The worst??

it did seem to me that they used Martha Raye quite a bit in the later seasons.

The song at the end was kinda ridiculous.

It was by far the worst and the show was brutally going downhill. The plug should had been pulled after the 7th season. You can see Linda Lavin's energy was not there.

There was 2 of them that Mel didn't appear in. The other one was Dollars to Donuts, which was the previous episode in production code order (which was the order E! used to show them in, rather than original airdate order, which is the order ION mostly uses). Looks like that episode airs next week (March 19th) It also has Carrie in it.

Vic Tayback has a triple bypass surgery that why he missed 2 espoide. Beth Howland and Linda Lavin are the only two actress never missed any epsoide from 1 thru 201 epsoide.

That why Vic died of massive heart attack in 1990 due to heavy smoking. Poor Phillip he was in shock when he heard that in 1990. Those two are a good buddies.

But watching those two episodes just showed how MEL ws the glue that held the show together. Not seeing Mel on a ep of Alice was like not seeing

George on the Jeffersons
Fred on Sanford and Son
Nell on Gimmie a Break

Did any of those happen besides Fred not being on Sanford and Son? I know Jack was on every episode of Three's Company (he was the only one that didn't miss an episode). Actually, in the case of Sanford and Son, one of my favorite episodes is a Grady episode, when Redd Foxx was off due to the contract dispute. The "Fred's Treasure Garden" one where there's marijuana growing in the garden, but Grady thinks it's "wild parsley".

George (Sherman Hemsley) appeared in every Jeffersons episode.

I think Nell Carter appeared in each GAB episode.

I figured George was probably in every episode. I was pretty sure Nell was too (I'm the editor of the Gimme a Break guide over at tv.com, and had watched just about every episode while I was working on it.) She was even on the two "spinoff" episodes where they tested spinoff shows ("Nell and the Kid", and "The Center")

Ireneparalegal

So, I guess Solomon is correct in comparing Mel to these other characters on other shows. Albeit, Sherman Hemsley or Nell Carter NOT being in an episode of each of their shows, would be crazy, since they were the stars, but Mel was a star of ALICE, the show had the obvious star, but the remaining 3 were also stars. When Polly Holliday played Flo, she was in each and every episode, as was the character Vera, Jolene and even Belle. So why when Vic became sick would they even try and carry out an episode without him? I find that kinda rude. I mean, we weren't there, maybe Vic wanted them to go ahead and pursue filming the show, but as a producer, I would have said NO. I would have waited it out. There have been times when shows stalled production when someone became sick. That is why there is unemployment insurance, to cover the times when work is not available. Besides, these people had contracts, it wasn't like they were getting paid weekly like normal people.
