View Full Version : 'Family Feud' heading to primetime
Brian Damage 03-26-2008, 03:04 PM Survey says: "Family Feud" is heading to primetime.
NBC and "American Idol" producer FremantleMedia North America are prepping a celebrity edition of the classic quizzer and are fast-tracking it for broadcast as soon as this summer. While the "Feud" format is more than 30 years old, the series has never aired as a regular primetime network show.
Peacock and Fremantle are keeping a tight lid on details surrounding the primetime "Feud," with casting just getting under way.
While it's possible the show could cast celeb families such as the Baldwin brothers or the Lohan clan, producers might also take a page from "Feud" history and use the casts of TV shows and movies (think the "Lost" castaways vs. the "Heroes" gang). During its original run, "Feud" often featured theme weeks in which stars of, say, "Baywatch" or "American Gladiators" competed against each other.
Sale of "Feud" reps the latest resurrection of a quizzer format by Fremantle, which boasts a huge library of classic game shows.
CBS just greenlit another batch of primetime episodes of the studio's "The Price Is Right." Eye is also prepping "Million Dollar Password," perhaps for the summer. And TBS is readying a primetime take on Fremantle's "Match Game."
New take on "Feud" also continues NBC programming co-chief Ben Silverman's love affair with all things '70s and '80s. During his first year at the net, Silverman has revived both "Knight Rider" and "Gladiators."
With "Feud," NBC adds another project to its increasingly crowded "All-American Summer" slate of reality skeins set to roll out in mid-May with the return of "Gladiators."
"Feud" currently airs as a syndie strip distribbed by Fremantle, with John O'Hurley hosting. Skein, a spinoff of sorts from "Match Game," began as an ABC daytime series in 1976.

Please make them stop!!!
;)
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2008, 04:53 PM Celebrity edition of Family Feud. What's next? The murderers edition:
CHARLIE, SUSAN ATKINS, LYNETTE "SQUEAKY" FROMME...THE MANSON FAMILY
vs.
OJ. SIMPSON, ROBERT BLAKE AND PHIL SPECTOR...THE GUILTY BUT FOUND INNOCENT FAMILY.
friendsfan77 03-26-2008, 05:11 PM ^
I would love it if it were casts of sitcoms or dramas like they had with the all-star primetime shows back in the late '70's; I'd feel much differently about seeing celebrity wannabes or reality show rejects
We're going to have lots of FF with it airing on GSN so much, and then ION next month, not to mention it comes on twice a day already on many local affilliates.
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2008, 05:12 PM It does say in the article that the producers MAY cast shows such as "Lost" cast members vs. "Heroes" cast members.
JulieSomoski 03-26-2008, 06:08 PM Do we really need Family Feud in primetime? I don't get what all the hype is with this show lately. It doesn't even do that well in daytime syndication let alone in primetime. Why the hell would anyone even want to see the Lohans vs. the Spears?
Meanwhile, great news about the rumors for Price is Right MIllion Dollar Spectacular to be a summer regular. Let's cross our fingers . . .

JulieSomoski 06-11-2008, 04:07 PM These celebrities are actually not that bad. Some will be fun to see play, like the Kardashian sisters (I'm gonna be laughing my ass off on that one), Kathie Lee Gifford vs. Dog the Bounty Hunter, Bill Engvall vs. Larry the Cable Guy, and Vincent Pastore vs. The Girls Next Store (that will definitely be good-LOL).
The Great One 06-11-2008, 05:54 PM Does anyone here know why John O' Hurley will not be hosting "Celebrity Family Feud"? I thought he was the main host for Family Feud.
Pavan 06-11-2008, 05:56 PM Because this is the NBC version, not first-run.
