Whoever created the vacum must have loved noises. I was vacuming my aunts house and I kinda jump every time I turned it on. I do that with all vacums I use. My aunts, my moms. We can think of new cell phones every few seconds but we can't think of a soundless vacum? WTH?

Actually if you're in a home and have a central vacuum system it can be fairly quiet. The canister is usually mounted in the garage (if it's attached) or the basement. Most of the roar stays there. Although once you're up close to that canister - watch out! It's hearing protection time.

Good point - I think everyone hates the sound of the vacuum.

I heard the Dyson Vacuum was supposedly quiet. I'd like to find out for myself but they are kinda pricey.

Not only do I find the sound of the vacuum awful, but I'll pile on here, and state how much I hate to actually vacuum, lol. No housework chore thrills me, but that's one of my least favorite ones.

I hear ya. I'd rather be taken behind the shed and be beat than have to do chores.

I have a Dyson and while it's not as loud as most vacuums it's not quiet either. With suction that powerful though...it's pretty darn good on the noise!
