Solomon, I don't think you understand what the show Dancing with the Stars is about. It is exactly about the stars. The dances are the same each season but the people who are performing them are NOT. It is a competition show, so why would the dances have to change? Rules are rules.

I agree about TV Guide. It is terrible now. Don't watch Idol, so can't comment on Abdul...but from the clips I see on late night talk shows...she has emotional issues.

So what is so intriguing about watching Jason Taylor do the same thing that Clyde Drexeler and Emmit Smith already did?-lol Can't believe this show is not played out yet

That is ballroom dancing Solomon. The same dances are done in any ballroom dancing championship. That is what DWTS is modeled after, those competitions. You can't change the dances. You can't suddenly throw in disco (such as the latin hustle) or any other style of dance. As a matter of fact, if you have ever paid attention to the oldest judge, he will criticize the dancers sometimes when they interject some dance move or some style of dancing that is NOT BALLROOM DANCING. If the dancers don't stick with the style of ballroom dancing such as the Cha Cha, their scores will suffer.

I am such a fan of the show and know the style of dances so well that I now notice the errors the dancers (usually the celeb) makes when they do something they aren't supposed to or they mess up on their footwork.

The purpose of the competition is to see who can master all the dances the way they are supposed to be done.

I agree that Dancing with the stars is pure crap. Are these people even "stars" who do it? It still gets good ratings, but the ratings are down for it, which is good. It's a total chick show Solomon, so why even watch it?

I don't get the deal with Dancing With The Stars is either.

Have you seen Paula's recent music video? You can tell the women is heavily medicated when they show her looking at the camera, she doesn't look right.

rofl, I know. There might be two somewhat famous people each season. Most time they get also-rans and people who were on a show with someone famous or related to someone famous (Drew Lachey anyone? Yea, he was in 98 Degrees with his brother, but nobody would remember him outside of diehard boyband fans if not for his big bro). I remember when John O'Hurley really milked his involvement for the first season because that's all he has to milk outside of the fact he was in a dozen or so Seinfeld episodes, and lets face it, Seinfeld's no longer recent.

I'd rather watch the celebs on DWTS then a bunch of wannabe pop stars on American Idol who get to the top and then two years later, their record company dumps them. Talk abt being a has been. That show is what needs to be taken off the air. So in a way, I agree, Paula needs to be dumped, with the whole show. ;)

She is definitely on something and I can't put my finger on it. I wonder if she is taking so many painkillers to deal with her chronic pain a la Jeff Conaway.

Still, it is obvious her slurred speech and her eyes looking like she is not there, signal something is not right.

I don't watch AI anymore, but when I have seen Paula being interviewed or they show her on some show, she is not the same perky Paula from back in the 80's.

So you're telling me you never heard of stars like Steve Guttenberg, Priscilla Presley, Monica Seles?

And the ratings are "down" you say? Compare this year's premiere to the fall's premiere:

Monday, March 17, 2008 - Spring Premiere:
DANCING WITH THE STARS 13.3/21, 21.15, 5.6/15, 7.1/17

Monday, September 24, 2007 - Fall Premiere:
DANCING WITH THE STARS 13.5/20, 21.25, 5.8/15, 7.2/17

Looks identical and not that down. Shows like American Idol and Dancing with the Stars are not much down and probably won't go much down in the near future.

Yeah, the ratings have more women viewers, but so does mostly every other television show. The only types of shows that have more male viewers are shows like Prison Break and Family Guy. Every other show has more women viewers than men...that includes Back to You.

Irene said it the best, I'd rather watch a show where I know who is in it rather than someone trying to become a star. I hate reality TV, too, but this is one show that is actually good (mainly because of the stars). Don't watch ANY other reality show (that includes The Bachelor, Wife Swap, Supernanny, etc ... Brian if you want to put the ABC bias crap on me again).

Solomon, completely right about Paula Abdul. I don't know what's wrong with her this season. So far she mutters, rambles, and studders through everything she says. She pretty much talks nonsense after every performance on the show. I never remember her doing that in any of the other seasons . . . obviously on some kind of medication.

at the risk of sounding like an AI loon (and I honestly have never sat through more than half an episode), every year seems to have at least one star that breaks out, even if it isn't the winner. Taylor and the runnerup both got dropped, no doubt about it, but Chris Daughtry's album was one of the biggest albums of 2007 and one of the only albums that actually sold well in a really bad sales year. So it's not like that season was a total waste. Clay's career went downhill because his housewife fanbase moved onto Josh Groban

She never did it in previous seasons, I don't know what is up with her doing that this season. And it's not like she does it once in awhile. She does it every episode, after every single performance.

BTW, I don't consider AI and DWTS reality tv anyways. They are contests. DWTS wouldn't be exciting to watch if it had nobodies instead of celebs. Some celebs are more famous than others, but nonetheless, they are celebs. Steve Guttenberg may not be much of a star now, but he was one of the leading men back in the late 80's -early 90's. The way the show has piqued the interests of many celebs, I can easily see CURRENT top stars being on there. BTW, Billy Ray Cyrus is on a hit show on Disney and he was on DWTS. I can easily say he is far from a has-been.

It has stars that are "stars" now too. Mario (R&B star), Monique Coleman (High School Musical), Sabrina Bryan (Cheetah Girls), are some. Mel B is still in the limelight as well. Jennifer Aniston really wants to be on the show...wonder if it'll happen?

At least this show tries to be good to stars, unlike shows like Celebrity Rehab and Celebrity Fit Club. Now stars who have been out of the limelight (Mario Lopez, Drew Lachey, Jennie Garth etc) are now back in good game with Hollywood as they are hosting stuff and getting their own shows. So it is a good deal.

He wants to learn to dance like that too. :D He is a great dancer anyways, so anything with dancing, there he is. It's just like sex, except with clothes on.

Monique may be in High School Musical but it's hardly like they have Zac Efron on it. Mario may have a few r&b hits, but does anyone really know who he is?

It's basically a dancing Surreal Life. You'd never see Beyonce or Justin or someone do Surreal Life, the same way you'll never see them do Dancing With The Stars, even tho you'll see their hasbeen former bandmates

Well Surreal Life has total hasbeens. Dancing with the Stars does have current stars on there, too, though. A-listers are too busy with their work to be on the show...you saw what happened to Floyd Mayweather the boxer last season, as he had a big fight to train for as well. So what if they could get Jennifer Aniston, what would you think of that? She is interested being on the show.

Keibler...only makes me think of elves and cookies.

DWTS has been a springboard for some of the stars. Mario Lopez has had steady work pre-DWTS and post-DWTS, so why is he considered a has-been?

To me a has-been is someone who has no career, no money and is not featured in a tabloid magazine.

I am a women and I think both of these shows suck big time. All reality shows are a big waste of time and I can't understand anyone male or female wasting their time with this foolishness. With TV today they run everything in the ground. Now they are on a gameshow kick also. It seems not a week goes by without them coming up with some new one.Deal or No Deal is so lame I can hardly believe it. There are a couple that are decent...not great...but can be fun to pass the time. But no reason to have game shows on constantly. IMO TV keeps getting worse and worse. It has nothing to do with people being has beens but the pure quality of the programming they choose to put on. So many channels to choose from but so few truly good shows to watch except for reruns of things when they did have on good quality sitcoms in the lineup instead of all of this trash. Do we really need three CSIs? How about some hour long comedy/drama type programs? If you like shows like CSI, forensics and the like I would much rather watch the real life things shown on A&E,ID,Discovery ect channels that have real cases where you can really learn things. As for TV Land it has turned into a joke. People expect to watch the station to see older classic sitcoms not a ridiculous attempt to mimic the other networks. I am in my forties and if that is their target it is laughable. TV has been getting worse by the year. I guess we can take solace in one thing it can't get much worse can it? I certainly hope not. The best to all......:)

Really, the woman doesn't need to work. She helps her daughter run the Elvis empire. Priscilla was doing that up until Lisa turned 30 years old. She still has a hand in running the mansion and other Elvis ventures. If being a has-been means having what Priscilla has, then give me that lifestyle and all that money.

Seems to me it is like people are considering the DWTS celebs losers when in fact, they are people who have money already and don't need to be in the limelight 24/7 like some celebs.

Not only that, I don't think many current hit stars can do DWTS because of the intense practice they must endure. They practice almost 8 hours a day everyday for ONE DANCE. Then when they have two dances they must do, they practice even longer. Too many celebs don't have the time to do that. Billy Ray Cyrus stated the other day on Oprah he should not have done DWTS at that particular time he was on because he was working on an album and doing his hit show HANNAH MONTANA with his daughter. He said if you do DWTS, you shouldn't be doing anything else because the practice is long hours and it takes lots of devotion.
