View Full Version : Would you be surprised if you asked someone 77 years old this question and they said
TVFactFan 03-03-2008, 11:37 AM "I wish I can tell you"
HUH?? I currently have STIFFNESS under the knee and in the calf area and It seems to be a tightness of the muscles and I asked this 77 year old man at my job what is the best to treat something like this and he says-"he don;t know??-lol
As long as he been in the world and he gives me a silly answer like that??
I'm really shocked right now because I never thought in a million years that he would give me a answer like that
PlayOn 03-03-2008, 11:41 AM Maybe he's healthy as horse and never a day of trouble with his joints. *shrug*

That's hard to believe-lol I'm sure he has had some aches and pains in his lifetime
Brieannas21 03-03-2008, 01:14 PM Well he's no doctor, he's just a senior citizen.
TVFactFan 03-03-2008, 02:21 PM Well he's no doctor, he's just a senior citizen.
Yeah I guess you are right, well I asked a 67 year old woman the same question and she said try ICY HOT
Ireneparalegal 03-03-2008, 02:23 PM YOu could have asked me that question 10 years ago and I would have told you. I am far from being a senior citizen, but I have endured pain and can tell you every remedy in the book and then some. ;)
You obviously haven't read the stories Janice, Tripperfan and Lauren (TrapperandHawkeye's baby) have posted abt our chronic pain.
Not all old people have joint problems.

so what's the best way to treat a sore calf muscle and stiffness behind the knee?
Ireneparalegal 03-03-2008, 02:29 PM You can try that. See how that works. I have used Icy Hot for a knee problem. I like the one where you can peel off the sticky to it and stick it right on your leg. Also, using a heat pad on the knee and then ice the knee. Do the heat for abt 15 minutes and then ice it for abt the same time or longer. Not too long though. Take some Ibuprofin / Motrin, it helps muscle stiffness, swelling, pain, etc.

thanks, will get on the way home
Brieannas21 03-03-2008, 03:59 PM Try a hot soak in the bath, it helps me some after I do my run.
LuLu Rogers 03-03-2008, 04:37 PM My doctor has always told me ice is better than heat. Take it from someone who has to ice down her knees almost every day. ;)
Like Irene mentioned above, you don't have to be old to have these aches and pains. Take me for example, I'm only 20.
Ireneparalegal 03-03-2008, 05:48 PM Remember Solomon, give it time for each remedy we give you. Things like that take time to feel better. You might have hurt yourself. We each have had things that work for us and maybe not for someone else.

Oh I know I just assumed he has been sore many of times between 1931 and 2008 and would have something to tell me that would defintely help. He proved today that AGE is defintely nothing but a NUMBER-LOL

How true! I know a 90 year old man who walks several miles a day and has no problem getting on the floor to play and roll around with his 10+ grandkids. And I know people my age (20) who won't even do that.

You're asking a 77 year old about something "STIFF"? And you wonder why he couldn't answer? I'm sure it's been a while since he's experienced ANYTHING stiff!! ;)

Never heard of that. Where'd you find it? I could always use something good after a hard workout and as good as Bengay works...I can't go around smelling like a tin of altoids all day lol.

Any local pharmacy should have it or you can get it on line. A co-worker of mine in her 50's said her grandmother Used TIGER BALM-lol
It does say on the jar-"IT' been around for 100 years"

Holy cow - where'd you put the tiger balm on Solomon? I hope not too high on the thigh! That stuff burns baby!
(the first time I used it - it was extra strength and I put it on the soft skin under the eyes. Even after washing several times it was still burning! lol )

Believe me, Tiger Balm stinks too. Smells more like Vick's Vaporub tho.
It does work. I use it on the joints in my fingers when my RA and Fibro act up. Just don't get it near any "sensitive" areas shall we say. ;)
