Does anyone have BOTH the B&W and color seasons? If so why? If you only have one or the other, why did you choose one vs. buying the other?

If you only have one or the other, why did you choose one vs. buying the other? OH Nuts! 03-29-2008, 09:58 AM I just went with what I first could get my hands on. Mine are all color but if I had stumbled on a B&W first I would have gotten that and been just as happy. I lucked out with Seasons 4 & 5 they went on sale at J & R and got them for $19.99 each. I'm not bothering w Seasons 6+ as I liked the Dick York Darrin MUCH MUCH better. catlover79 03-29-2008, 11:23 AM I just went with what I first could get my hands on. I'm not a fan of the Sargent era either, so I'm not going to bother with seasons 6-8. Lee G 03-29-2008, 12:21 PM I have the first two seasons in the original black and white. I will not buy anything that's been "colorized". I also have seasons three and four. The third season is when they started filming the show in color, so I have two black and white seasons and two color ones. That's good enough for me, I'm not planning on buying season five or any of the Dick Sargent seasons. There's nothing wrong with Dick Sargent, he did OK in the show, the problem is the show was already past it's prime by the time he came along. Jude The Obscure 03-29-2008, 12:25 PM Does anyone have BOTH the B&W and color seasons? If so why? If you only have one or the other, why did you choose one vs. buying the other? I have season 1 in B&W (because I like shows presented in their original form) but season 2 in color (was the only option in the store). And for the record, I am buying the remaining seasons, because there are still plenty of good shows in the BW series. Lee G 03-29-2008, 12:47 PM I get all my DVD's from Movies Unlimited. They are great to order from, and if something comes in both black and white or color, they offer both so you're not forced to settle for the color one if that's not really what you want. They also offer expedited shipping, so for a few extra bucks you can have your stuff in a couple days as opposed to standard mail which can take as long as a week or more. Right now I get 75-80% of my DVDs from J & R. I ususally just wait to see what's on sale. Last year they had an amazing blow out sale on shows from the 70s. Ireneparalegal 03-29-2008, 11:17 PM Thanx for the insight. catlover79 03-29-2008, 11:19 PM Thanx for the insight. Anytime, salt sister!!! MickeyMac 06-18-2008, 06:46 PM TV shows that are shot in black in white should stay that way. When they colorize them, it looks cheap and tacky. I got the first two seaons of Bewitched in glorious black and white, and they look magnificent. comedyfreak 06-20-2008, 08:30 AM And for the record, I am buying the remaining seasons, because there are still plenty of good shows in the BW series. Good to hear, LOL. I agree with you and I really liked the season 7 Salem and King Henry the VIII storylines. Ronald Long is my favorite character actor, who played a guest role on Lost In Space. MichaelKeith 06-30-2008, 02:06 PM I have season 1 in both B&W and color. I actually think they did a good job colorizing them, but since season one was originally shot in B&W, I also wanted it that way! I have season 2 in color only as I didn't care as much that it be original since it wasn't the first season of the show. catlover79 07-19-2008, 08:15 PM I have season 1 in both B&W and color. TV shows (and movies) that were filmed in black-and-white should STAY in black-and-white!!!! I have the DVDs of "THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW" and I would never even CONSIDER buying colorized versions of them; if they made them. Jude The Obscure 07-20-2008, 09:37 PM just a note........these episodes weren't colorized for the DVDs.....they were actually syndicated, first in Canada (on Prime), then later on Hallmark. catlover79 07-31-2008, 12:32 AM ^ That's right, I remember seeing the first two seasons in color on one of my local stations YEARS before the DVDs came out. |
