View Full Version : The "Get Smart" Book Series
ClassicTVGal 02-13-2008, 05:19 PM Has any one here ever read any of the Get Smart books?
I recieved 5 in the mail today and have started one. I can already see differences from it and the show, lol.
But I'm looking forward to reading them anyway.
Mikado 02-13-2008, 11:53 PM I saw one for sale in a used book store once, but, after skimming it, decided not to buy it, they had Max teamed up with someone BESIDES 99 and I dont even think he was working for the Chief........It made me wonder if the writer had even SEEN the show....it made me think of a non-cannon fan fic, so, I wasnt interested. (I think 99 is only in one of the books, if i recall)
Mikado 02-14-2008, 12:31 AM ok, i looked it up, 99 isnt in the first 3 books, but, no doubt by popular demand, she is in the last 6 (of 9)
tv star collector 02-14-2008, 08:48 AM I absolutely loved William Johnston's series of Get Smart books
(and his other TV-related books, for that matter). I thought they were
hilarious! I even gave a book report in high school on "Sorry, Chief," the
second one in the series (and the first one that I read). After that, I bought
"Get Smart," "Get Smart Once Again" and "Missed It By That Much." Agent 99
wasn't in the first book, but she definitely was in the second one ("Sorry,
Chief"), as well as the fifth one ("Missed It By That Much").
I have also read one of his Flying Nun books and one of his Happy
Days books. Besides paperbacks, he also wrote Whitman juvenile books
(hardcover) based on Gilligan's Island and The Munsters. I have
the Gilligan book. The Whitman books have illustrations (Gilligan's Island is
illustrated by comic-book artist Robert L. Jenney). But the Get Smart
books are his best, esp. "Sorry, Chief." Who but Maxwell Smart would find
himself trapped in a roomful of oatmeal??
Carrie 02-14-2008, 12:00 PM Interesting. I didn't know there was a Get Smart book series. Where did you get yours Erin?

I didn't either until I was broswing around a site a while back.
I have Get Smart, Max Smart and the Perilous Pellets, Missed It By That Much!, And Loving It! and Max Smart Loses Control.
I see that the author (so far) as him say "Max Smart" instead of "Maxwell Smart", they live in New York instead of D.C. and Max drives a black car.
I got mine from Ebay, Carrie.

I'm a pretty picky person about some things... I'm trying to not let it "get" to me. If I end up not liking them, I'll either give them away, sell them, or just donate them to our library.
Mikado 02-15-2008, 12:57 AM Well, keep us posted :)
ClassicTVGal 02-15-2008, 01:03 AM Well, keep us posted :)

ClassicTVGal 02-15-2008, 11:21 PM Thanks!
You are most certainly welcome! :)
