View Full Version : Never thought about this but wasn't the George character too old to be taking off his
TVFactFan 03-15-2008, 11:15 AM suit jacket and ready to FIGHT during season 1?-lol i mean no man in his 40's should be saying-"PUT UP YOUR DUKES" so we can rumble-lol
I am glad that was the one thing the writers removed from his character from the start of the show. Maybe lionel but defintely not George who was as a married middle age business man
MikeLutton 03-15-2008, 03:01 PM that was his charactor i loved when george took his coat off and was ready to fight what made george funny n exciting to watch
GARFIELDKOOL 03-15-2008, 05:09 PM Taking your suit jacket off when about to throw down was how they did it back in the day. That was the best part. When I was a kid, I seen grown men strip down to their t-shirt ready to fight, so I don't think George was too old to do that.

it just made the character look immature

That's how it was. Those were the days. Not only that, it excited the audience/viewers to see a man not stand down to anyone, he was ready to show he would and could take someone on. I mean, I hope a man in his 40's isn't all abt boxing it out with someone when they get mad, but sometimes seeing someone do something we normally wouldn't do, makes it worthwhile. Like I enjoy seeing people doing daring things on television. I wouldn't do it, but to see someone else do it, makes it interesting to watch. Seeing George want to fight makes me feel that is what I would do in his situation.
Just like James Evans on Good Times, just once, I would have loved to see him hit someone. it would have been great seeing him take off his jacket and hat and duke it out with someone.
BarneyFife 03-15-2008, 07:54 PM I'm 45. Make me mad enough, and i'm ready to throw down with anybody. That's just the way it is with me. But i've always had a short temper.

 You go girl! :boxing:
TVFactFan 03-16-2008, 08:43 PM I just thought it had him looking a little TOO GHETTO
Ireneparalegal 03-16-2008, 08:55 PM Oh there you go. Not everyone who fights is ghetto or behaving ghetto-like. It is good to know you are not the fighting type, but there are people who are not going to bow down to people who disrespect them. Albeit, it can get them into trouble, but George was not born in the "right part of town," he was born in a troubled neighborhood where fists were used constantly. It is what he knew.

Ok take the ep when he was being blackmailed fir example, couldn't he have just asked him to leave instead of getting physical?-lol But he wasn't that GHETTO on All in the Family so I never understood why he became so HOODISH on the Jeffersons in that first season-lol but he was still my boy, just a ghetto dude

Geez I sure hope not. I'm in my late 40s and know plenty of guys well into their 50s now that would be willing to do that if provoked enough. And they'd be sober too!
Ireneparalegal 03-16-2008, 09:19 PM I'd prefer a man or woman who is willing to not back down when provoked, rather than a person who lets people walk all over them.
I also give kudos to those who can easily walk away from a situation that arises where it seems one is provoking for a stupid reason and seeking a fight just to prove nothing.

not getting walked all over, just handling it in a different way.

When I'm pushed to a limit I have no problem with fighting.
BarneyFife 03-17-2008, 01:00 AM You can't go thru life letting people walk all over you, or they'll do it everytime. I don't like to fight, it's childish, but i'm not gonna be somebodys fool either. Take up for yourself, no one else will.
