View Full Version : Dolly on 'Idol'
PlayOn 03-22-2008, 03:03 PM I was watching GAC Top 20 Country Countdown and the host (Nan Kelley) interviewed country super star Dolly Parton, who will be coming to 'American Idol' in April for Dolly Week, where the contestants have to sing songs by her.
Her new album, 'Backwoods Barbie', debuted in the no. 2 slot, the best of her career since the '70's. She'll also perform her new single 'Jesus and Gravity', and a will video for the song will be coming. Shooting began Friday (yesterday) March 21.
When asked what she thought about 'AI', Parton replied with, 'We didn't have shows like this back in the day. We just knocked on the doors of Nashville and prayed it would happen. So I'm happy 'American Idol' is doing doing this for the young people.'
EmoJoe 03-22-2008, 03:12 PM wait, is it going to be Dolly Parton Week or just country week? Jesus if it's Dolly Parton week, someone over AI has to be on crack or something. PEOPLE.THEMES.DO.NOT.WORK. -_-
PlayOn 03-22-2008, 03:19 PM I'm pretty sure it's Dolly Week, but the TV was low she so could have been very well talking about Country Week. But I'm almost sure Nan said Dolly Week. Guess we'll find out in April.
EmoJoe 03-22-2008, 03:22 PM LOL...oh God. this show never learns.
Cactus Jack 03-22-2008, 03:49 PM This will give the chance for the contestants to outgay Danny Noriega and David hernandez

I knew Danny Noriega was gay, but David Hernandez? Dang. Tip me over with a feather.

LOL you didnt know about his SCANDAL?
PlayOn 03-22-2008, 04:25 PM Wasn't he the xotic dancer? If that's who I'm thinking about, I heard, but I thought it was for a ladies club or something to that extent.

 It was definitely not a ladies' club. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's just Dolly week, too. As much as I love Dolly, it does sound pretty boring just to have her songs.
EmoJoe 03-22-2008, 07:21 PM not nessacarily boring...just BAD. i dont see anyone doing well with the theme aside from Kristy who probably wont even be here by then, lol.

Yeah, I think it would be a combination of the two. Someone might try to take on I Will Always Love You, but do it more like Whitney's version, but I'm not too sure on anything else.
PlayOn 03-23-2008, 01:31 AM 'Jolene.' I can picture Brooke White/Carly Smithson singing that.
I, for one, can't wait for Dolly week. I had to sit through two Lennon/McCarthy weeks, so middle finger to anybody who complains.
EmoJoe 03-24-2008, 05:46 PM it's country week, not Dolly week. and it's going to be next week (top 9 week).

id laugh if Kristy was eliminated this week. it'd be just like John Stevens in Season 3, where they did Big Band right after he was eliminated.

GOD HELP US ALL.
by the way, im not upset that its her songs because i dont like her or anything, but lets be honest...most of them cannot pull off Dolly Parton songs.

Psh, I don't care who gets the most votes or wins anymore. It's all about me laughing my ass off when he forgets his lyrics again.

I thought Ryan said at the end of last weeks show, 'next week, Dolly week.' I could care either way for this. I like Dolly, but it's not something I'll protest outside FOX studios for having.
I think they should have a previous idols week where they have to preform songs by previous idols. Yay or nay, anybody?
schoolmom 04-02-2008, 10:57 AM Well y'all, Dolly night is over now, and tonight we'll see who goes home. I
hope some of y'all feel pretty silly, talking about how a Dolly night would
never work. I think most of the contestants did pretty well. I've never
been much of a Carly fan, but I was VERY impressed with her last night! And
I think Syesha (sorry if I spelled her name wrong) did fairly well on "I will
always love you."
