View Full Version : Price Is Right trip
mriggles 03-22-2008, 02:53 PM Hello everyone, I am back from LA with more stress than when I left, thanks to the friendly skies, but that is a story for another day.
I am sure you all want to know all about my day at the price is right. Well without further a due...............
I have to say first & foremost what a different atmosphere it is now with Drew Carey as host. Everyone seems a bit more relaxed on the set during rehearsal. One of the models told me a few years ago & she told me again this week, that Bob Barker was a very nice man, but a very tough boss.
The crew is the best in the business but you see a few more smiles on their faces then in years gone by.
They are much more strict than in years gone by with cameras being allowed into the studio. In years gone by, I could obtain a camera pass from my friend that he arranged for in advance, but now (at least on the day I was there) no cameras were permitted. I even tried the old krispy kreme donout trick for the security guards but it did not work.
Anyway, The new set in person is brighter than you can ever imagine, if you think it is loud on tv, you should be standing right next to it!!!!
The models that were there for the 2 tapings I was at were BRANDI SHERWOOD, TAMIKO NASH & AMBER DONALDSON. I did not get to meet the future mr. iggles (gabrielle) :( The models (especially Brandi) could not have been nicer. (BRANDY YOU ROCK GIRL) ;)
Alot of people have been asking me on here whether or not the show will be going on the road in the near future. The answer I got this week was YES but not this season. They wanted to make sure Drew was comfortable doing the show from studio 33 before they ever entertained thoughts of bringing the show on the road.
It looks like initial planning may be underway for road shows in season 37. I heard talk of shows from Cleveland, New york & Boston, but this is far from set in stone.
The prime time shows have been a smashing success & there are plans to have a few more for may sweeps.
Drew Carey absolutely rocks, incredibly nice down to earth guy who is exactly the same way off camera as he is on. He took the time to chat with me for about 3 minutes as he was preparing to rehearse the second show they were taping that day. I told him what a good job he was doing & I asked him how it has been learning the ropes so to speak. He told me it has been a whirlwind, but now that he knows every game inside & out things have been alot easier for him. He said he truly enjoys the show & he never thought he would enjoy it so much!!!
I also got to meet Rich fields for the first time this week & he was also very nice & he said that it has been a very smooth transition for him from one host to the next, he said the only real change is that you have to be ready for bsolutely anything with Drew as the host, he said you never know when he will come to you & ask you something.
Because of other stuff I had going on I only had one day to visit price so I didn't spend as much time As I usually did.
The shows I was at I believe will be airing on April 9th & 10th, or there abouts, I don't remember the exact dates.
It was a truly fun couple of days, I also got to attend deal or no deal & believe it or not American idol, but I am back on the east coast now.
Any questions...just ask!!!
Brian Damage 03-22-2008, 03:05 PM I am so glad the trip was good! Drew sounds like a really personable guy.
BTW Mikey, sweeping changes at work! ;)

OH yeah? You know the number... call me!!!.... NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
Heidi Dawn 03-22-2008, 04:33 PM I'm glad that everyone's getting along off camera. When Bob was still there, people were getting fired or quitting left and right; hopefully this won't happen now that Syd is the new executive producer.

I did not actually see Syd until the beginning of the 2nd taping of the day. Not sure where he was, but he seems to be all business. No one really gave me the impression that he is hard to work for or anything like that
Ireneparalegal 03-22-2008, 04:59 PM OMG dude, good to have you back, safe and sound. It sounds like you had an awesome time!!!! You were so close to me. ;) I knew you left but didn't know when exactly you'd be at the studios.
You just affirmed what I already knew abt Drew. He is very humble and obviously is one great man who knows how blessed he is to have this job.
The one model who is pregnant, what is her name and when is she due?
The Great One 03-22-2008, 05:15 PM Hey mriggles, I'm glad to see you back!!! It sure does sound like you had a great time in LA. Thanks for sharing the details of your trip. I find the information very interesting. I'm glad to hear that you found Drew Carey to be a down to earth guy who is the same way off camera as he is on. Also, it's good to know that the models you got to meet were nice because I would have thought the opposite to be true. One of the questions I was going to ask you was about the prime time shows and if there were any plans to do more but you already gave the answer to that. I think I'll save my other questions for another day. Anyways, your words paint a nice picture of what it's like to be on the set of TPIR. Thanks again!!! :)

Hey Irene, yeah we were within spitting distance of one another, I wish I had more time out there, we could have hooked up... eh i mean Met up
The model on the show that is pregnant is Gwendolyn Osborne, I am not sure when she is due. They are letting her stay on the show up until she can't do it anymore though... I saw an epsiode a few weeks back where she was in high heels modeling a treadmill.... a bit risky if u ask me

friendsfan77 03-22-2008, 07:24 PM Glad to hear things are going so great behind the scenes. I always find it disheartening when I hear behind the scenes drama on TV shows, especially if it's a favorite. I had a really good feeling that Drew would be just as cool off camera as he is on.
mriggles 03-22-2008, 08:33 PM Yeah Drew is exactly as he appears. He is truly having fun doing the show, I was very happy to hear that!!!

Janice, Boston was one of the cities I heard being tossed around, but keep in mind these plans are in the very very infant stages. Who knows when Or if they will leave the bob barker studio. I will keep you up to date, but it won't be until next season at the earliest

Thanks Mike. I really appreciate knowing someone, 'in the know', and would love to know if the show is coming to Boston. I'm not sure if I could stand in any long lines though. I'm sure the lines are long, but time will tell. :)

I can't wait until tell us more news, soon.
Janice 03-30-2008, 02:43 PM Off topic, but why not, lol. Have hosts always used the long, thin microphone? I think it's cool, but I'm wondering if there's a story or any history behind it.

Bob Barker absolutely loved the long skinny microphone with the very long cord. He refused to go to a wireless mic in more recent times, he was always fearful that the mic would cut out on him. No real story behind it that I know of, other than Bob loving it

So I guess Drew want to carry on the Bob Barker tradition?
Janice 03-30-2008, 08:57 PM So I guess Drew want to carry on the Bob Barker tradition?
I wonder if Drew had a choice. It's almost as if the long microphone is part of the set, in a sense. If I was Drew, I would want a tiny mic on my suit. The show is sort of hands on, lots of pointing to the games, helping contestants up off the floor, lol, etc., and I'd want to be hands free. I wonder if Drew is using the same mic that Bob used. Seems to me that Bob Barker's microphone should be in the Smithsonian. Good Lord, I have too much time on my hands.

That was a really common thing with game shows in the '70's and '80's. Other examples include Jim Perry using it on Card Sharks; Gene Rayburn had one on Match Game. Tom Kennedy used the same one on his version of TPIR too. When Dennis James hosted, he had a mic with a cord, but on the few episodes I've seen, the microphone itself was somewhat thicker.
mriggles 04-05-2008, 03:33 PM So I guess Drew want to carry on the Bob Barker tradition?
Kind of sort of, but Drew made it clear very early on he wanted a wireless mic.

Drew had some choice in the matter. He liked the tiny microphone, but he wanted it wireless. This is not the same microphone that Bob used.
TPIRfan333 04-13-2008, 08:54 PM I'm going to Price in 2 years. It's my Graduation gift. and I want to get into the Broadcasting business and hopefully one day get a job at CBS and create my own Game Show.
