Looks Like Me-TV will have a sister station, ME-TOO.

From Chicago Sun-Times

From those wonderful folks who brought you "The U" and "Me-TV" now comes another channel of classic TV.
In the latest brand extension from Chicago-based Weigel Broadcasting, WFBT-Channel 48 is becoming WMEU-Channel 48.

Welcome to "Me-Too."

Starting March 1, the station will turn into a companion to WWME-Channel 23, the home of vintage reruns known as "Me-TV." Between the two, more than 100 different series will be aired.

Brokered ethnic and foreign language programming now on Channel 48 will switch to one of six digital channels of Weigel's WCIU-Channel 26. "Me-Too" also will be carried on Comcast Digital Channel 247 as well as WOW and RCN cable systems.

"The combination of 'Me-TV' and 'Me-Too' will allow us to expand the classic TV franchise in an unprecedented way," said Neal Sabin, executive vice president of Weigel Broadcasting.

As part of the company's overall digital strategy, Sabin said, having a second stream of classic shows will allow development of targeted blocks of programming for different demographics. It also will create a classic program stream when sports preempts regularly scheduled shows.

Among the titles on "Me-Too" will be a Sunday "Noir at Night" block of "Route 66," "Naked City," "77 Sunset Strip" and "Boris Karloff's Thriller."

A Saturday night "pajama party" lineup will feature "Square Pegs," "Silver Spoons," "Facts of Life," "The Monkees," "The Brady Bunch" and "The Partridge Family."

I just don't understand it. This is a local franchise and they are ten times smarter about programming than TVLand, which should have did this years ago. They really have it together in Chicago. I've noticed Me-TV 23 has started to get away from older shows. It's great that they are creating a new network so that they can air the newer shows, but now have a place for the older ones. TVLand, are you listening?

We just did a story on this on our blog:

We will have the full launch schedule very soon...so keep checking back!

For those that don't already know, Me-TV has done PHENOMENAL here in Chicago..ratings have been either very very high or through the roof since they launched the original Me-TV. The great thing about this is, this announcement came out of NOWHERE. Even with living in the Chicago area, there was not even so much as a hint this announcement was coming! All of a sudden I saw it on Monday. I'll be very interested in seeing how this sister station does. Every possible big name old TV series or sitcom you can think of has been shown at some point on the original Me-TV so I really don't know what else they can possibly put on that they already haven't. Will be interesting indeed.

It will be interesting too to see if RTN gets an affiliate here in Chicago..the RTN people keep saying they want national coverage so we'lll see. But, I think with Me-TV and now the announcement of Me-Too that might make RTN less likely to get a Chicago affiliate. I hope I'm wrong and it will. I think if the cards are played right it can co-exist with Me-TV plus the new sister station.

Next year when everything goes to Digital TV will be quite intriguing to say the least, it will allow all the major markets to try new things and maybe get even more stations than exist currently. I think there will certainly be a lot of expansion in different markets as Digital TV will make expansion and adding new things MUCH easier in my opinion.

Well, March 1st will be an interesting day here in Chicago and I'm glad Milwaukee will finally get to experience Me-TV as well.

From Me-TV's website, here's the schedule for
"ME-TOO": http://www.metvchicago.com/pdf/Winter-2007-2008-METV556AA.pdf

I hope they'll go national at some point in time....I think Me-TV and RTN could co-exist if done properly.

GOD, I wish I had this channel. It'd be nice for a network I actually have that would pick up FOL, and I haven't seen Eight is Enough or Cagney & Lacey in years. And Love, American Style! As soon as I got cable again it was gone from Oxygen.

IMO, the Saturday schedule is much better than the weekday one. Too bad those two couldn't be reversed.

I wish the shows from the Saturday Night Pajama Party were more of a reflection of the rest of the schedule. Luckily I'm not really home Saturdays during the day but if I was, those military shows would not interest me in the slightest. I'm also not crazy at all about the weekday shows basically anytime after noon. (Besides FOL)
