but ultimately, I think it's her week to go. Just wasn't memorable, for me at least.

1. Michael- My favorite performance of the night. He has really shown what he is capable of.

2. David Cook- Another solid performance from him. I think him and Michael should be in the final two.

3. Jason-I don't know what Simon was listening to, but I thought Jason sounded great. It was the perfect song for him.

4. Brooke- I expected a little more from her. She's been playing it a little too safe lately.

5. Syesha- She sounded beautiful, but I do think she should have kept the Whitney version out of it.

6. Kristy-I actually thought she was pretty good. Maybe she found her niche. I still think she should have gone a few weeks ago.

7. Carly- Decent.

8. Ramiele- Better than she has been.

Which is why I was never a huge fan of hers, either. You can be an amazing singer, absolutely one of the best in the land, but I get bored if every single one of your songs is the same in tempo, style, etc. I like variety, and with a show like AI, I think it's important for the contestants to put it out there that they can sing anything. It isn't just a detriment for David, for me, but also for David Cook and it was for Amanda, too.

Which is why I was never a huge fan of hers, either.

Yeah, you're right. He has the fanbase that'll keep him on as long as possible. I always thought of the show as a performance-by-performance thing, though, and I'm always in the mindset of whoever has the worst performance should go. I don't take into account "well...so-and-so was really good last week, so I want them to stay..."

But, to each his own.
