WICHITA, Kan. — Deputies say a woman in western Kansas became stuck on her boyfriend's toilet after sitting on it for two years.

Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.

"We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."

Whipple said investigators planned to present their report Wednesday to the county attorney, who will determine whether any charges should be filed against the woman's 36-year-old boyfriend.

"She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body," Whipple said. "It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself."

He told investigators he brought his girlfriend food and water, and asked her every day to come out of the bathroom.

"And her reply would be, `Maybe tomorrow,"' Whipple said. "According to him, she did not want to leave the bathroom."

The boyfriend called police on Feb. 27 to report that "there was something wrong with his girlfriend," Whipple said, adding that he never explained why it took him two years to call.

Police found the clothed woman sitting on the toilet, her sweat pants down to her mid-thigh. She was "somewhat disoriented," and her legs looked like they had atrophied, Whipple said.

"She said that she didn't need any help, that she was OK and did not want to leave," he said.

She was taken to a hospital in Wichita, about 150 miles southeast of Ness City. Whipple said she has refused to cooperate with medical providers or law enforcement investigators.

Authorities said they did not know if she was mentally or physically disabled.

Police have declined to release the couple's names, but the house where authorities say the incident happened is listed in public records as the residence of Kory McFarren. No one answered his home phone number.

The case has been the buzz Ness City, said James Ellis, a neighbor.

"I don't think anybody can make any sense out of it," he said.

Ellis said he had known the woman since she was a child but that he had not seen her for at least six years.

He said she had a tough childhood after her mother died at a young age and apparently was usually kept inside the house as she grew up. At one time the woman worked for a long-term care facility, he said, but he did not know what kind of work she did there.

"It really doesn't surprise me," Ellis said of the bathroom incident. "What surprises me is somebody wasn't called in a bit earlier."

That is honestly one of the strangest things I've ever heard. Her skin grew into the toilet seat? That's horrifying.

why would she stay on the toilet so long?

At least she never had to make a run for the bathroom, cause she was already there

This is not the first time someone has been stuck to something for years and had their skin grow onto an object Mikey. Here is a story from 2004 where a woman was stuck to her sofa after being there for SIX YEARS!!!!

STUART, Fla. -- A 480-pound Martin County woman has died after emergency workers tried to remove her from the couch where she had remained for about six years.

Gayle Laverne Grinds, 40, died Wednesday, after a failed six-hour effort to dislodge her from the couch in her home. Workers say the home was filthy, and Grinds was too large to get up from the couch to even use the bathroom.

Everyone going inside the home had to wear protective gear. The stench was so powerful they had to blast in fresh air.

A preliminary autopsy on the the four-foot, ten-inch woman lists the cause of death as "morbid obesity." But officials want to know more about the circumstances inside the home.

Investigators say Grinds lived with a man named Herman Thomas, who says he tried to take care of her the best he could. He has told them he tried repeatedly to get her up, but simply couldn't. No charges have been filed, but officials are looking into negligence issues.

Emergency workers had to remove some sliding glass doors and lift the couch, with Grinds still on it, to a trailer behind a pickup truck. Removing her from the couch would be too painful, since her body was grafted to the fabric. After years of staying put, her skin had literally become one with the sofa and had to be surgically removed.

She died at Martin Memorial Hospital South, still attached to the couch.

Neighbors say they had no idea Grinds lived at the duplex, though they had seen Thomas and some children outside.

I do not understand how a person just becomes too big to get up from a couch all of a sudden. Like the day before she probably could have gotten up and down fine, but all of a sudden one day she just could not get up???? Strange and mind boggling.

Irene, you just proved the story CAN get worse  What is with these people. To sit on something for even one whole day will definitely drive a person nuts. This is sickening though, the woman on the couch had to have, well, deposited waste on her sofa lol and that must be 95% of the stench right there. What a health hazard. I'm suprised that didn't kill her instead, unless she wore diapers and got them changed regularly.

Okay, that is the funniest thing I have ever heard. The couch thing I guess makes a little bit more sense because it's comfortable at least, but a toilet? What? Hahahaha I'm still laughing :-p

I heard they want to press charges against the boyfriend. Anyone have an opinion on this? I know he should have called someone earlier but I don't think he should be charged because of it. I don't believe people have to be nice to one another - he did feed her at least.

Well, why did it take him two years to finally call for help? I mean, you would think after a full day of sitting on the toilet, the woman has to be insane or something. What he could have done is rather than ask her if she was ever going to get off the toilet, was to have simply called the authorities and if the sound of him making that call didn't make her jump off the toilet, then he would have been right in making that call.

It is just sick and horrendous that this guy never did anything abt it until now. As for the woman on the couch, she was doing the bathroom on the couch. She never moved around, that is why her skin grew to the fabric. Obviously in that case, the woman was obese and could not get up. Someone should have helped these women a lot sooner. And I think the boyfriend should be charged. If it was an infant in trouble or a child in trouble, it would be considered cruelty and abuse. So why is it different simply because the woman was an adult?

if anyone's going to be charged for this (which they shouldn't), why isn't it HER? since when is her boyfriend responsible for her? he's not her legal guardian. she's a grown woman, and unless the article left out something important, she had the means to get up on her own before her ass grew to the seat, after which case he did call authorities.

Ireneparalegal

She apparently is not all there. If it is his house, as the article stated, she is there on his toilet seat and not budging. It took her a long while before the skin actually grew/attached to the seat, but in the meantime, she has to be crazy in some fashion to decide to just sit there. He would ask her if she was going to get up and leave the toilet and she said words to the effect of "not today." Ok, if that is not mentally unstable, I don't know what is. If he is her boyfriend, he had the authority and the capability of getting her help.

not to sound gross, but I am curious. I wonder if the lady has IBS and finally decided the hell with it and live on the toilet, since there is nothing less pleasant in the world than when you feel the need to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes.

I was researching this story because I remember reading something abt the obese woman having a leg injury. She was on the couch nursing her leg and just couldn't get up any longer because of the weight. Her sister would visit her almost daily and clean her and wash her while she remained on the couch. But then her sister stated she stopped doing that and hadn't seen her in a few years until this incident occurred.

Now that is weird, you have contact daily with your loved one and then POOF you don't have any contact with her. And no one, not even the boyfriend bothers to make any contact with her family or even a doctor to say she is so obese she can't get up off the couch. I mean, what am I missing here? Do these people think it is ok for anyone to remain on a couch or toilet as long as they eat and drink? And to think, her sister stop cleaning her daily and it is obvious from the story that no one else bothered to clean her if the place was filthy and she was in her own filth on that couch. puke:
