Last night I was watching Alice and something finally triggered with me when it came to Vera and her character.

She is clearly the oddest character of all time!!!

Ok.. at one time I thought her backstory was maybe she was struck by lighting:lol:

But now I think I finally caught it....

I think Vera used to be a Charles Manson Follower!!!:happyface

Maybe a follower that wasn't caught. If you think about it the show takes place in Arizona which is close to California. Maybe she followed Manson, did tons of acid and other drugs, maybe even was asked to kill, but she left before that happened and is NOW trying to start a new life.

She comes off like a half/deprogrammed Cult member. That was the prime time for Cults in the mid 1970's.. I think Vera's Backstory has something to do with being in a cult.

Look how she acts. Look how she is so freaked out by everything! Look how she is so thin skinned to everything, she cries at a drop of a hat! She isn't smart, She uses all her brain to do a simple job. Compare her to the other girls.. they just do their job, Vera is trying her best to be average at that job!

There is a creepy secret edge to Vera, something that hasnt ever been explored by any other sitcom character! I am thinking her backstory has something to do with being in a cult - her running away & trying to hide is a small simple world - with nothing to do with yelling or pain.

creepy but funny.

She isn't smart

Vera is the smartest character on the show. She was the only one who knew how to open the safe that was left by "Slim" when he sold Mel the diner.

Also, she's one of the few adult characters on TV who never forgot what it's like to be a child. I really like that about her.

I think she was at her dumbest during the first season. I mean she thought George Burns was really God because of a movie! That was just totally crazy.

Not to be picky, but that was actually a 2nd season episode.
So evidently she was still at her dumbest in the 2nd season too. :D
