Ireneparalegal 03-25-2008, 04:25 PM Why don't they take off that sh*t Wayans Bros. and keep Alice!!!!!!!?????
FAMILY FEUD???? GIMME A F***ING BREAK HERE.
Jude The Obscure 03-25-2008, 04:29 PM Well an hour is an hour........so hopefully this is the start of a new direction for ION. I'm kinda puzzled by the Thursday move--hopefully they may spotlight shows that otherwise wouldn't get shown. I hope it is not another RHI movie night. Hope they give the 6pm eastern slot to a nice show we will all be delighted to see! Glad that at least ION was decent enough to finish the run of Alice :)
Jude The Obscure 03-25-2008, 04:30 PM Why don't they take off that sh*t Wayans Bros. and keep Alice!!!!!!!?????
FAMILY FEUD???? GIMME A F***ING BREAK HERE.
Irene, you're repressing again.......you got to let out your feelings!
friendsfan77 03-25-2008, 04:30 PM I hope to GOD it's not Louie Anderson's version, or Karn's... that comes on more than enough times a week on GSN.
Jude The Obscure 03-25-2008, 04:31 PM Not everyone gets GSN :(
Pavan 03-25-2008, 04:33 PM It is John O'Hurley's version of Family Feud, as stated:
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2008/03/fox-cancels-jezebel-james-ion-picks-up.html
And yes, glad an hour was added. I will ask more on expansion in our interview after their upfront on May 1.
My bets on the TBD slots:
Mon-Thurs 6-7pm could be a sitcom (Jamie Foxx?) or a game show leading into Family Feud
Thurs 8-10pm (hopefully weekly sitcom blocks or maybe crime dramas, since 48 Hours is at 10pm on Thursdays)
JulieSomoski 03-25-2008, 04:37 PM Irene, I couldn't have said it better myself-LOL
What kind of a schedule is this? Quantum Leap? Family Feud? Alice is gone, Wayans Bros. lives to see another month. The biggest disaster . . . Drew Carey is moving to 10pm and only for 3 nights.. That is a horrible timeslot for me, and Quantum Leap at 9pm surely won't help it. And what do you know - Mama sticks around at 8pm.
How could they release a schedule that takes effect next week and leave all those TBD slots? I sure hope something worth watching will air at 6pm . . . my hope is for the return of The Wonder Years, Who's the Boss?, or Growing Pains. And what's up with the Thursday slots being open? Knowing ION, it'll probably be another night of the RHI movies.
I couldn't hate this schedule any more than I do.
friendsfan77 03-25-2008, 04:39 PM Wow, O'Hurley Feud comes on twice a day already in most markets in first-run syndication, and it's also coming to GSN in May. I mean, I like his version but this is gonna be a bit much.
Pavan 03-25-2008, 04:41 PM Schedule starts April 7, not next week.
icecream 03-25-2008, 04:48 PM Why don't they take off that sh*t Wayans Bros. and keep Alice!!!!!!!????? It's their stupid black initiative.
JulieSomoski 03-25-2008, 04:49 PM It's their stupid black initiative.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a Thursday Night Black Comedy Block in the TBD slots, probably filled with old UPN shows.
friendsfan77 03-25-2008, 04:53 PM IMO there are a number of shows with African-American characters that are better than TWB.
icecream 03-25-2008, 04:55 PM This schedule is promising, although it largely depends on the TBD slots. ION is finally expanding, even if it's just for an hour. And the O'Hurley Feud is better than any of their current lineup. I really hope The Wonder Years or Early Edition is at 6:00 (although Early Edition isn't likely :( ) And Thursday nights could be good if they put Dragnet and Adam-12 there. They have to announce the TBD slots soon since the new schedule starts in less than two weeks.
JulieSomoski 03-25-2008, 04:58 PM IMO there are a number of shows with African-American characters that are better than TWB.
And they have rights to so many from there Warner and Sony libraries. I just wish they would air more classic 80's and 90's sitcoms instead of these mystery dramas and reality shows. Their lineup to me just seems so random and out of place.

I don't really have a problem with them airing dramas, I like a number of them, but I agree that they should use the show libraries that they have more, and try to pick up more shows that haven't had as much exposure lately. That's one reason why I was disappointed when they said they were picking up Wayans Bros. And I wouldn't want Jamie Foxx either since that's had a nice healthy run on BET. Maybe it'll better when they finally have more hours to work with... whenever that will be. If it were a full schedule, I wouldn't mind a good mixture of sitcoms, dramas, and game shows. It'd be sorta like how USA used to be.
To be honest I'm a bit excited about Quantum Leap since I've never seen it before. I'm sad to see Alice go, but at least they aired most of the eps and will have made it to the finale before removing it.
Sad to see "Alice" go, but they got through most of its run, so it's no big deal for me. Sure, I was looking forward to going back to 1976, but that's okay. It's gotten enough exposure, I hope, for it to either pop up somewhere else or finally get season releases on DVD.
As for "Family Feud," I say eh. I'm glad that they're showing an interest in putting variety in their schedule, but they could have went another way if they wanted to put game shows on. I love FF, but I'm no fan of John O'Hurley's hosting. I would have preferred Karn's version, but like others have said, that one's already airing on GSN. Whatever.
"Quantum Leap" is an interesting pick-up. I'll tune in every now and then, I've always been interested in seeing that.
It'll be interesting to see what the TBD slots are gonna be filled with. Do I have to send ION a million bottles of wine to let them know what I'd like to see? Or perhaps a million 8's.
JulieSomoski 03-25-2008, 05:37 PM It seems they've moved away from less popular shows to more popular shows. Before they've always aired shows that haven't gotten much exposure over the years (Alice, Amen, Who's the Boss?) to shows that have been either popular or rerun to death (Wayans Bros., Family Feud, recent acquisitions Boston Legal and MASH).
Hopefully at their upfront on May 1st, we'll learn a lot about what their plans are for the future, and when we can get a nice afternoon weekday block to see more shows.

Oh my God. I had completely forgotten about "Boston Legal" and "M*A*S*H." When are they supposed to show up again? Are they still a couple of months away?
I hope to heaven above that they expand more hours by the time those two show up. Channels have a tendency to play "M*A*S*H" for hours at a time (looking at you, FX, Hallmark, and TVLand), so I wouldn't be surprised if ION runs wall-to-wall "M*A*S*H" three days a week.

Both are coming in September (unless it changes, of course). I don't want either of them coming, either. Both will obviously dominate their primetime lineup in the fall, which means they have to have an afternoon lineup for their other sitcoms. There is just no way they can have rights to all those shows, with so many on hiatus, and only 6 hours a night to air them.
ilovethe80s 03-25-2008, 05:56 PM This seems kind of disapointing I know others might agree with me. Family Feud is on a lot but I guess it's popular why can't they bring back Perfect Strangers and The Wonder Years I know a lot of people would probably like to see that.

Exactly how I feel. I'm really disappointed in this schedule.

Quantum Leap is part of their library series, it is from Universal. They used Amen from that library previously. And some Christmas episodes of Adam-12, Dragnet, Kate & Allie, McHale's Navy a few years ago.
Wayans Bros. is part of the Warner library they have.

FAMILY FEUD???? GIMME A F***ING BREAK HERE.
Well I officially have no reason to watch ION starting on April 7th-lol I'm glad because it's the network is garbage
What an odd hodge-podge of shows. Everything just seems so random and out of place. Quantum Leap is an odd lead-in to Drew Carey. Mama is an odd lead-in to Quantum. So we only have a regular schedule on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday? ODD! At least there's an extra hour being added.
As for 6-7, I'd love to see Green Acres air there again. I think it led in to Family Feud previously. It's been off the schedule for over a year now, I'd rather see it air for a while than shows that have recently aired (WTB?, Wonder Years, etc).

ION="Incredibly Odd Network"
Ireneparalegal 03-25-2008, 06:45 PM Irene, you're repressing again.......you got to let out your feelings!
Here's more:
Any why the f**K is Drew Carey being limited to three days a week? My God, I love this show, ok, no hiding that fact, but they hyped this show endlessly for what? To get viewers to watch and then take the show off two days a week? What are the name of the two idiots that run ION? It has to be two, one to work on the website and the other fool to run the tapes. They have sh*t for brains if you ask me.
VisualSensation 03-25-2008, 06:59 PM I'm surprised to see the lineup extended an hour, but it's become painfully clear that their overall strategy is to throw "stuff" at the wall and see what sticks. No rhyme or reason whatsoever. To say that their programming decisions are "random" is about the closest to positive spin you can give it.
Ireneparalegal 03-25-2008, 07:00 PM I'm surprised to see the lineup extended an hour, but it's become painfully clear that their overall strategy is to throw "stuff" at the wall and see what sticks. :yeahthat
Mr. Television 03-25-2008, 07:11 PM Love QL but it's only going to be on 3 days a week so why bother.
Pavan 03-25-2008, 07:40 PM To be fair, let's wait until we see what will air Mon-Thurs 6-7pm and Thursdays 8-10pm.
Ireneparalegal 03-25-2008, 07:43 PM Wayans Brothers replaces paid programming... I'd rather watch the infomercial.
Jude The Obscure 03-25-2008, 07:43 PM Oh well, mom will be very disappointed that Alice is being removed--that was part of our evening ritual. I'll be making sure I tape the last set of episodes and I might as well just give in and buy the Best of set. I doubt she will want to watch Family Feud. Forget about Quantum Leap! If I watch any of ION, it will be if they put anything worthwhile in the TBD slots.
Mr. Television 03-25-2008, 07:46 PM Wayans Brothers replaces paid programming... I'd rather watch the infomercial.
I agree with you Irene. TWB sucks.
Ireneparalegal 03-25-2008, 07:50 PM I agree with you Irene. TWB sucks.
It really does suck big time.
Quantum Leap already aired on Sci-Fi channel. Family Feud, unless it is with Richard Dawson, I could care less and besides all the other FF versions air on other channels, so big deal there.
I feel like we are dogs chained to a leash and ION is throwing scraps of food at us and we should be happy with what they throw at us.
TVFactFan 03-25-2008, 07:53 PM TV watching was so much better when I didn't know I had ION
Ireneparalegal 03-25-2008, 07:54 PM I'd much rather watch the MAGIC BULLET infomercial than FAMILY FEUD and the WAYANS BROS. puke:
I notice the paid programming COMES IN VERY CLEAR, not all blurry.
TVFactFan 03-25-2008, 07:55 PM family fued belongs on GSN
Scoobiedoo30 03-25-2008, 08:07 PM I hope that it is an Classic Sitcom that is coming to Ion at 5:00 pm Central Time Hour
MikeLutton 03-25-2008, 08:22 PM doubt it that be another let down 2 what ever they bring on ion screw it up with their editing
Ireneparalegal 03-25-2008, 08:24 PM I hope that it is an Classic Sitcom that is coming to Ion at 5:00 pm Central Time Hour
That crappy show WAYANS BROTHERS is airing at 5 p.m.
Mr. Television 03-25-2008, 08:25 PM That crappy show WAYANS BROTHERS is airing at 5 p.m.
I rather watch Judge Judy.
Scoobiedoo30 03-25-2008, 08:26 PM where I Live Wayne Bros will be airing at 4:00 pm and 4:30 pm Central Time.
Ireneparalegal 03-25-2008, 08:26 PM I rather watch Judge Judy.
Hey now, Judge Judy RULEZ!!!!!!
Now that is some awesome television. ;)
Scoobiedoo30 03-25-2008, 08:29 PM so To Be Announced will be airing in The 5:00 pm Central Time Hour.
FredScuttle 03-25-2008, 08:58 PM family fued belongs on GSN
They already show too much of it on there ;) (2 hours a day of Karn's
version, plus a half hour of the Dawson version, that version is ok with me)
Ireneparalegal 03-25-2008, 09:04 PM I guess GSN has no room on their schedule for any more game shows because they will start airing reality shows and sitcoms.
Scoobiedoo30 03-25-2008, 09:05 PM Family Feud airs at 4:00 pm 4:30 pm 8:00 pm and 8:30 pm on GSN
To be completely honest with you, I think I'm not all that surprised that O'Hurley's Feud is on. The advertisement opportunities are endless: "TWO ****TY GAME SHOW HOSTS!! Watch as one of them screws up Family Feud! And watch the one who currently ****s up the Price is Right DAILY as he stars in his own lame sitcom!"
Just imagine it in that somewhat seductive female voice that does their announcing.
Dean Winchester 03-26-2008, 01:37 AM wtf? Alice was the ONLY reason to watch the network? Why don't they just acquire Friends, Seinfeld and Fresh Prince already and call it a day?
friendsfan77 03-26-2008, 01:45 AM They already show too much of it on there ;) (2 hours a day of Karn's
version, plus a half hour of the Dawson version, that version is ok with me)
They've got some good shows on GSN now, but it's ridiculous how much
Karn's version airs on that channel. Yet they have no problem giving Combs the boot (again) in the middle of showing the final season.
wow, when I made my last post, I forgot all about MASH and Boston Legal coming. ohno:
Jude The Obscure 03-26-2008, 03:47 AM I'd much rather watch the MAGIC BULLET infomercial than FAMILY FEUD and the WAYANS BROS. puke:
I notice the paid programming COMES IN VERY CLEAR, not all blurry.
That informercial is very entertaining
The actual product though....:p
Cheryl Harrell 03-26-2008, 09:34 AM Why don't they take off that sh*t Wayans Bros. and keep Alice!!!!!!!?????
FAMILY FEUD???? GIMME A F***ING BREAK HERE.
I agree with ya. Keep Alice on instead of Waynans & Family Feud. Or put those on at other times like daytime. ION is getting to be known as the network that doesn't keep shows on very long. :( They took off the Monkees, Welcome Back Kotter, Partridge Family and now keep taking Alice on & off. YUCK... When Alice quits showing on ION, back to Andy Griffith on TVLAND I go...
mgsports 03-26-2008, 09:55 AM I'm glad they are expanding.
GSN also have the First Version of Family Fued and Game shows like Lingo,Whammy the new version,That's your Question,Greed and so on and also Amazing Race and Poker on Mondays.
How about bring back Shop to you Drop,Supermarket Sweep and so on Game show you use to have.
I will watch Family Fued because I don't get to watch it the new version in the daytime because I'm either at work or doing something else but I do watch the one on GSN with Richard Karn.
Paid Programs should be just be on the Informatical Channel or Online or at the As seen on TV store.
Major Dad?
Clarrisa Explains it All?
Once in Again- S. Ward's show on ABC?
Dave's World?
Family Ties that's on RTN right know?
Bob Newhart?
Coach?
Wings?
My so called Life?
clarkkent 03-26-2008, 10:20 AM I HATE this new schedule. The only show I currently watch(ed) was Wayans'. They just finished the run and I don't like them enough to rewatch them. Quantum Leap is absolute junk and so is that family feud with John. At least they could have chose the ones with Richard Dawson. What happended to all those classic sitcoms that I thought this network was supposed to show? I just hope something good is announced for the 6:00 hour or else it will be SO LONG ION for me.
Tubehead 03-26-2008, 11:26 AM I'm glade quatam leap is coming. it one of my favorite shows.i own all five season on dvd. I wish they would show the indablie hulk.
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2008, 11:29 AM Ok y'all, I had sent ION an email (not expecting a response) but I did. Of course it doesn't tell me much of what I already know:
Irene,
Periodically, ION Television adjusts its schedule to offer viewers a greater variety of programs. We apologize that “Alice will no longer be available on our current network schedule starting April 7th. We encourage you to visit our website at www.ionline.tv for the latest programming information and to learn more about the hours of entertaining shows, movies and specials available on ION Television. Thank you for the feedback. Your comments will be forwarded to our programming department.

ION Media Networks
Jude The Obscure 03-26-2008, 11:34 AM Gee if that response could have been any more generic
if they are interested in offering variety--then take off Mama and try something else.
And wow--Wayans Bros has already cycled through and it gets to stay on???
there is no justice!
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2008, 11:40 AM NO JUSTICE...NO PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, what do they consider variety? Adding shows here and there and then yanking them off? I guess the variety is seeing how many shows they can add and discontinue and how many morons continue to watch their channel.
alevin7 03-26-2008, 11:55 AM I am really excited for Quantum Leap to air on ION Television. It is also nice to see that ION will be expanding their hours of programming. It might only be an hour, but hey an hour is better than nothing right? ION is taking baby steps to becoming 24/7 instead of giant leaps, and it probably has to do with the financial situation they are in.
My motto is "SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING."
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2008, 11:57 AM The only good something is DREW CAREY SHOW, the rest sucks.
Oh dear I just had an awful thought....what if Moral Court comes back and airs from 6-7. LOL
friendsfan77 03-26-2008, 03:31 PM Oh dear I just had an awful thought....what if Moral Court comes back and airs from 6-7. LOL
I'd rather see a sitcom or drama but seriously, give me that over The Wayans Bros. any day of the week.
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2008, 04:07 PM I hear that. Any show is better than the Wayans Bros.
ilovethe80s 03-26-2008, 05:04 PM Doesn't anyone remember when ION had the voting thing on their website I wonder if it will come back I hope it will. It was to vote for shows that could air on it.
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2008, 05:09 PM They had a voting thing on their website? I guess they got rid of that quick when people asked to see what THEY wanted to see, rather than what the production team at ION wanted to see.
friendsfan77 03-26-2008, 05:25 PM I remember they had that and Alice was one of the options.

To get viewers to watch and then take the show off two days a week? What are the name of the two idiots that run ION? It has to be two, one to work on the website and the other fool to run the tapes. They have sh*t for brains if you ask me.
I leave for one moment, and right afterwards, all the people with brains start showing up at this thread. Finally, someone realizes that this schedule is nothing but ****. Irene, I know how you feel - Drew is the bright spot of the entire lineup right now. Getting shoved to 10pm, with Quantum Leap as a lead in, limited to 3 times a week, with episodes being skipped, after the promotion this network spent on this show, isn't exactly what we want right now. The other bright spot - Alice is gone. What's worse? Getting replaced by Family Feud, with O'Hurley, the worst host of the show so far (and I've only seen a few episodes). Wayans Bros. is still here, replacing infomercials. Why the **** is this show still allowed to be shown on television?
And Solomon, I'm with you. This network is more than the incredibly odd network. You can't get worse than this lineup, honestly. Just think . . . Wayans Bros. is a lead-in for god knows what. Family Feud is a lead-in for Mama, Mama is a lead-in for Quantum Leap, and Leap is a lead-in for The Drew Carey Show. Boy, if that won't get viewers to tune in . . . I might actually give those infomercials a try during the day.

I think a drama leading into a sitcom is just plain goofy. Why the hell would a drama air BEFORE a sitcom?-lol
I hope they ditch Wayans by May. Why not air Amen (again for the 4th or whatever time ) instead. They need serious help. I hope the 6-7 hour is something decent. I guess it'll be a show with the fewest similarities to Family Feud or Wayans Bros...

Reading that new schedule is like imagining a sandwich with things that just don't belong together. It's like adding HAM, PEANUT BUTTER, MARGERINE, MAYONNAISE and KETCHUP, w/TWO DIFFERENT KINDS OF BREAD.

Welcome to my world. They promoted the crap out of "Baywatch," going as far as saying "warm up your weeknights" in the commercials. And now the show's only gonna be on once a week. It'll be pretty hard to warm up my weeknights if the show is airing Saturday afternoons.

You know, I've actually seen the Magic Bullet infomericial on ION. I was amazed at how fast they cooked dinner with that thing-LOL.

And now the show's only gonna be on once a week. It'll be pretty hard to warm up my weeknights if the show is airing Saturday afternoons.
You know, I couldn't agree more. Not only that, their ads are so confusing. I was watching Drwe last night. At the bottom of the screen it was saying "Drew Carey 1 full hour weeknights at 9pm." Then, during commercial, I saw an ad that said catch Drew Carey for 2 full hours beginning at 9pm. Now their schedule is saying it's airing at 10pm for an hour. It sounds like a blind man and a couple of teenage kids are in charge of this network (I think the acquisition of Quantum Leap says it all.
They have a game show leading into a sitcom, a sitcom leading into a sci-fi drama, and a sci-fi drama leading into another sitcom. WHY????
Quantum Leap wasnt an acquisition....I think it's from the Universal content deal.
JulieSomoski 03-26-2008, 06:48 PM Quantum Leap wasnt an acquisition....I think it's from the Universal content deal.
Still, it's on the network, which is bad enough.
I don't hate the show, it's just that it's airing at 9pm, which pretty much dooms any chance of good ratings for Drew Carey at 10pm. Their schedule is nothing but a load of mumbo-jumbo.
Scoobiedoo30 03-26-2008, 06:50 PM are you saying you rating see Drew Carrey in another time period

I realize you are a hater of Drew as I am of Baywatch. ;) Yeah the hype in advertising these shows and then to reduce them to 3 days a week is pathetic. I want to email them again, but I fear another generic email.
I feel ya, I mean, it seems to be the norm for all the shows that ever appear on ION, with the exception of Mama's Family and Amen. As quickly as they throw shows on the air, they quickly remove them. Then in the case of ALICE, they add the show, remove it, then put it back on. Now tell me, we should know better than to get excited abt anything ION ever decides to put on again. We know M*A*S*H is coming in the fall, so that is obviously going to replace one of the current shows (Quantum Leap perhaps?). We should have a contest and see which show will get the ax or which show will be reduced to 3 times a week.
Pavan 03-26-2008, 08:19 PM Drew Carey was moved because it has not performed as well as they liked it to. Maybe it'll do better at 10.
I'm wanting to know what the TBD is on Thursday nights....are they going to have weekly marathons? I was thinking maybe two crime dramas to lead in to 48 Hours. Let's hope it won't be another movie..
I'd rather them air the movies they have from the content deals than those RHI movies.
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2008, 08:22 PM Drew Carey was moved because it has not performed as well as they liked it to. Maybe it'll do better at 10.
Um, I think because people's EYES HURT FROM THE BLURRY LOOK.:crazy: They can move that show around all they want, but if it looks like sh*t, who will watch it? I watch it simply because I love the show, but my eyes hurt sometimes. I seriously think people stay away from watching certain ION shows because of the bad look to it. Mama's Family seems to come in pretty good as do those damn infomercials. Drew has been either too dark or blurry, same thing with Alice.
Scoobiedoo30 03-26-2008, 08:23 PM I was just wondering what will Happen if Drew Carey does not do well at 9:00 and 9:30 pm Central Time on Ion.

I think it will be crime dramas, too. Maybe something like Rockford Files or maybe action type like A-Team. I should know by the end of this week both (Thursdays 8-10 and weekdays 6-7) TBD slots.
Scoobiedoo30 03-26-2008, 08:28 PM just between you and me Pavan I hope Ion airs The Rockford Files and The A-Team.
I think it will be crime dramas, too. Maybe something like Rockford Files or maybe action type like A-Team. I should know by the end of this week both (Thursdays 8-10 and weekdays 6-7) TBD slots.
Yeah, A-Team was on that poll they did last year.
Watch it be Diagnosis Murder and Sue Thomas F.B.Eye. I hope not, though...Rockford Files would be nice.
Do you have any guesses as to what the 6-7 would be? I'm thinking it'll be a sitcom, maybe Designing Women, Green Acres, or Growing Pains - a returning show. All three had decent evening runs. GA or GP would make a nice lead-in to Family Feud.
Pavan 03-26-2008, 08:53 PM 6-7PM could be a game show. Or maybe a sitcom, a black one maybe.
Well if it was to be a black sitcom, I hope it's something like Amen and not Jamie Foxx - lol...
Ireneparalegal 03-26-2008, 08:56 PM Well if it was to be a black sitcom, I hope it's something like Amen and not Jamie Foxx - lol...

Scoobiedoo30 03-26-2008, 08:57 PM if it is a Sitcom I hope it is Who's The Boss? at 5:00 pm Central Time and maybe Welcome Back Kotter at 5:30 pm Central Time on Ion.
Thank you. Gimme a Break would be nice, but now I know I must be smoking something if I even think ION would show that. ;)I know GAB! is Universal, but do they have access I wonder? That'd be great. I've never heard mention of it though, so I always assumed they must not have it.
227 and Benson would be nice too, but I think Program Exchange has those..
Scoobiedoo30 03-26-2008, 09:02 PM that whjat I would want 227 or Benson
Pavan 03-26-2008, 09:16 PM 227, Benson, What's Happening!!/What's Happening Now!!, and Gimme a Break! are leased to Program Exchange right now, so they wouldn't be available.

Jude The Obscure 03-27-2008, 12:37 AM I noticed that Just Shoot Me was licensed to Program Exchange--maybe that explains why TV Land picked it up--CHEAP!

Probably.
GameShowFan1986 03-27-2008, 03:46 AM I guess GSN has no room on their schedule for any more game shows because they will start airing reality shows and sitcoms.
In 2004, GSN started running reality shows like The Mole, Star Search with Arensio Hall and The Amazing Race. GSN also does GSN originals like Whammy, Lingo and such. GSN will never air sitcoms....
Cheryl Harrell 03-27-2008, 04:37 AM I'd like to see Gimme a Break, Amen & Benson on there. Thank God they are playing Mamas Family & Drew Carey. That & Nick At Nite when they show the sitcoms are all thats on when TVLAND is showing movies & that reality show mess like the High School Reunion junk. Unless TCM is playing a good old movie. I hope ION will show more older shows...
They'd probably have access to Charles in Charge and The Munsters (both Universal) and The Addams Family (Warner) if they weren't already 'loaned' to TPE...
chris31989 03-27-2008, 08:19 AM First of all, ION is just another TVLand that can't survive without the ratings system. It's old by now. Second of all, it's time to give up on this channel, people. It never will be what we want it to be anyway, and I don't think ION wants to be another TVLand. Now, RTN on the other hand, is aiming at being a better TVLand and once more affiliates are added and it gets more and more exposure, that network will be something to look at. And no one will complain as much because local affiliates are in charge of the schedule and no two affiliates are alike.
I'm sorry if that seemed harsh, but the fact of the matter is that ION is not a network to keep tabs on because it has no desire to compete with TVLand. I may be wrong, but it's evident. What ION needs to do is let it's affiliates be able to program the 12AM-5PM time frame with their own programs. That would be a great idea.
wkomorow 03-27-2008, 10:46 AM Can someone explain the Mama's Family phenomenon to me. I enjoy the show and ocassionally watch it, but it has been over-runned. It has a limited number of episodes. TBS aired 2 episodes every weekday for years, now ION is doing the same thing. What is its staying power?
Pavan 03-27-2008, 11:35 AM Addams Family is MGM, but yes PE has leased it.
Scoobiedoo30 03-27-2008, 11:40 AM if my memory is correct TV Land Switched Benson for Addams Family.

I was being sarcastic. ;)
Although, I won't turn my back on that sarcastic comment since it seems many networks are now straying from what they originally were. MTV was all abt music videos, where is the music now? At 4 a.m. in the morning. VH-1 was all abt other music videos that MTV didn't air. Now, they air reality shows. A&E, I totally forgot what that channel USED TO AIR, but now they air all kinds of crazy programming (some I like, others I don't). There is always a possibility of GSN leaving its format.

We probably need to go to the MAMA'S FAMILY board and ask them. I used to LOVE Mama's Family to death when it aired originally. I was hooked. In syndication I may have seen it all the way through ONCE. Never again. There is only one episode I look forward to watching now, but that's it.
I think it has to do with the Carol Burnett connection, but like I said, I guess someone needs to make a thread there on MF board and ask WHAT MAKES MAMA FAMILY SUCH A STAYING POWER ON TELEVISION?
JulieSomoski 03-27-2008, 12:48 PM Um, I think because people's EYES HURT FROM THE BLURRY LOOK.:crazy: They can move that show around all they want, but if it looks like sh*t, who will watch it? The blurriness is horrible, especially for Alice and Drew. I have never seen either of those shows look as bad as they do on ION. Not only that, it's also their advertising. They're advertising Drew as airing for an hour at 9pm, 2 hours at 9pm, now an hour at 10pm . . . people don't know when to watch.
Pavan, do you know how badly Drew's been doing at 9pm? You said before it was doing pretty well . . . it must have dropped off since then.
Are you all sure it's not just your affiliates' video quality that looks bad? Many of the affiliates are O&O low-end, low-power once-struggling stations that Mr. Paxson bought very cheap when the network started 10 or 11 years ago. They don't give their affiliates and their facilities that good of attention, it seems. The video on the DirecTV feed always looked presentable, IMO. Mama's Family, Green Acres, Growing Pains, and WTB? usually looked very good. The Wonder Years looked a little soft but not that bad.
Scoobiedoo30 03-27-2008, 01:00 PM I was just wondering when was the last time The Wonder Year's was on Ion

No, I get the National Feed, and the video looks horrible on every single show. I agree with you, The Wonder Years has so far been the worst. But Drew Carey and Alice aren't far behind.

There are times when the programs are presentable, they look alright, but there are other times when it is horrible. The first day Drew aired, it was BAD!!!!! So bad, I made a thread abt it and I got some responses saying the same thing.
Like I said, funny the infomercials always seem to look GREAT.

Am I the only one who hasn't seen the so-called blurriness on ION? The only time I had problems with their video quality was when they originally showed "Charlie's Angels." The screen was a little off-center, but I think they fixed that by the time the show came back again.

JulieSomoski 03-27-2008, 01:35 PM I wonder if it could be Who's The Boss?
My guess is Amen again, because it would lead better out of Wayans than Who's the Boss?. But, I just checked ION's site, and still has listed Who's the Boss? under their shows, which could be a good sign it's coming back soon. It could really be anything at this point.
Scoobiedoo30 03-27-2008, 01:36 PM l would like to see Welcome Back Kotter

Knowing ION, they'll probably bring back Doc just for Billy Ray Cyrus (what success????).
Didn't Green Acres air before Family Feud before? If so, that would be a good guess (I still think it's too old for what they're going for, though.) Growing Pains would also be another good guess. When are they going to annouce it?

Billy Ray has a hit show on Disney Channel called HANNAH MONTANA. ;) That show is a huge hit, so I can see some channel picking up DOC just for the fact that Billy Ray is in it. I heard that show did great as far as ratings are concered. I never saw it.

it was PAX highest rated original series often scoring ratings in 2.1-2.3 range nationally. (Shoot the CW is lucky if some of its shows manage that!). CMT at one time did air some reruns of Doc.

With all the hodgepodge they have now, my guess is the return of Diagnosis Murder. That would just be great - Wayans leading into Murder, Murder leading into Feud. That'll for sure put them over the top.
What's your guess for the Thursday TBA block? There's a lot of things they could still do - crime dramas like said before (which wouldn't be bad, if they picked the right shows), their originals, or even a sitcom block )maybe airing all the shows that are on "hiatus".
VisualSensation 03-27-2008, 06:55 PM I'm surprised no one has commented on the new Quantum Leap promo that started last night. It shows the Quantum Leap guy (sorry, I don't remember his name) morphing into Mimi from the Drew Carrey show. You know, the more I think about the Thursday thing, I'm starting to wonder if they'll air a movie or something. They have those movies just sitting there collecting dust from Universal/Warner/Sony. I don't think they've aired any of those since they started airing those RHI miniseries and movies...yuck!! I'd much rather see the Uni/WB/Sony ones. Or maybe like we said, some crime dramas leading in to 48 Hours. Maybe Charlie's Angels, Rockford Files, Kung Fu, A-Team...they have quite a few.
I will announce the 6-7PM show on the blog in a few. Sorry for the delay today. Thanks Pav. I'm hoping for something good..
Ireneparalegal 03-27-2008, 07:58 PM Diagnosis Murder is the show that WILL NEVER DIE. It never goes away.
Pavan 03-27-2008, 08:05 PM It will go up in a few, but it is NOT a former PAX show. They are bringing in a new sitcom from a library deal. So discuss this while I write.
Hmmm....that cancels DM, Amen, Green Acres, Growing Pains, etc.
Silver Spoons? Jamie Foxx? Bewitched? Kate and Allie? Just a few guesses...McHale's Navy? Barney Miller? LOL
Pavan 03-27-2008, 08:15 PM And the show is ...

OHHHHHHH F**K.
YUCK!!!!!! Steve Harvey? What a disappointment. They have so many good shows and they're throwing what at us? Wayans Bros, Steve Harvey, Family Feud. Seriously, can't they do better? They have many top-notch shows and the choices they seem to be making are just odd.
To quote Solomon...."ION - Incredibly Odd Network!"
TVFactFan 03-27-2008, 08:20 PM Well that's better choice than AMEN, I'm not complaining
Pavan 03-27-2008, 08:34 PM Certainly disappointing, but thank god it isn't any PAX stuff (Doc, Sue Thomas) or Diagnosis Murder.
The Thursday stuff better be something good. Wish I could have gave you all better news for 6-7pm.
Ireneparalegal 03-27-2008, 08:36 PM I tell ya, I'd prefer the paid programming at this point.
Seriously.
I just don't get what's WRONG with them. Do they really expect this show to bring in any ratings? The whole line-up is just awful. I don't have any problem with them having an African-American initiative, but should they really be taking up two hours out of a five hour schedule for it? Maybe if the network was a 24 hour or even 12 hour network, but not in the shape they're in now.
They apparently don't realize their potential. I've never been as disappointed in a network as I have been in ION..
TVFactFan 03-27-2008, 08:44 PM I tell ya, I'd prefer the paid programming at this point.
Seriously.
I won't be able to watch anyway because from 6pm to 7pm I'm watching ESPN
ilovethe80s 03-27-2008, 08:45 PM It seems like they might get all of the former WB/UPN shows

My sentiments exactly...minus the curse words.
Like I said on the other thread, once a channel finishes using up one show, they give it to another show to air. "Here ION, we're done airing this sh*t." Just like Family Matters airing on N@N. It's been airing forever on ABCFamily, so seeing it on another channel means NOTHING. I WANT TO SEE SOMETHING THAT HASN'T BEEN SEEN IN A LONG TIME PEOPLE!!!!
Jude The Obscure 03-27-2008, 08:47 PM I haven't noticed any new promos--course when Mama is finished, I usually turn the channel (sorry, Irene, not a fan of the Drew Carey Show)
Ireneparalegal 03-27-2008, 08:49 PM Sorry, Irene, not a fan of the Drew Carey Show

and before ABC Family, it was reran to death on TBS (and local broadcast syndication).
Pavan 03-27-2008, 08:51 PM Ratings is the key here. What performs well historically in syndication will air.
Ireneparalegal 03-27-2008, 08:55 PM Well, when the same old shows air over and over again, some people just watch them because THERE IS NOTHING ELSE NEW TO WATCH. ohno: I bet if GIMME A BREAK or some other 80's show that hasn't been aired to death were to be aired, viewers would drop those reruns in a heartbeat.
Viewers watch what is on basically. If someone fed you the same dinner over and over and over again without any variety, you get used to that or don't eat at all.

Wasn't this show most recently on TBS, where they reran it for 2-3 years in an afternoon slot, which puzzled the heck as how that managed to attract any kind of good ratings?? What about Hanging with Mr. Cooper? That's from Warner--sheesh, Louise. For this, Alice gets pulled??
ilovethe80s 03-27-2008, 08:57 PM I think Steve Harvey Show is still on TBS before Saved by the Bell
They seem to be getting worse and worse. Has their strategy changed or something? At first we were getting shows like Charlie's Angels, Green Acres, The Monkees, The Partridge Family, Welcome Back Kotter, Amen, The Wonder Years, Who's the Boss?, Growing Pains, and so on - stuff that hadn't aired so much. Now we're getting shows like Steve Harvey, The Wayans Bros., Baywatch, 48 Hours, Family Feud, Drew Carey - and these oddly-formed schedules.
Jude The Obscure 03-27-2008, 08:58 PM :faint:
Don't worry--I love him on Price :D
And I can take the sitcom in very limited doses, but ION's constant "Meet the Drew Crew" promos drive me up the wall

Cable networks have tried shows that did not do well historically in syndication recently...Family Ties, Evening Shade, Hogan Family, and all sadly bombed and were pulled within a week or two or less. Alice did OK though, but it didn't light it up as Mama's Family or even Drew Carey. TV Land and Nick at Nite tried Murphy Brown, which was a syndication bomb on locals, and it also didn't do so well. So I can see the point in playing it safe with shows like Family Matters, Fresh Prince. Steve Harvey actually did do well on TBS in the afternoons and Wayans Bros. was actually doing well on local channels.
Head of the Class and Welcome Back Kotter were also shows that did not do well on cable, so don't think they'll be brought in.

I wonder if it will drop in the ratings when it moves to 10PM like WTB? did.
Pavan 03-27-2008, 09:05 PM I don't have numbers for Drew, but it was dropping from Mama's Family and in its second episode at 9:30 I believe...not a good sign, but it must have did a bit good enough to remain on the line-up. The flow of this new schedule is just odd, though. All the shows they are airing though have been hits on other channels in syndication, except Quantum Leap, which they are putting it in primetime??

No one wants to take risks--I find that SAD. Hogan Family was not even given a decent shot on ABC Family (honestly what kind of ratings do you expect at 7am??) However--let's look in the future, say 10 years from now--will any of these shows become "evergreens"? Wayans? pulllllllleeze.
Thank Goodness RTN is willing to allow old shows a chance--my local RTN has been playing Family Ties since it went on the air.

And they were pulled within ONE OR TWO WEEKS? Is that seriously enough time to allow any show enough time to get used to by viewers? Even new shows get better air time before they are pulled by networks. I can't believe a show is given only a week's time to show some decent ratings. That is effing ridiculous.
Pavan 03-27-2008, 09:33 PM They aired 5-days a week, the network shows air once a week. If it really bombed, I would have pulled them myself if I were in charge, too, I bet. Hogan Family was 12 noon...it came back at 7am and was pulled then too.
Ireneparalegal 03-27-2008, 09:36 PM How long was Hogan family on the schedule for each of those hours?
Pavan 03-27-2008, 09:42 PM It only lasted a week at 12 noon in April 2006 and it lasted a month at 7am in Sept/Oct. 2006:
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2006/04/breaking-news-hogan-family-removed.html
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2006/10/hogan-family-gone-again-from-abc.html
Ireneparalegal 03-27-2008, 09:45 PM A week at noon is hardly a good time slot. Seriously, people work. And at 7 a.m., who the hell will watch tv at that hour? People are either sleeping, getting ready for work or have left home by then. Hey, I have an idea, why not air that show at 5 p.m. or later? Hmmmm....
Pavan 03-27-2008, 09:48 PM They compare ratings from the previous time slot holder. For example, Full House was airing 12-1pm and it did three times better. In fact, Hogan Family pulled the rest of the afternoon line-up down that week. If Full House was doing excellent 12-1pm, when people are at work and kids are in school, then imagine how it must have been doing 3-4pm?
Same goes for 7-8am, I forgot what was airing then, but it might have been Family Matters. 7-8am is a good slot for kids, but I guess Hogan Family is not what they would watch. Read that first link I gave you about the poor planning.
Ireneparalegal 03-27-2008, 09:53 PM I read that, thank you.
It is poor planning indeed. I mean Hogan Family and Full House are two totally different kinds of show. For some reason shows like Full House, The Cosby Show, Roseanne, can work in various timeslots. They have a following. I tend to watch Roseanne and TCS regardless of the time it is on, but it also depends what else may be airing that I like.
Hogan Family, Evening Shade and shows from that particular era that hit a special crowd won't have the huge following like the shows I mentioned above, but still, there are people who will watch it. They need a better time slot and TIME TO SHOW THEY GENERATE VIEWERS.
Pavan 03-27-2008, 10:03 PM Yeah, but a morning (9am before 700 Club is perfect) or late night slot would do for Hogan Family on ABC Family. Between 3-11PM is a no no because that is a pressure slot for ABC Family.
Ireneparalegal 03-27-2008, 10:08 PM I just think in this day and age of internet where a television channel has a website, people voice their wants, complaints and requests, there is no way for a station to NOT know what will work and what won't. ION had a section on their website where people could vote to see what they wanted ION to air. So why don't they heed what people ask for?
I realize I seem to be venting at you Pav. I am not. I am just so discouraged with ION and what they are doing now makes me think they don't have the viewers in mind when they put shows on and yank them off. Put them on at one hour, hype the hell out of it, then they move it around to another time, etc. It is just so annoying and I am frustrated. Not just ION either but most of the channels that air the same ol' crap.
Pav, why is ION becoming so much more different than when they started? Like I mentioned earlier, until late last year, we were getting a pretty good mix of older shows that hadn't seen so much exposure and probably wouldn't be picked up by a major network (like WTB?, Mama's Family, Wonder Years, Perfect Strangers, Amen, Alice, Charlie's Angels, Green Acres, Growing Pains, Kung Fu, even Designing Women, Monkees, Partridge Family, etc). Now since earlier this year we're getting a bunch of 90s-present programming that's pretty mainstream (Baywatch, Drew Carey, 48 Hours, Family Feud, Steve Harvey, Wayans Bros., M*A*S*H, Boston Legal, etc)....what gives? The April schedule makes no sense and is just a hodge-podge. Why the sudden shift in focus? Every month gets worse and worse.
Sorry to be a pest, but I'm just trying to get a clear view on what to expect from them. I'm not trying to take it out on you, but it's just so frusturating I need to vent, lol.

Not to mention THF was never promoted on the air. And I especially remember that time when it aired in April, there was no promotion for it period, all they did was whore Full House and its time change.
I can't wait until I get digital so I can get RTN.

I'm one of those rare people who have RTN on an actual O-T-A station--not a digital subchannel of a network affiliate. Course I see it through cable.
The only programming choice that puzzles me on RTN are reruns of Lifestyle of the Rich & Famous! WTF??
noveel 03-27-2008, 11:30 PM I'm sorry if that seemed harsh, but the fact of the matter is that ION is not a network to keep tabs on because it has no desire to compete with TVLand. I may be wrong, but it's evident. What ION needs to do is let it's affiliates be able to program the 12AM-5PM time frame with their own programs. That would be a great idea.
They'd probably just show infomercials.
RocktheBeat81 03-27-2008, 11:42 PM I think it's great they're adding African American shows to their line-up, but the problem I think you have with it is it is too current. I doubt you wouldn't have a problem with African American shows if it were from the 60's to 80's. Would you agree?
friendsfan77 03-27-2008, 11:51 PM I agree, Gimme A Break would be an awesome addition. I mean, seriously, talk about a good show that hardly gets any exposure these days. I actually like The Steve Harvey Show, but I don't want that on ION. That's already on TBS and local stations. I hate how shows either get too much exposure or hardly none.
Networks need to know that just because fans watch popular shows in reruns, that doesn't mean that that's ALL they want to see. And I'm tired of the overexposure. I have no more hopes for ION.
Mr. Television 03-28-2008, 12:09 AM Steve Harvey is a lot better than TWB...although I don't watch the show much. But this does prove that Ion is no longer in the classic tv business. They're starting to sell out too only quicker than most other networks do. Luckily my channel is snowy so I can't see them good anyway.

Without cable, the ION station here comes in fuzzy as hell and looks like complete garbage. If you live south of Atlanta, you wouldn't get it at all without a cable or satellite provider.

There are a lot of us who don't get TV One
JulieSomoski 03-28-2008, 12:56 PM ION changed from classic tv to current tv faster than TVland went from classic tv to original programming.
ION could have been a great channel for classic 70's and 80's programming. Now all they are is a channel for crap TV that no one cares to watch. Wayans Bros, Steve Harvey (don't even get me started on that), Family Feud, Quantum Leap - you can't get much more disappointing than that. The only highlight of their schedule is Drew Carey at 10pm for 3 nights a week.
I really don't mind the whole African American initiative, but why does it have to be all UPN and WB shows. There are so many great ones out there that they have rights to from the 80's, why not air those? Isn't Steve Harvey already airing on TBS? Isn't that enough? Who honestly in their right will be watching ION from 5pm-7pm?

DM wasn't that bad, I guess. At least the schedule made a little more sense.
You know, I'm not very happy with a lot of their programming decisions, but I do acknowledge that there are people who probably are excited to watch the shows that are coming to the channel. "The Wayans Bros." and "The Steve Harvey Show" both had pretty decent runs, especially considering all of the one-year wonders The WB put on the air throughout the years, so I think it's silly to think that these shows will automatically get horrible ratings or that people won't watch them.
JulieSomoski 03-28-2008, 01:46 PM Don't forget the RHI Miniseries and 48 Hours, LOL. That was a great schedule. One thing about ION in the past - they've always had smart schedules. They always had shows that flowed well and out of each other. A good example was the schedule from July-September 2008:
6pm Amen
7:00 Designing Women
8:00 Mama's Family
9:00 Who's the Boss?
10:00 The Wonder Years
All those shows flowed so well with each other. Now look at their schedule. The only 2 shows that have a chance of doing well when paired up are Wayans and Harvey.
JulieSomoski 03-28-2008, 01:51 PM Okay, this is just odd. I just do not get this network at all. They finally have their new schedule posted on their site beginning Apirl 8th. I noticed for The Drew Carey Show, on Monday they're airing the season 5 finale, then they're starting over with the Pilot, and for the rest of the week is season 1 episodes. Why would they do that? Why wouldn't they just continue with season 6? I don't want to watch season 1 over again, I want to see the rest of the episodes from season 6.
According to ionline.TV, Thursday 8-10 is still TBA. Looks like it's going to be 2 hours, whatever it is - I'm assuming a movie from Sony/Warner/Uni?

Exactly. They've already aired season 1, plus many people own it on DVD . . . a perfect way to get low ratings.

What are you hoping it'll be, Pavan? A crime block wouldn't be bad, but I'd rather something like that on the weekends (wouldn't that make an awesome weekend afternoon?).
I'm hoping for a nice sitcom block, maybe with 4 shows that have been taken off the lineup recently.
Scoobiedoo30 03-29-2008, 12:29 PM whAt 4 Sitcoms would you like to see
Pavan 03-29-2008, 01:25 PM I personally would like a sitcom theme week each week, with four different shows each week with a common theme. This way shows that don't air from their libraries can be showcased. They could do the same for crime dramas.
Shows like Perfect Strangers, Growing Pains, Silver Spoons, Facts of Life, A-Team, Knight Rider, Charlie's Angels, etc.
Exactly. They've already aired season 1, plus many people own it on DVD . . . a perfect way to get low ratings.According to Wikipedia, the show had 9 seasons....why would they be stopping at season 6? Why stop 2/3 of the way through the series?
ION seems to want to make watching a show as difficult as possible unless it's one of their 'babies' (Mama, Diagnosis Murder, originals).
Pavan 03-29-2008, 01:27 PM I think they want to "relaunch" Drew in its new timeslot.
Scoobiedoo30 03-29-2008, 01:43 PM Pavan I fell the same way I would like to see a Marathron of 4 Diffrent Show's as well
JulieSomoski 03-29-2008, 01:50 PM I think they want to "relaunch" Drew in its new timeslot.
That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What network launches a show, switches timeslots, then relaunches it? Fans who watch the show don't want to watch the first 5 seasons over again, we want to see the last 4 seasons before that!
JulieSomoski 03-29-2008, 01:54 PM I personally would like a sitcom theme week each week, with four different shows each week with a common theme. This way shows that don't air from their libraries can be showcased. They could do the same for crime dramas.
Shows like Perfect Strangers, Growing Pains, Silver Spoons, Facts of Life, A-Team, Knight Rider, Charlie's Angels, etc.
That's actually not a bad idea. But, with only 4 episodes, that doesn't give you much variety for a "theme" week. I would personally just like to see an episode each of The Wonder Years, Who's the Boss?, Growing Pains, and another same-type show (possibly Facts of Life or Silver Spoons) in those slots, just so we get to see them once a week rather than not at all.
If it was to be mystery/crime shows, maybe more action-based shows like Miami Vice and Knight Rider would be possible? It would certainly give the schedule a boost, even though I don't care for either..
Or maybe they could do crime/mystery movies to lead in to 48 Hours.
Pavan 03-29-2008, 02:33 PM TV Land used to weekly "Box Sets" which featured a common theme and that was two-hours also. So it could work for ION, too.
There are so many similar sitcom episodes. Running from the FBI, fake gurus, etc. We did a blog story on similar sitcom plots before.
Scoobiedoo30 03-29-2008, 02:37 PM I remember that it aired Saturday and Sunday's from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Weekends.

Man I loved that, there were some good episodes and shows out of it. Too bad they don't do that anymore.

Let's not forget (pun intended) the good old amnesia plot!
Jude The Obscure 03-29-2008, 05:17 PM That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What network launches a show, switches timeslots, then relaunches it? Fans who watch the show don't want to watch the first 5 seasons over again, we want to see the last 4 seasons before that!
Reminds me when Soapnet did that to Ryan's Hope. They were about halfway into the soap's run, when they took it off, then relaunch and started from episode 1. Boy were fans pissed!!!!

I've heard they did it more than once as well. I was really mixed about it a few months ago, part of me was mad since two of the storylines were not completed (one of them had just begun while another one was progressing very well), and I wanted to see Marg Helgenberger, Grant Show, Tichina Arnold, and Yasmine Bleeth play their respective roles. Though part of me was a bit excited since this is my first time seeing 1975-early 1981 episodes. They seem to always start over right after Christmas 1981.
Pavan, one last question....how do you think they got to expand to the 5PM hour? Did their paid programming contract run out, or did they get out of it somehow? I wonder if they had the option of expanding to more hours but decided not to.
Their next expansion should be 11PM-12AM...a lot people are still watching TV during that time. 5PM-12AM wouldn't be that bad. Maybe they're doing it slowly...an hour every month or two wouldn't be that bad. M*A*S*H would be a good show to air from 11-12 come fall and maybe Boston Legal leading in from 10-11.

The first expansion should have been 11pm instead of 5pm. It makes no sense to me to start at 5 and end at 11.
MASH will probably be 9pm with Boston Legal at 10pm, or the other way around. One problem with BL is that it airs on ABC Tuesdays at 10pm (unless they change it for next season). That's months away, though. Let's just hope they've expanded more by then.

I don't understand the reason behind doing that. What makes me even more mad is that when they brought Alice back after its "hiatus" they started airing from where they left off. Al lthey do is move Drew to a new timeslot and they start from the beginning. I'd really like to know the clowns that are in charge of this network.
mgsports 03-29-2008, 08:57 PM Boston Legal can be on at the same time.
Paid Programs can be from Midnight to 6am.
Mr. Television 03-29-2008, 09:02 PM ION=Incredibly Odd Network.... as Solomon says....
I think ION ends at the time they end at because that's when primetime on the big 3 networks ends. Of course, I highly doubt that they're actually competing with the big 3, but since ION's a broadcast network, that might be part of their reasoning.
If they must air crime dramas once a week (not enough for me, just sayin...), it'd be kickass to have them on Saturday afternoons. TVLand used to air "The Rookies" are 1PM on Saturdays, and I absolutely loved it. Hallmark used to air their old crime drama block on Sunday afternoons and that was great as well.
dragonlight 03-30-2008, 01:43 PM Will ION Television acquire the rights to air reruns of Star Trek: The Next Generation? When I last saw that show, it was on Spike TV.
JulieSomoski 03-30-2008, 02:07 PM Well, according to their schedule, the Thursday TBA slot is a movie - "Chisum", with 48 Hours airing after it at 10pm. I guess that's your TBA slot afterall, just another movie.

GSN also recently did the same thing with Bob Eubanks' version of Card Sharks. After it had been off the schedule for a few months, instead of picking up from where they left off in January 1987, they started back from episode one from 1986. And it's also just on weekends.

Well at least it's a movie from the library and not another RHI movie night!

It's a MAJOR letdown. Just think of the nice sitcom block, drime block, classic drama, or even a new show we could have had there. What do we get instead of those? Another movie.
Well .......... now that the April schedule is out, anyone care to speculate about May? LOL
I can see Wayans Bros., Quantum Leap, and/or Drew Carey leaving. My gut feeling is that Drew Carey just isn't doing as well as they're wanting because it's been reduced to 3 nights a week. Wayans is already through a cycle and I really wonder how it performs. Quantum Leap....just an odd show to air. Since it's not been seen in syndication recently, who knows how it would do. One would wonder if it'll be like a Baywatch or Perfect Strangers.
I guess time will tell.
Ireneparalegal 03-31-2008, 05:00 PM Unlike Mama's Family, all the shows that are on ION will eventually get kicked to the curb.
JulieSomoski 04-01-2008, 03:34 PM Just because Drew is down to 3 nights a week now, that doesn't mean it completely combed - Mama's Family, their most popular show, is also down to 3 nights a week.
For May, if any changes, My guess is Quantum Leap will join Baywatch Saturdays's at 5pm, with Baywatch staying at 6pm. By moving Baywatch, they could be starting a nice Saturday afternoon drama block. My guess is Drew will either stay at 10pm, or move to an earlier slot on the schedule. Not sure about Wayans Bros and Steve Harvey . . . WB is obviously doing okay (god help us) and SH might do well out of WB.
But, isn't this a little too early to be talking about May? And also, are the movies the regular change on Thursday nights, or is Chisum just for next week? Let's hope it isn't regular.
VisualSensation 04-01-2008, 07:29 PM I was excited to see Drew Carrey was taking the Baywatch slot this week, but last night Ion aired episodes that were out of order (already shown) in that slot, instead of a continuation of the previous episodes. It wouldn't be so bad, if they weren't also planning to start from the beginning next week.
It seems like they go out of their way to turn people off of their network.

They should at least give us ep isodes in order at 10pm, too, so we can get through some of season 6 before starting over with season 1 next week. The 9pm episodes are in order (season 5), and it seems the 10pm episodes are various season 1-4 episodes.

yankeesfan82 04-02-2008, 10:48 PM ZAP2IT.COM has a movie called "Chisum" listed for 8PM-10PM on Thursday the 10th on WHPX/26 our local ION Station.
Cheryl Harrell 04-03-2008, 03:58 AM I saw somewhere about that Chisum movie being on ION. So it may be on the satellite dish version of it...
Pavan 04-03-2008, 10:48 AM Thursday nights will be ION Movie Night, with movies NOT from RHI. Movies from Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures are among the movies. Chisum is on April 10, The NeverEnding Story (1984) is on April 17 and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975) is on April 24, as of now.
EDIT: See first post for the April Thursday movie schedule.
Pavan 04-03-2008, 02:31 PM ION Television Announces Expanded Programming Schedule
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- ION Media Networks, Inc. today announced an expanded entertainment schedule on ION Television beginning April 7th. Three new series – “The Steve Harvey Show,” “Family Feud” and “Quantum Leap” – along with a selection of blockbuster films will join the lineup, extending the schedule by an additional hour of entertainment programming from 5 to 6 p.m.
“These programming additions create a fun and diverse summer schedule, on a path to positioning the network for broad audiences this fall,” said Brandon Burgess, Chairman and CEO, ION Media Networks. “We’re committed to upgrading and expanding our lineup as part of our promise to clients and distributors to create a network with a leading audience value proposition.”
New to ION Television’s schedule will be the hit sitcom, “The Steve Harvey Show,” from Sony Pictures Television. In this multiple NAACP Image Award-winning series, comedian and nationally-syndicated radio talk show host Steve Harvey stars as Steve Hightower, a music teacher at a large, diverse Chicago high school. With his sidekick, Cedric (Cedric the Entertainer), Steve deals with hilarious complications involving his students and his boss, Regina (Wendy Raquel Robinson).
For fast, fun game show action, ION Television will debut the 2006-2007 season of “Family Feud,” hosted by one of People Magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive,” John O’Hurley, best known for originating the role of J. Peterman on “Seinfeld” and for his first season stint on “Dancing with the Stars.” “Family Feud” pits two families against each other in a contest to name the most popular responses to survey questions posed to 100 people. The show was acquired from Fremantle Media North America.
ION Television’s lineup will add science fiction, drama and action with “Quantum Leap,” a five-time Emmy Award and two-time Golden Globe Award-winning program that appeals to a wide range of viewers. The humorous, yet often poignant plot involves scientist Sam Beckett, played by Scott Bakula, leaping from one point in time to another, righting wrongs and fixing people’s problems. ION Television has obtained all 96 episodes of the hit show from NBC Universal.
On Thursday nights, powered by deals with studios such as Warner Bros, ION Television will launch “Total Theatre Thursday” over the summer, an array of hit motion pictures like “Blade Runner,” “Dirty Harry,” “Risky Business” and “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” These blockbuster Hollywood movies feature some of the biggest stars of the industry, including Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford and Jack Nicholson.
With the addition of these three new series and big screen favorites, beginning April 7th, ION Television’s lineup will be: “The Wayans Brothers” from 5 to 6 p.m. Mon-Fri, “The Steve Harvey Show” from 6 to 7 p.m. Mon-Fri, “Family Feud” from 7 to 8 p.m. Mon-Thurs, “Mama's Family” from 8 to 9 p.m. Mon-Wed, “Quantum Leap” from 9 to 10 p.m. Mon-Wed, “The Drew Carey Show” from 10 to 11 p.m. Mon-Wed and ”Total Theatre Thursday” from 8 to 11 p.m. Thursdays. “Baywatch” will now be seen at 6 to 7 p.m. on Saturdays.
JulieSomoski 04-03-2008, 03:29 PM I don't mind the idea of a movie eack week, but why couldn't it be on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, maybe from 5pm-7pm on weekends? I don't like the fact that it takes up 2 hours every Thursday night.

Pavan 04-23-2008, 01:53 AM It looks like the new primetime 8-11pm line-up is not doing too well. I don't have exact numbers for the shows, but maybe Quantum Leap is why. Here is my proof...last few weeks of ION's primetime averages:
Primetime Averages for ION
Week of March 17-23: 540,000 total viewers, 0.4/1 HH rating/share
Week of March 24-30: 520,000 total viewers, 0.3/1 HH rating/share
Week of March 31-April 6: 510,000 total viewers, 0.4/1 HH rating/share
Week of April 7-13: 550,000 total viewers, 0.4/1 HH rating/share
Week of April 14-20: 400,000 total viewers, 0.3/0 HH rating/share
So, it had been consistent around 500,000-550,000 viewers in primetime, but this last week it went down to 400,000...a drastic drop.
Scoobiedoo30 04-23-2008, 01:55 AM do you think because of The Low rating they could go back to the old schedule

Well, dropping Alice wasn't smart for one thing and then of course, doing the old bait and switch for Baywatch probably didn't help either.
