Well, we all know we didn't see them in the series. But didn't they like their own son? They thought he was a big problem. And Steve told the Winslows like everything his parents think is wrong with him. I mean why? Steve said that his parents got their honeymoon ruined because he was born. And in one episode, when Steve wanted to go sky diving with Carl, he noticed that his dad had ripped the parachute. Did he want Steve to get killed???!!!
Well, he was annoying to many people, but he was a kind-hearted, super-nice smart guy... So I think this is kinda confusing.

They did not care to write outrageous claims like that just so they could make jokes about how annoying Steve was. His parents sounded like nerds also. Or, at least his dad did.

If this show can have time travel, gene manipulation, particle transportation, and human cloning, it can have cruel and mean parents without anyone complaining too bad.

But all of that is still far more realistic than having his parents hate their own son, who also was their only child. Well, I guess that running joke kind of "worked", since we never saw his parents, but it still makes me think they can't have been good people. And yes, they seemed to have been nerds too, and all of those other relatives, who Steve talked about or introduced, were more or less odd too, so really, what had Steve's parents expected their child to be like? As a matter of fact, it seemed like no matter how annoyed those Winslows were (or really, claimed to be) by Steve, they liked him better than what his own parents did, and that's just sad.

Yes, it is. But at least the Winslows liked him. And Myra of course.
