TVFactFan 04-01-2008, 07:12 PM In the ep-"One on One" Mel was helping Jolene with playing basketball and then when it was over they starting KISSING??. I did not see that coming at all. Mel was a OLD DIRTY DOG!!!!!
Then they start KISSIN AGAIN in the DINER and get caught by ALICE and VERA!!!!!!!!!!!!-lol
GARFIELDKOOL 04-01-2008, 07:33 PM Who the hell is Vera and Alice to catch their boss kissing another employee? Mel obviously had a thing for all his southern-talking waitressess.
TVFactFan 04-01-2008, 07:40 PM Who the hell is Vera and Alice to catch their boss kissing another employee? Mel obviously had a thing for all his southern-talking waitressess.
I guess that explained why Joelene went out her way to pick with Mel all the time-lol
catlover79 04-01-2008, 11:08 PM puke: I never knew Mel and Jolene did THAT...what happened to his "puppy toes" aka Marie??
Scoobiedoo30 04-02-2008, 12:00 AM I could not belive that Mel was Kissing Jolene.

How were Vera and Alice out of line by walking into their place of work?

Marie broke up with Mel in '84 (that's the date of actress Victoria Carrol's last appearance)
BTW, this was one WEIRD episode

2 Days Left and no more Alice
Scoobiedoo30 04-02-2008, 01:04 AM I was wondering how can Vera and Alice be out of line.

Thanks for the info, Jude...I was wondering what had happened to Marie.
Ireneparalegal 04-02-2008, 05:18 PM I was wondering how can Vera and Alice be out of line.
They were not out of line for walking into the diner. But their reaction sure was out of line. It is Mel's and Jolene's business if they kiss and find each other attractive. I mean, what was wrong with Mel? He had his own business, he had his apartment, he was a rugged man, etc. Alice made this face like it was just gross for Jolene to be kissing Mel.

I think it was the AGE factor
Ireneparalegal 04-02-2008, 05:50 PM I think it was the AGE factor
 Jolene was no teenager.
TVFactFan 04-02-2008, 05:52 PM  Jolene was no teenager.
But wasn't Mel still 20 years older?

ah, ok. I didn't understand what GARFIELDKOOL meant in the beginning. I totally agree with this.
Ireneparalegal 04-02-2008, 06:01 PM But wasn't Mel still 20 years older?
Jolene appeared (to me) that she was around 29-30 years old. What is up with the age difference Sol? If she LOOKED Mel's age, I bet you wouldn't have a problem with it.

But I think that's why Alice was grossed out, because of Mel being like a father to them-lol

He was like a father to Vera, not Alice and most definitely not Jolene.

I don't have problems with a 20-year age difference if it's say, 30 and 50, or 40 and 60, etc. If Jolene was a teenager, it would be a different story.

That's what I say. Besides, Marie LOOKED younger than Jolene and there was no issue there.

Marie did look pretty young, didn't she?

Alice had this sickening miss I'm so better than you attitude--made me wanna smack her good!

Ya'll recall the tornado while in the cabin episode? Marie was with them and they all crouched together in the bathub? When they used that scene in the opening credits, they somehow erased Marie and inserted Tommy in the scene!!

Same here.
And that hairstyle of Alice's...puke:
She looked like she was trying for that Gumby look that was so popular in the 80's

Yea, just what was up with that hairdon't? :D
catlover79 04-03-2008, 11:44 PM Maybe it's just me, but I liked Linda Lavin's other famous character, Det. Janice Wentworth (Barney Miller) much more than Alice. Wentworth didn't take any crap but she wasn't smug and self-righteous, either.

I think her hair looked so much better in the early seasons. I thought in the final season it was kind of an improvement, but I still hated it short.

I haven't seen any of her other roles but I'm interested. I'd also like to see her guest appearance on Rhoda.
Ireneparalegal 04-03-2008, 11:47 PM Her hair looked great when it was long. I can't stand short hair on women unless they can pull it off. Linda could not pull it off.

Remember the time on Barney Miller when Wojo ragged on Wentworth because of her hair? That's what this discussion made me think of!

Wojo was hillarious. I sure wish BM would come on some channel, imagine the chats we'd be having?

I know, I know...:( But at least all the Gregory Sierra episodes are on DVD now!! I wonder how things would've turned out had Wentworth stayed on, even if they had to recast the role when LL left for Alice.

I would love to see Room for Two again (with Patricia Heaton--wait, is this going to send a signal to Brian Damage for me talking about his hot Patty?). Linda wore her early Alice long flip do in this show.

I remember Room for Two...it got a lot of press here in the Cleveland area because that's where Patricia Heaton is from. It was a cute little show, what little of it I remember.
Linda Lavin also was a guest star on Law & Order: Criminal Intent a few years ago - I believe it was the first or second season. LL's Barney Miller co-star Hal Linden appeared on another CI ep around the same time!!

I was so disappointed, I had finally started seeing BM regularly on TVLand and they were in the final season, but they had removed the show by season two. Not to mention they skipped the finale.

Seasons 1 & 2 of BM are both on DVD, and all 5 of LL's appearances are there! Hope you get to check them out.
FredScuttle 04-04-2008, 02:20 PM I saw a few of the Barney Miller episodes a year or two ago when it was airing on WWME-23 in Chicago, but I don't think they've shown it for awhile now.
Ireneparalegal 04-04-2008, 02:30 PM I have season one of BM, which reminds me, I got to put Chano's spanish words into english for Monika. ;)

You better - and there are more Spanish rants for you to translate in Season 2!! Thanks, Irene.

Yeah I was originally disappointed to see that TVLand had also skipped over episode 1. But then I found out season one and now two are on DVD so I felt better about it.
