too bad the coverart isn't the same as the UK version! but otherwise, I can't wait. Hope this sells good enough to convince Sony to release season 7 (with the Salem episodes) this year too!

This is great, it's going to be released a few days before my birthday.

For those of you who don't want to bother looking at the link, here's the cover art:

I actually liked the previous color better, they already did red with season three. Just like seasons one and five are basically the same color, seasons three and six will basically be the same color.

I have seasons 1 thru 4 on DVD, I'll probably just stick with those because the series wasn't as good anymore from season five onward. Dick Sargent was an OK replacement for Dick York, the problem was the show started losing steam in season five, and just went further downhill during the last three seasons. If you notice beginning with the fifth season, they started using "Samantha" a lot in the episode titles. This was not a good sign, and many of these later episodes were rehashes of previous ones. Original episodes from the later seasons often went too far over the top.

Yup, those are my exact thoughts, if Dick York stayed thoughout the whole series, I would buy all of them

Same here. I think we're the only ones who liked the Dick Sargent era, I loved the whole pregnancy storyline.

I've always liked Dr. Bombay. He wasn't seen often (17 episodes total, 11 of those coming in the Dick Sargent seasons.) If Dr. Bombay had been more of a regular character, I might be more inclined to buy the later seasons on DVD. Any episode with Dr. Bombay is always funny.

I'll be getting the Sargent ones. I think there was still much to like about the show. In Super Arthur in season 6? One of my favs.

It seems this set will get no extras and still no news on a complete set which some extras were filmed for. I can't believe the UK sets are over taking the US ones. Makes no sense...

I'm sure I'll probably buy season 6, even though I prefer the Dick York seasons more. I haven't seen a lot of the episodes, so it will be fun to watch them. :)

Well, I enjoyed the show no matter what era. I admit I prefer Dick York as Darrin, but that isn't going to stop me from buying every season.;)

Elizabeth Montgomery and Agnes Moorehead
Are Back for Pure Comedic Magic, with
Dick Sargent’s Debut as Darrin

BEWITCHED:

THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON
All 30 Episodes Arrive on DVD May 6 in a 4-disc Boxed Set

Culver City, Calif. (March 3, 2008) – Dick Sargent takes over the role of Darrin Stephens, joining Emmy®-nominated Elizabeth Montgomery and Agnes Moorehead for Bewitched: The Complete Sixth Season which debuts on DVD May 6 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The DVD includes all 30 episodes from the Emmy®-nominated sixth season in a 4-disc boxed set. The DVD will be available for $39.95 SRP.

Bewitched chronicles the nose-twitching marriage of Samantha and Darrin Stephens. They seem like an ordinary suburban family – she’s a charming housewife, he’s a Madison Avenue advertising exec – but there’s one slight difference: Samantha’s a witch. Samantha promises not to use her witchcraft, yet despite her best intentions, magic permeates the Stephenses’ household.

The sixth season’s classic episodes include: Tabitha (Erin Murphy) running away to be in “Jack and the Beanstalk” because she is jealous of her baby brother; Darrin (Sargent) being frozen into a mirror when Maurice finds out the baby isn’t named after him; Endora (Moorehead), upset at Samantha (Montgomery) for celebrating Halloween, turning Darrin into a warlock; Uncle Arthur (Paul Lynde) botching his magic hat trick at Tabitha’s (Erin Murphy) birthday party and pulling a Playboy bunny out of his hat instead; Serena, Samantha’s wacky cousin, returning to complicate things; and Samantha trying to find a way to get rid of Santa when he overstays his welcome. Guest stars include Emmy® nominee Jack Cassidy (TV’s “Columbo: Murder by the Book”), Johnny Whitaker (TV’s “General Hospital”), Danny Bonaduce (TV’s “The Partridge Family”), and Lloyd Bochner (TV’s “Dynasty”).

Bewitched originally aired on ABC September 17, 1964, and the series became an instant hit with critics and audiences, ultimately airing 256 episodes over eight seasons. Produced and directed by William Asher (TV’s “I Love Lucy,” “Gidget”), Bewitched was nominated for 22 Emmy Awards® over the course of its run, winning three.

I'm not a fan of the Sargent era - not necessarily because of him (to me, Dick York was and is the only Darrin) but because the show was running out of ideas and the constant script recycling didn't help. So I'm content with the first 5 seasons and won't be adding to them. That said, the cover art is gorgeous!! I love that magenta color. :)

The original color of the box was going to be yellow/orange, I liked that a lot better than the magenta. It looks too much like season three, just like season five looks too much like season one. I have the first four seasons, those are good enough for me. I think season five is when the show started going downhill.

And weren't there problems reported with the season five DVD's? I heard that there were defects in some episodes.

The sitcoms online review of season five states the video quality isn't on par with the earlier season sets. That's what I was referring to when mentioning defects.

I feel the same way - the visual quality of Season 5 isn't that good - which at times takes away from the viewing pleasure.

That isn't a disc problem then, its what they used from the masters.
Even in syndication, season 5 always looked faded and drab, as opposed to how bright and crisp season 3 looks!

I noticed that, too! Season 4 is also very crisp and vibrant looking.

It then picks up again with Season 6--they look sharp! But by Season 8, it seems the prints are again washed out!

That's just Sony being lazy again--they are using the syndicated opening for all the Dick Sargent episodes. Just like seasons 1-5, they used the same generic season 1 theme for all of Dick York episodes. WOULD IT HAVE KILLED SONY TO HAVE RESTORED THE PROPER THEME SONGS TO EACH SEASON? I could have lived seeing the original sponsor openings, even if it were just as bonuses.

well we should expect this by this type of crap now from sony it's really lame i mean sony is a worldwide company they should have enough money to restore classic shows! In also don't like how with season 3 how my friend ben and the 2nd part Samantha for defense was edited come on sony that's lame!!:o

Sony has pulled a number of sneaky edits on the I Dream Of Jeannie DVD's. The edits take away from the enjoyment of the episodes. As far as I can tell, they've been pretty kind to Bewitched. I have the first four seasons, the episodes seem uncut except for a few questionable ones in season three. Samantha For The Defense is one of those, the opening scene was cut.

I think the black and white seasons originally had different opening credits, which haven't been seen in years. When the episodes went into syndication, the more familiar opening credit that began with the third season was tagged on to the black and white episodes also. This is how those episodes are seen today.

When Nick at Nite reran the first two seasons, the original opening was there (minus sponsor tags of course)--the kitchen had cabinets, and the stove was separated from the other stuff, plus there was a door. The cat was also white in this version.
