Well, according to my boyfriend yesterday, a lady who works for ABC went into his workplace and they began chatting. She mentioned she works for ABC and he decided to ask, "Why did ABC cancel his fave show GEORGE LOPEZ?" She told him that George was asking for waaaay too much money. ABC decided to drop the show rather than give in to his demands.

Wonder why he was doing that when the show wasn't a top 5 show-lol You can ask for more money if the show is not kicking a$$ in the ratings

Still, knowing a little bit about SAG contracts, you don't take pay cuts, you get raises every year. Believe me, the networks are worth billions, they can afford his type of salary.

I just thought you would keep quiet if you know the show is not doing that well

Why though? The network is still making millions off the show. George and the crew deserve their share of the wealth.

When my boyfriend told me this, he asked me what the ratings were for the show. Solomon, how well was the show doing ratings wise?

Also, George may have been comparing his show to According to Jim, a show that may not be a ratings winner (am I correct?) yet, here it is still on ABC. George I cannot imagine asking for a whole lot, but asking for a raise in regards to the whole cast. I mean, what does ABC constitute as "a lot of money?"

It probably was a couple of million per episode. Let's face it, ABC wanted out of the show.

Meaning they were finding any excuse to get rid of it?

I would love to compare #'s and $$$ in regards to George and Jim. What is JIM getting paid per episode? Ratings? all that.

Good question, I don't know, but I know the ratings for Jim, aren't that good.

I love ATJ. I heard the ratings aren't all that good, but still here it is on ABC. I thought ATJ and George made for good television in that they are both sitcoms with a family theme.

I would love to know the information I asked above. Anyone???

No way it could have been a couple million an episode. Even the cast of Friends didn't get that. They all got 1 million an episode for their last season. If George was asking for more money it would have been probably 250,000 or 350,000 per episode. I think the real reason why ABC didn't bring it back was George was a Warner Bros show. If it were Touchstone, it would have been back so it can air more episodes in syndication, like According to Jim...which means more money for Touchstone/ABC Studios.

As for ratings, both shows were solid their first four seasons or so...then came American Idol and that damaged them.

I am bringing here part of an article that talks abt what you just posted Pav...but I am confused, what does Warner Bros. vs. Touchstone have to do with ABC deciding whether to keep GL on the air or not?

Here is part of that article:

ABC, he said, has "unceremoniously" canceled his self-titled comedy, which over the years chronicled his personal life from his sad childhood growing up with an abusive grandmother, to his alcoholism and kidney transplant.

"The George Lopez Show" will live on in syndication, but that's not making Lopez feel better about not getting the chance to tell one final season of stories. Lopez said Steve McPherson, ABC president of prime-time entertainment, called him over the weekend to explain that "financially" it wasn't working out, that the network would lose money if it picked up the show again.

That explanation was painful to hear, Lopez said, considering the way the network has shuffled his show over the years -- four different time slots in five years -- and putting it up against "American Idol" time and time again.

It all contributed to the show's low ratings, a point not lost on Lopez who noted that this season his show out-performed two freshman comedies that were renewed: "Notes from the Underbelly" and "Knights of Prosperity."

"I’ll take the good and the bad," Lopez said. "I took the five years of good and I did a lot with the good. My popularity, I was involved in charities, I overcame my illness, all on TV. I shared all of that with America—every secret I had. Every personal feeling. Every emotion. Everything was open to the show. And what happens?"

Lopez said he attributed the cancellation in part to the fact that the show is produced by Warner Bros. Television, and not ABC Television Studios. Using some colorful language that cannot be printed in a family newspaper, Lopez scoffed in particular at another ABC pickup: "Cavemen," about two brothers and one best friend, described as sophisticated cave dudes living in modern-day Atlanta, who will continually find themselves at odds with contemporary society.

"I get kicked out for a...caveman and shows that I out-performed because I’m not owned by [ABC Television Studios]...So a...Chicano can't be on TV but a...caveman can?" Lopez said. "And a Chicano with an audience already? You know when you get in this that shows do not last forever, but this was an important show and to go unceremoniously like this hurts. One hundred seventy people lost their jobs."

Warner Bros. is not related to ABC...Touchstone is. Touchstone is now renamed ABC Studios. So you tell me what sitcom ABC would pick to keep...George or Jim, lol?

So I should assume that the woman my boyfriend chatted with was just saying George wanted more money when in fact, ABC was claiming they would lose money by retaining the show on the air?

Any chance another network will pickup GL?

CBS is affiliated with Warner Brothers isn't it?
How about the CW?

Yeah, probably Irene, especially since George was not putting up the ratings it used to do. By airing the show, they made no money out of it, while Jim did similar numbers, ABC could pile the new episodes on their syndication deal. Jim is on locals now and then ALSO coming to cable on TBS in Fall 2009.

dlemond...I wish Warner would have shopped it last season to The CW...now would be too late to bring it back. Unless its Nick at Nite ratings go even higher and become a bigger hit or something. It is doing great for Nick at Nite.

Do you have ratings for N@N Pav?

Reading that reminded me of how Family Guy was yanked TWICE by Fox. The DVD's sold so well, they brought it back. I don't expect ABC to bring back GL, but I am sure GL will live on in syndication and do exceptionally well. It airs on N@N and also on one of our local channels.

There is only one thing i hate about sitcoms, they have to end sooner or later. Its just sad that George wanted another season or two, and we didnt get to see it.
