How do you feel about Valentine's Day? I've always hated it because:
1. I'm usually single
2. I've been dumped on Valentine's Day
3. I've been physically hurt on this day, I even got the chicken pox on V-day one year!

I do have a Valentine this year for this first time in my life and I think it's very special, but I still don't really care for this holiday. What about you guys?

I'm a romantic at heart, so I actually like Valentine's day.

I gave up candy for lent, so my usual practice of buying Valentine's chocolate at half price on the 15th is not going to happen this year.

Dammit!

I don't hate it but I don't exactly love it since I don't have that "special someone"(or even a "ordinary someone");) . Plus I always thought that I hated the idea of just picking one day a year to show someone how much you love them. Why can't that be everyday? Same goes for Mother's & Father's Day.

I keep hearing commercials about buying your sweetheart candy. Aren't most women watching their weight? If somebody got me a huge heart shaped box of chocolates, I would try to hide my disappointment. I don't want that!! That would take me forever to eat!!

I hate it, period. Even when I had a SO over VD.

I hate that holiday so much, I call it VD and nothing else because, yes, I want other people to conjure up images of the STD when I say that. It's absolutely ****ing POINTLESS. What is the ****ing point of VD? Big ****ing deal. VD isn't a federal holiday, so nobody gets that day off. You can be REALLY romantic any time of the year. You don't need VD to prove that. Big ****ing deal. I would be so ****ing happy if VD disappeared off the calendar forever.

i absolutely loathe it- its pointless, unimportant and a waste of time.
i don't understand why there has to be a special day to say how much you love your partner, when we do that every day anyway. well, almost everyone. i am single myself but happy. its just an excuse to scam people out of their money. if i had to abolish one particular holiday in the calendar it would be, without a shadow of a doubt valentine's day.

it is a load of crock, it is probably the most pointless day ever, i just cannot be done with all that lovey dovey crap

It just reminds me how much I need a man... oh well, at least there's candy.

Never really thought a lot about it. Just another holiday to get you to buy cards & candy & flowers & jewelry I suppose. lol!

hate it...it's overhyped and overblown. it's really an extremely artifical "holiday". just a way for stores to get more money and customers.

like Allison said, it's not like you need it to prove to someone that you love them or that you're romantic, and if you DO need it to prove to your boy/girlfriend that you love them, then obviously it's not a great relationship.

I'm middle of the road. If you have a relationship going then it can be a fun holiday. If you are single then, to me, it wouldn't have any meaning and should be much of a care or a burden.

I like this holiday, but I'm not into the commercialization of it. I'd rather just make dinner and cuddle, but something shiny is always nice. :D

My sentiments exactly. I just think it's a holiday for people to feel bad about themselves. That's such crap...if you love someone, you don't need a special day set aside to tell/show them so.

eh...i don't hate it, but it's not my favorite holiday. i agree...the whole point of setting aside one special day only to celebrate love is stupid. whether you're showing love to your boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, friend, or parents...it's an over-hyped holiday that allows the card companies and chocolate factories to make extra moolah. people should celebrate life and love EVERY DAY...not just on valentine's day. same goes for mother's day & father's day.

I hate it, its depressing, just reminds me that i'm 46 , have never been married and, at this point in my life I likely never will be or ever be a Dad.....not to mention Feb 14 is to the day, when i turn XX 1/2 (exactly 6 months to the day from my birthday, and 6 months until I have another b'day)

I agree. It's just a way for Hallmark and Russell Stover to make a killing. If my boyfriend feels the need to buy me flowers, I'd rather he do it when the prices aren't jacked up through the roof. What a ripoff. And no, I don't want a box of chocolates either. Too many in there I don't like. Another waste of money. I get homemade cards. That's perfect.

I dont love it or hate it... i really just dont care about it. It never even bothered me when i was single...and i dont make a big deal out of it now. Like someone else said, it's a good way of russel stover and hallmark getting ample business off of people who actually buy people that stuff. I say, if you really want to give a good valentines gift, be original and drop the usual box of chocolates and flowers.

When I was single, if I was w/o girlfriend that year, I'd HATE it. If I was with girlfriend, something would always come up and so I'd never go through a standard romantic VD. Once you're married, though, it's really not a day on the calendar... unlike the anniversary. :)

So I don't care.

Wow, what's with all the Valentine's Day hate?

It's simply a nice, innocent, socially constructed holiday used to stimulate a relatively low, after Christmas economy.

Spread the joy.

I'm not a fan of Valentine's Day. I've never had a special person and it doesn't look like I ever will. Valentine's Day makes people who aren't with someone feel bad.

it makes us single people feel as if you don't have someone special to share it with then it means you're a loser in some way. which is total bull. besides, if we have valentine's day, then why not also have a special day for single people as well?

I voted I DON'T CARE ABOUT VALENTINES DAY I have to work that day so it doesn't bother me. lol.
Plus, I don't see my boyfriend till Friday night after Work. So i don't care about that holiday. The only Holidays i care about is Christmas and New years,

I find Valentine's Day is be very over rated; even when I am in a relationship, and I am very indifferent about this holiday; any day of the year can be romantic when you are with someone you love...why wait till February 14th to prove it?

I totally agree :)
