NBC had unrealisitc expectations for Sanford. They wanted an instant ratings powerhouse, instead of nuturing the show in a good sitcom block, say on Wednesdays with DS.

I think it was just a new time and most people had already been so familiar with the Sanford type of Sitcom. I think CAL is so much better than Lamont

Not to mention that Sanford was competing against the everyday S&S, which was widely syndicated at that point.

Lamont at times, was a PITA. I never understood what he had against Donna.

Also Lamont was a DORK-lol Cal may have been overweight but no where a Dork

Cal definitely was more loose than Lamont.
The only flaw about Sanford is the supporting cast is kind of weak. I didn't like Fred's girlfriend's maid. I notice they tried to make her be another woman for Fred to insult. It worked for Lawanda page, it's not working for this woman.

I think t worked because unlike Esther, that woman was UGLY-lol And the only weak character I saw was CISSY

I don't think Cissy's character was weak. I say the maid, and Evelyn's snobbish brother were weak.

Winston??? Now how could you not like the interactions between WINSTON and FRED??? The only Fred interaction that was boring was between him and CISSY

Their interactions were good, but his character was kind of lame. I said, CHARACTER, not interactions. But Cissy wasn't suppose to be funny.

I like all the characters, but from what I've seen so far Rollo is not as good as he was on Sanford & Son. Cissy is the weakest new character, but still good. I really like Cal, Eve, and Winston. The maid is not bad and Cliff is fresh.

But doesn't a character make the INTERACTION?? If the character was that boring I would not laugh when I see him talking to Fred. You didn't see when Winston was trying to act black?-LOL

So Winston, Cissy, Rollo and the maid were gone for season 2 I see. They are not in the credits now.

And now in the 6:30pm episode, Evelyn is not in the credits. Only Fred, Cal and Cliff.

In all honesty, Cissy was never needed, she was the DAUGHTER of Fred's Girlfriend-lol

In one of the upcoming eps you will see some old sanford and son faces like GRADY and Ole Money Grip, who are in the same episode.

I've personally enjoyed it very much. Much better than I expected. I'm surprised it was cancelled. Just how bad at the time WERE the ratings? I do think they should of kept some other familiar faces (Grady, used Rollo better, Esther, Donna) while mixing them with the new (Cal, Cliff). I think that might of gone over better.

But the show is quite good and very funny.

I haven't seen all the episodes yet, but so far I'm liking season 1 more than season 2. For some reason I like Evelyn more than Donna. This show is better than I expected it to be

I also thought it was really sad watching the episode where Fred had the heart attack for real, considering the irony. Cal and his nephew didn't believe him when he said he wasn't feeling well. And when Redd had the real heart attack, people around him thought he was joking.

I had always read and heard bad things about Sanford, but after having seen the series yesterday I have to say that I found it to be quite good and I wish it would have been on longer. The interaction between Cal and Fred was good, and overall I enjoyed the series a lot! I'm happy I recorded all of them onto DVD so now I can have to watch over and over because I have a feeling this show will never be released on DVD!
