The freshman FOX comedy Back to You made its post-strike return to TV this week, airing after American Idol and — perhaps not surprisingly — scoring the series’ highest ratings to date (and the most non-Idol viewers of the night). Post-"Idol" placement can be like a shot of rocket fuel, but it’s not a sure thing. Some shows haven’t been able to do enough with it to survive.

This is a good showing for Back to You, though, and bodes well for the series, which stars two people who know a little something about sitcom success: Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond) and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier). Brian, don't panic. Over 12 million viewers isn't shabby. Like I said before, nobody in their right mind expected BTY to retain all or even nearly all of AI viewers. Since when do sitcoms on FOX go anywhere near 20 million viewers? As Felix stated, there was the writer's strike that had a negative impact. I honestly think they'll give it a second season. Don't worry.

Good question, FOX hasn't made any announcements on renewals yet. Every other network has already made renewals. So it is anybody's guess.

Isn't FOX always late with renewals? Honestly, I think we're worrying for nothing. I'm expecting Back to You to be one of the first shows, if not the first, to get the renewal from FOX. There's no way they'd give up on this show, after 1 tough season, without a second shot and a normal season.

Besides BTY, I can see why FOX isn't making any renewals. They don't have one show that did outstandingly well for them this year.

Normally, I would agree with you, but a lot of the networks are trying to cut back on production costs considering the money they lost due to the strike. BTY has got to be pretty expensive because of the price tags of Patricia and Kelsey.

Don't get me wrong, I think it will be renewed...perhaps as a mid season replacement or maybe with a shorter episode order, but I really do think it will get a second season.

I'd hate to see it come back for midseason only - that would make the show lose even more momentum than it lost during the strike. If FOX wants to allow the show build an audience, they should give it a whole season.

Another thing, even before the strike, when Back to You was only getting around 6.5 million, FOX gave it a full 24-episode order, the first show they did that with for the season. That just gives us more hope that it'll get another season. I guess it really all depends on how it does come April.
