What is it about this episode that makes us like it so much? Probably everything.
1) The script was solid, from beginning to end. It was written perfectly for the hour format, unlike the Tallulah episode, which felt more like two half-hour episodes strung together, or many of the other episodes that had slow-moving filler material stuck in the script to fill out the hour. Every moment in this episode mattered and was necessary to the plot;
2) The show provided a showcase for Lucille Ball to demonstrate her brilliant physical comedy: the brilliant scene in the bedroom, the miming in the courtroom, for example;
3) The chemistry between ALL the cast members was amazing. Some of the actors had never worked together, but they played off one another so perfectly, it felt as if they had been working together forever;
4) Nobody was overshadowed in this episode. ALL of the cast members were given their own special moments to shine, with great, memorable lines given to every actor: Danny Thomas, Rusty Hamer and Angela Cartwright during the breakfast scene; Vivian and Bill and during the courtroom scene; Marjorie Lord and EVERYBODY else in the snow fight scene;
5) Even the minor supporting characters were brilliant and funny, like Gale Gordon as the judge.
6) Some of the greatest and funniest lines, like Lucy explaining to Ethel why sneaking in and taking the unsigned check is not stealing.
Great writing, fast-paced script, great cast, wonderful chemistry among all, great acting, no slow moments, it was the perfect show in every respect. Personally, I think this episode is far superior to all the other hour-long episodes.
SPLAIN 02-12-2008, 10:43 AM Exactly, it's also the one episode from that series that HOLDS UP still today, it's timeless and funny as hell. When they released it as We Love Lucy years ago, Lucie Arnaz interviewed Danny at one point and he said so himself and he was so right. The scene in the bed with Lucy and Danny is probably my all time favorite scene of her doing comedy, so natural, so real. Add to that, the toaster, slamming of the door, probably Little Ricky's best laugh ever, the plant watering, the Marjorie Lord GET UP on Lucy with the kerchief, the adult storyline of Ricky and Marjorie suspecting hanky panky, the court room scenes with Gale Gordon, the snowball fight, the argument about the rent, Lucy missing her HOME, just everything. These looked like REAL characters, doing crazy but very funny things.
Lodee 02-15-2008, 12:11 PM I think that episode is actually one of my least favorites of the LDCH. I've always liked the one where she gets the job on the morning show the best.

And i never cared much for that one, until i watched it again and saw the waiting room scene where Lucy competes for that morning show job and fixes herself up. But i cannot stand watching her fall head first into that cereal bowl, that HAD to hurt, hope she got hazard pay!:lol:
Lodee 02-15-2008, 03:11 PM Now how did I know you were going to say that about her falling into that bowl of cereal?
SPLAIN 02-18-2008, 10:53 AM Honey, i've been posting about this same subject for years now, i'm bound to have lots of reruns here and there, LOL!:lol:
