Loved this show back in the day, but didn't get to see all the seasons, so I'm picking them up now, and I've seen SO many with Woody; I'm just a little bored of him, that's all.
Anyone ?

View Full Version : Just a little tired of the Woody character .... Chocolate Moose 02-27-2008, 11:36 AM Loved this show back in the day, but didn't get to see all the seasons, so I'm picking them up now, and I've seen SO many with Woody; I'm just a little bored of him, that's all. Anyone ? Mikado 02-27-2008, 05:36 PM I could never get tired of Woody, i mean, how can you not like lines like his answer to Dr Crane's saying that "You catch more flies with honey than vinegar!" with "Excuse me Dr Crane, but, you catch the most with dead squirells!"  (Classic!!!) AB 02-27-2008, 05:59 PM I'm a Woody fan too! I always preferred his episodes over Coaches. Mikado 02-27-2008, 06:06 PM I'm a Woody fan too! I always preferred his episodes over Coaches. I loved them equally...it's amazing that Coach had such an impact as he was only on the show for 3 of 11 seasons....maybe thats cause Woody was really a younger version of Coach, in so many ways (Great characters each, unlike most "dumb" characters on TV, they were likeable and believeable because they werent really so much stupid as just a little less sophisticated) Argyle 02-29-2008, 04:34 PM Both were fantastic. As were both Diane and Rebecca. A show that lasts 11 years is going to undergo cast changes, and that's a part of life. To Cheers' great credit, the writing was so stellar throughout the show's run that it never skipped a beat when old characters left and new ones replaced them. Mikado, I agree, that quote of Woody's about the dead squirrels was one of the absolute laugh out loud moments in Cheers' history. So was this beauty from Coach: Coach: What's your name, honey? Blonde at bar: It's Brandee. With two 'e's. Coach (looking at bottle label): Two 'e's? Imagine a big company like that spelling it wrong. Mikado 02-29-2008, 09:28 PM ^^^^ Ireneparalegal 02-29-2008, 09:31 PM I loved them equally...it's amazing that Coach had such an impact as he was only on the show for 3 of 11 seasons....maybe thats cause Woody was really a younger version of Coach, in so many ways (Great characters each, unlike most "dumb" characters on TV, they were likeable and believeable because they werent really so much stupid as just a little less sophisticated) That's how I feel abt the character, Vera on Alice. She had some sophistication though. She loved old movies and she had smarts. ;) I loved the Woody character so much. I couldn't stand the moments or episodes that involved his girlfriend Kelly. Woody could stand on his own, he didn't need a girlfriend. Well, he could have one, but I could have done without seeing her. Hearing abt her like Norm's wife would have been just as good. Mikado 02-29-2008, 10:19 PM I agree with you that the Kelly character didnt add much to the show, on the other hand, we'd have never have had the "Kelly(Kelly Kelly Kelly....Kelly Kelly Kelly...K-E-L-L-Y) Song" without her! Ireneparalegal 02-29-2008, 10:20 PM I agree with you that the Kelly character didnt add much to the show, on the other hand, we'd have never have had the "Kelly(Kelly Kelly Kelly....Kelly Kelly Kelly...K-E-L-L-Y) Song" without her! The way I feel, I could have done without that too. It was annoying. And so was she. ;) Mikado 02-29-2008, 11:54 PM Well, the Kelly song was no Watchin' Girl, but, it wasnt THAt bad ;) SpunkiiMonkii7078 03-01-2008, 08:26 PM Aw, I love Woody. I'll never get sick of him. I haven't seen all of the Kelly episodes, but I sort of like her. I think her and Woody make a cute couple. Mikado 03-01-2008, 09:08 PM ^^^Love your screename! ^^^ Moondance 03-02-2008, 07:17 AM Woody was adorable! I loved him and his stories about Hanover, Indiana!! SpunkiiMonkii7078 03-02-2008, 01:57 PM ^^^Love your screename! ^^^ Thanks. :) Mikado 03-02-2008, 07:54 PM Another thing is, I think without Woody (and Lillith) , the last 5 years would have been unwatcheable....I never cared for Rebecca in the least and Sam just seemed to deteriorate into a real scumbag once Diane left. Moondance 03-06-2008, 03:23 PM Another thing is, I think without Woody (and Lillith) , the last 5 years would have been unwatcheable....I never cared for Rebecca in the least and Sam just seemed to deteriorate into a real scumbag once Diane left. I couldn't agree with you more. I love Diane Chambers :) She was too good for Sam, but the "couple" was priceless. Lilith was her best on "Cheers" and it did carry over to "Frasier", but on that show, she was just the cold/bitter ex-wife, and that was hilarious. I say to "Frasier" fans who never watched "Cheers" to see both sides of Lilith. Woody is a lil teddy bear!!!! :) McFly121 03-13-2008, 03:09 PM I guess I preferred Woody because he was more current in his silly observations. Comparing big city stuff to farming life and his more matter-of-fact reactions to the other character's dialogue. And any time Woody would break into his hysterical cry was priceless. :) Or even times when his point would be pea-brained it would still make sense: Cliff: "If the Brady Bunch crashed in the Andes, who would they eat first?" Woody: "Well, they'd probly eat the maid first cuz she aint kin." Whazzup2007! 06-29-2008, 12:00 PM I agree. Woody and Coach are pretty good characters in the show. Gold and Red 02-26-2010, 06:45 PM Another great coach line. Diane- "Excuse me. Where is your bathroom?" Coach- "Next to my bedroom." I like woody, but coach is my favorite. oldguywithsticks 02-27-2010, 01:46 AM Aw, Woody is awesome. Always viewed him as a younger Coach, and while I ever so slightly prefer Coach, there's no denying Woody's awesomeness. His jump over the bar is priceless, and his Hanover stories never tire, especially in the way everybody reacts to them. |
