There have been some sources saying that the series finale of Family Ties was to have the Keaton Family die in a plane crash. They wanted to close off any chances of a reunion in the future. How would you feel if the Keaton family had died in a plane crash?

What sources?

I never heard of this before and I was a big FT fan back in the 80's. I would have hated it. I think most fans would have and Gary David Goldberg never would have lived it down.

I agree with you Sonny. That's why I ask, what sources, because it sounds like that was made up.

It's probably internet rumors. I used to read all sorts of articles on FT and I never read that. I do know that they were supposed to have Alex move to NY during the last season but that was scratched because of the writers strike.

I believe it was something that Micheal Gross said as a joke, because he "Didnt want to do one of those reunion movies, 20 years later!"

Seriously, if a cast doesn't want to do a reunion show they could just say, "No thank you." Simple. That sounds so far-fetched to say lets kill them off because they don't want to reunite. No one is forced to do reunions.

Ahhhh yea I can see that. I know they had always said that their was never going to be a reunion of any kind.

I remember hearing a few years ago that a few of the cast members joked about having the Keaton family die in a plane crash. They weren't serious about it, though. I know that the cast and Goldberg didn't want to ever have any reunions, but there's no way they would have killed the family off in a plane crash.

It's probably a joke that some people have taken way out of context.

You are correct. For some reason, I thought maybe Meredith or Justine said the same thing too. So I went to the Family Ties page at wiki to see if they had any info and I found this link.

There's no need for that. It's against the rules.

Oh. I didn't find it anywhere I looked. Guess I just had to look harder.

I know my FT trivia and had no idea about this little tidbit.

That's horrible! I'm glad they didn't have them be all killed in a plane crash! That is really morbid!:(

It was more the actors joking about it. It wasn't going to actually happen, it was all one big joke because they didn't want reunions.

I do know the entire series finale script was rewritten because so many were unhappy with it. Obviously it had nothing to do with a plane crash though. The Keaton's die in a plane crash would of probably hurt the syndicated ratings a lot as well.
