Ted Danson had just come from a draining, all-day shoot and was in a pensive mood. He told a small group of reporters gathered at the cavernous Brooklyn sound stage where "Damages" is shot that he hates watching himself on screen.

A lot of actors say that, but Danson really means it. He's so judgmental about his own performances that he's only recently been able to watch "Cheers," which ran from 1982 to '93.

He thought he was terrible in that role and remembers, after shooting the pilot, going up to co-creator and director James Burrows "literally in tears, saying, 'No, I can't do this, I'm no good.' " Burrows thought otherwise and, for 11 seasons, so did audiences across North America.
