View Full Version : Where Would You Live If You Had No Limitations?
Fleet 03-15-2008, 04:33 AM I saw this thread on the CityData website...
Where Would You Live If You Had No Limitations (I suppose limitations meaning money).
I would choose Monteria Estates in the Chatsworth/Porter Ranch area, about 3 miles from where I currently live.
The lots were designed for a minimum of 2 acres per house, although many far exceed that. The houses there are worth about $1.5 to 2.0 million and up (way up). Many houses there are 6 bedroom or more.
And some celebrities have lived there. One was Chad Everett and another was a local news reporter.
It is a gated area and I've never been in there. There are only two entrances- one in the North and one in the South- the South one being the main entrance. So I've taken these pics from the perimeter...
The first two are from the South and the last one is from the North.

PZelda 03-15-2008, 08:25 AM Hands down, New York City.
Courtnee 03-15-2008, 03:44 PM Right here, just out of my parents house.
I'd stay here in New York, but with no limitations I'd live in a nice Brownstone with a big garage so I can make my metal stuff.
JoPol_wannabe 03-15-2008, 04:16 PM I would move out either in Montana or Wyoming somewhere near the MTs and live in a Log Cabin on a big Ranch. I think I would die and go to heaven having a view like this to look at everyday
InspectorExstead 03-15-2008, 04:37 PM Hands down, New York City.
ditto. no doubt in my mind. if i could afford it, i would LOVE to live in nyc.
i visited two years ago for a couple of days. at the end, i couldn't bear to get on the airplane. lol. and i miss it so much. sigh.
a nice loft apartment, with windows all around the living room so i can see the view of nyc, would be pretty sweet. hey, you said no limitations! lol.

Ireneparalegal 03-15-2008, 05:14 PM I would VACATION here, have a vacation home here on Montego Bay. I love where I live too much:

Max Whittaker 03-15-2008, 09:06 PM Colorado. In the mountains. Away from civilization. With those who matter most to me. Self-sustaining.
dawsongirl 03-15-2008, 09:08 PM I'm good with where I am...but one of those gated communities would be nice. Lots of land, a nice house with character (not one of these cookie-cutter bland-looking houses they're building nowadays)...enough money to fix things up nice.
Mikado 03-15-2008, 10:19 PM I'd probably go spend a year in Asia, then come back and buy a big Victorian country house of red brick and gingerbread, with a big round turret where id have my den........and then id fly to the Moon on my rocket pack
Brieannas21 03-15-2008, 11:12 PM Oregon or Colorado, a nice big house on about 60 acres.

Do you mean like this? :D
This is a photo of a mansion in Monteria Estates. I could see myself living there with no problem. ;)

That is a great view. It would be kind of cold this time of the year, though.

Fleet 03-16-2008, 12:20 AM I wouldnt WANT to live anywhere without real seasons, myself
I can handle 55 or 60 degrees in the winter. Nothing below that. :D
Mikado 03-16-2008, 12:28 AM If i was born there, likely id be the same, but, if I had no winter id miss it.....I only wish it was about a month shorter
BarneyFife 03-16-2008, 12:42 AM I would love to live somewhere were it was warm all year long. I've always wanted to live in LA or Southern Florida. LA would be my first choice.

I agree. Though this winter...it's working on month 5 right now. ohno:

Well, you can always hire a butler and a few maids. :)

Oh man, I'd love to live up near the top in a nice, spacious apartment on one of the Upper sides, so that I could always have a great view of Manhattan and the rest of the boroughs at night.
I miss New York so much too, it's not even funny.

Fleet 03-18-2008, 01:00 AM Here are some more photos of my choice... Monteria Estates. The first two were taken over a wall. That was the only way to take the pic.
The next two are from the street near the entrance.

i was trying to convince my parents to buy me two tickets, for me & my friend, as a christmas gift so i could visit ny over winter break. but that didn't go over so well. lol.
maybe next winter break? i'm not giving up so easily. lol.
PlayOn 03-18-2008, 04:43 PM Ya'll are going to think this is corny (and maybe even crazy) but I would never move out of Kentucky. I have everything down here: family, friends, ect. The "big city" life isn't for me. I like the small town, country life. Guess it's because I'm used to it.
I'd stay here in Tennesse, we have pretty mild winters without much snow but the summers can be really hot & humid so I'd want to live some place cooler for the summer, maybe Vancouver Canada.
Fleet 05-06-2008, 11:14 PM There happens to be a house for sale in the area I mentioned (Monteria Estates). Well, a mansion is more like it.
It is built on two acres, 7 bedroom and 6.5 bathrooms. 9,500 square feet and a 1,200 sq. ft. guest house.
Here are some photos from a real estate site:
Check out that huge living room! I could live there very easy; no problems at all (if I could afford it). :D
Ireneparalegal 05-06-2008, 11:24 PM Living here in So. California, you and I know how expensive it is. You can find a home elsewhere with the same square footage and it would be WAY cheaper. We pay for the luxury of living here.

True. A 4 bedroom/3 bathroom house which costs $600,000 here would cost about $300,000 in another state like Oklahoma or Iowa. Maybe even less.
Ireneparalegal 05-06-2008, 11:34 PM I am amazed at the amount of people moving up north to Bakersfield or Fresno. Give me the luxury of living here instead. I realize it is more expensive but I am not giving up the beach and the accessibility to the mountains or anywhere else to go live in the dry heat. :puke:

I know... both of those cities get very hot in the summer. 100 degrees is common in July in Bakersfield.
And the fog they get during the winter (Tule Fog)...

Terrible just terrible. Lancaster is another place I know people moved to. Why? You pay a lot of money for your a.c. when it gets hot and then in winter your heating bill is sky high. So what are you really saving if all your money you saved buying your house, goes to the electricity and the gas? Not to mention people think, "Oh I bought this cheap house." Yeah, but you drive a long distance to work and gas is NOT CHEAP.

Depending on the area and the size, I'd say $180,000 - $300,000 for that 4bed/3bath house here. My parents paid $200K for our 3/3 house in 04. We have more land than normal.

That's another thing. Other places offer more acres or huge backyards. I have watched those real estate shows on A&E and HDTV and I am sooooo amazed at the cost of a house and the amount of land one gets for some of the places across the country. I seen this magnificent home offered somewhere on the east coast. This huge home with 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths with this EXTREMELY LARGE backyard big enough for a pool, basketball court and barbecue/sitting area was selling for $400 grand. I couldn't believe it. That same house would sell here for $1 million.

Yeah, Lancaster. I certainy wouldn't want to live there...
Winter temps dipping down into teens, windy on many days (and many times it is a cold wind), not much out there- for entertainment, you have to drive at least 30 miles into Santa Clarita or 45 mile into the San Fernando Valley and 55-60 miles into Hollywood or L.A.
Crimson and Clover 05-07-2008, 02:56 PM somewhere in the mountains far away from gastonia
waichingliu81 05-07-2008, 03:03 PM US-wise, the big apple in NYC because of times square and the shopping malls or somewhere in the mid-west or southern US.
i also like the look of vancouver canada, cape town in south africa and sydney in australia

Exactly. I have a cousin who moved out there and I was shocked. I mean, why do you want to live in such a God-forsaken place merely because you can buy a house out there? I don't believe you are saving money, you are burning money via the heater or air conditioner. You are wasting gas just to travel to find entertainment. I am so glad to live where I do. I can drive to L.A. in 40 minutes. I can drive to the mountains or Ojai for snow in less than 30 mins. If I want the beach, there it is. I mean there is something to do, one can easily drive to that locale and the weather is great. I love hot days, so don't mind that. Cold weather is not really cold like in some other places.

Neither would I. There certainly isn't a shortage of room in that house!
mc_light1202 05-08-2008, 09:58 PM My parents paid around the same price for a three bedroom two bath house and my cousin has a house twice our size with 5 bedrooms in Arkansas and it only cost her 200k. I wouldn't buy a house here if I was a millionaire... it's a rip off.
Ireneparalegal 05-08-2008, 10:01 PM HEY NOW!?!, I have a house out in the middle of nowhere
I know. How do you do it? I mean, I don't want a grocery store across the street, but it is nice to have it close by. Also, I love having my family close by. I can't imagine being out in the middle of nowhere.

Well the grocery store isn't far away (about 10 mins away), we're just far from like malls, electronic stores, amusement parks (there about 30 mins away). But we have a lake that's practically right outside of outside our back door, our neighbors aren't that close to us, we are far from the road so we don't have a lot of traffic noise, But we aren't far from the main highway.
If there were a way that I could post pic of the area thats around my house I would. The "country" life isn't bad, it's peaceful
