View Full Version : Isabel's TV followup to The Jeffersons
Jude The Obscure 03-21-2008, 12:00 AM Anybody remember her proposed syndicated sitcom called "Isabel Sanford's Honeymoon Hotel"? It was supposed to be a ready made 5-days a week sitcom, at least a minimum of 100 episodes to produced (I think)--sort of like how "Madame's Place" was done for syndication. All I know is that it only got past the intial 5 episode pilot stage and I actually saw this on the air. Her co-star was the guy who played Mr. Bradley on FOL, John Lawlor. I need to research this to see why it never actually got up to speed.
treky 03-21-2008, 02:14 AM never heard of it. Must have been a real winner!
Scoobiedoo30 03-21-2008, 01:47 PM I also nervery heard it
jefffan 03-21-2008, 09:34 PM I remember seeing it once, IMO it was horrible! I believe it was right around the time when 227 was on and I think Amen was on too...it just didn't compare...I can't remember much more than that :)

I used to try and search for this in the TV book-"Guide to PrimeTV and cable shows' and realized since it was a syndicated sitcom that's why i could find it-lol

I saw it once or twice, it was around 1987. You're right, the show had no content. It lacked substance.
snl 70s show fan 03-31-2008, 01:54 AM 2 words about honeymoon hotel IT STUNK
Jude The Obscure 03-31-2008, 08:36 AM I remember running across it and watching for a few mintutes but cannot recall anything about it really. Anyhow, it must have stunk for the producers to pull the plug after 5 episodes.

Coffee Florence 07-05-2009, 12:39 AM It sucked. It was less funny than Small Wonder! I'm serious! At least that awful show had the nosy neighboor and the campiness of a terrible child actress pretending to be a robot. I remember coming home from school in about the 3rd grade and watching it and wondering why "Louise" was not as funny anymore. It may not have been that bad; I recall it being interesting but yet plain and simple lacking in any funniness. She basically played a maid or something in a hotel (Or that's what I recall). This first of all is pretty dull and stereotypical. But getting beyond that, she was not funny, none of it was funny enough to make me laugh at the time, and I was a pretty sophisticated 9 year old. But to be honest, I don't remember getting through the whole episode.
Does anyone remember the plots?
Does anyone remember the presmise for the show, and the presmise for Louise's character?
Did she own the hotel, or was she a waitress or something???
I wish they had made a show with Isabel Sanford playing Louise after she divorced George and ran her own restaurant/hotel or something ridiculous and ripe with comic hi jinx like that. Now that at least would be a interesting situation. I mean, if you have to be hokey and do a hotel-based comedy, why not go all out.

The Louise character would have not been strong enough to carry a show on her own, and would have seemed dull without george

Right. Louise and George were on of the best sitcom duos of all time but to be honest George drove the success of the show since he gave most of the laughs but Weezy was still very important.
I'd like to see some of Isabel's Honeymoon Hotel because I never saw a second of it.
If any of you saw the Jeffersons even on reruns when you were going through puberty don't tell me you weren't impressed by Isabella's endowment and found it impressive.
Like when she dressed up as Jayne Mansfield but just in general she must have had DDs.

The company that made it (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361193/combined) went broke as they were trying to sell this (https://books.google.com/books?id=YX_daEhlnbsC&pg=PA512&lpg=PA512&dq=Isabel+Sanford%27s+Honeymoon+Hotel&source=bl&ots=R3CDinQKbt&sig=3maNLZxkmKebIqheSXlRBfe5h_o&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjHgLeunp7MAhVX6GMKHdfyCtQQ6AEIVDAM#v=onepage&q=Isabel%20Sanford%27s%20Honeymoon%20Hotel&f=false) into first-run (http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/1987-01-07/lifestyle/0100070199_1_isabel-sanford-honeymoon-hotel-sir) syndication (https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2238&dat=19860909&id=5ZglAAAAIBAJ&sjid=XfUFAAAAIBAJ&pg=5728,888175&hl=en). To be more specific, this sitcom was produced by Fred Silverman and DEG (DeLaurentiis Entertainment Group) and debuted as a "pilot week" on several stations in January 1987, with plans to launch a full season that fall. However DEG went bankrupt before production was to fully start, cancelling the show.

I loved her too....
That was why I was mad when they never pushed her autobiography to come out....I emailed her publicist 2-3 times in the last decade...he basically said it is up to the family to push it out....
Plus I wish I could get a copy of her intimate portrait episode....had it recorded on vhs years ago...but can't find the tape
