after "Stronger", Kanye went into some newly composed song about his mom in hopes for some last minute sympathy votes. I just knew he would resort to using this to hope for some Grammys, knowing what a sore loser he is.

Yes, so that really can't help him at all.

I love his "I'm Elvis" ego, he has only been around for about four years and has only had about 2-3 hits.

I know. I'm glad he pointed out that 2 other people are equally as deserving of album of the year as he is, but screw the other 2 nominees.

there's a handful of celebrities who are egomaniacs and have EARNED THE RIGHT. Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, Mick Jagger, Aretha Franklin, Cher, etc... They all made much larger impacts than Kanye has ever made and had more hits and far more albums. I am not a hip hop fan, but I think Jay-Z (who was up for the same award) is more entitled to that type of ego than Kanye. Oh well, on "The Other Shore", everyone is making fun of his pompous attitude, it's fun.

Aretha is one of the greatest, but she was wearing too little IMO. Did we want to see her all sleeveless and with her cleavage? she must be 400 lbs.

when and how did Foo Fighters suddenly become "legendary"? When Jason Bateman announced them as "the greatest living rock band", I was sure it would be U2, The Rolling Stones or something along those lines. What is so special about Foo that 30 other 90's alt-rock bands didn't have? I liked some of their stuff but would they be legendary if Dave Grohl wasn't a member of Nirvana?

I'm a Foo Fighter fan, but even I have to agree with you there. They are simply a great band. They aren't up to legendary yet.

Dean Winchester
02-10-2008, 11:22 PM
yea. I give them credit for hanging in there and keeping a career long after the 90's ended, but I think they need another 10-15 years before being in that U2/Rolling Stones league. For the most part, it seems like Red Hot Chili Peppers have just started getting that treatment and they've been around a lot longer than Foo.

I'm happy that Alicia Keys won tonight! Her performances were great!

What was up with Amy Winehouse? She was trembling during her performance. Withdrawals, I guess.

I'm waiting for Kanye to have a tantrum after losing.

OMG, my sister & I were talking about that, too. I do like Aretha but that yellow dress...no!! Maybe something black or dark blue. I don't mean to sound shallow but we were figuring 350 lbs.

And I thought the best performance of the night was Josh Groban & Andrea Bocelli.

I wonder if Kanye is going to pull out the good ol' race card since he lost to Herbie Hancock (for album) and Rihanna/Jay-Z (for r&b collaborations), like he did when he lost to Justin Timberlake

I heard Aretha's been losing weight. I'd hate to see what she looked like six months ago then. I know it's good to show off your "new body", but Aretha has a good 150 lbs or more to go before showing off her hot bod.

SLAYER was honored with a Grammy in the "Best Metal Performance" category in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 50th annual Grammy Awards, which are being held tonight (Sunday, February 10) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. SLAYER was nominated for the track "The Final Six", from the band's 2007 limited-edition "Christ Illusion". The song, written by SLAYER's vocalist/bassist Tom Araya and guitarist Jeff Hanneman and produced by Josh Abraham, is a chilling look at an hypothesized end of the world. The track made its debut last July as the "Single of the Week" on MySpace where it has since accumulated some 750,000 plays, an astounding number for a song that received no commercial airplay.

A visibly nervous Araya accepted the award, stating, "Thank you very much. I don't know what to say. This is our second time. I have to thank Sony, first off, for reissuing the record and putting this new song on the album, and now I'm here again — we are here again, actually. Most of all, [I'd like to] thank Rick Rubin [producer and head of American Recordings], who's been with us, been there for us for the past 23 years, 24 years. Thank you. My wife, my two kids; Sandra [wife], Ariel and Tommy. They're here with me. Of course, my manager, who's been with us for a good 20 years now. Well, thank you very much. Thank the Academy. Thank you."

Check out photos of SLAYER's Tom Araya and his family at tonight's Grammy Awards at Getty Images.

SLAYER's two previous Grammy nominations were for 2002's "Disciple" from the album "God Hates Us All", and last year's "Eyes of the Insane", for which they took home the Grammy Award.

The nominees in this year's "Metal" category were as follows:

AS I LAY DYING - "Nothing Left"
KING DIAMOND - "Never Ending Hill"
MACHINE HEAD - "Aesthetics Of Hate"
SHADOWS FALL - "Redemption"
SLAYER - "Final Six"

Only albums released between October 1, 2006, and September 30, 2007, could be considered for this year's awards.

The Grammys are determined by 12,000 music industry professionals who belong to the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.

Michael didn't show up. You would've been disappointed missing it tho, since I know you're a big Prince fan, they had a Time reunion with all original members (oddly, Prince didn't jam with them, even tho he presented an award not even ten minutes prior)

I love Kanye's sense of entitlement. Okay, he lost his mom and it's sad, but does that mean he should win? I mean, Diana Ross' father passed last year too, and she's never won a major Grammy and she was a star in The Supremes when Mama Kanye was a little girl. So where's her entitlement? lol

I honestly think Kanye will never win a major Grammy in the main catagories because of being such a bad sport. If Bob Dylan had to wait 35 years to win a major Grammy, where does Kanye get off thinking he deserves his first year out like he did in 2005?

he's probably too busy reeling and trying to find a hidden racist agenda about why Herbie Hancock won Album Of The Year over him. He'll probably complain that it's not fair because he's sold more albums than Herbie did, since he used how well Gold Digger did on the charts to cry when he lost a VMA to someone else.

OK, please don't think I'm an idiot but race was mentioned a couple times pertaining to Kanye & Herbie. I'm not much of a fan of Herbie's but isn't he black, too? Why would Kanye think that race had something to do with him not winning?

Kanye brought the race card up last year on the Video Music Awards when he lost to Justin Timberlake, because Justin couldn't possibly have put out a better album or video than him?

I didn't see the Grammy's.

Apprently, you weren't the only one...

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The 50th annual Grammy Awards, featuring Amy Winehouse taking a break from rehab to perform, was the most watched U.S. television show of the night on Sunday, but attracted far fewer viewers than last year.

The 3 1/2-hour CBS live broadcast of the recording industry's highest honors averaged 17.5 million American viewers, down 2.5 million from the Grammys' 2007 television audience, Nielsen Media Research reported on Monday.

The tally was about 500,000 above the 2006 Grammy ratings low, a telecast that got clobbered by an overlapping episode of the smash hit talent show "American Idol."

That year's Grammy audience of 17 million viewers -- compared to 28 million for "American Idol" -- was the smallest for the music awards in 11 years.

The Grammys' biggest competition this year came from a two-hour episode of the ABC reality show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," which averaged about 15.8 million viewers.

The awards extravaganza likely suffered from a viewership slump that hit TV as a whole this season, in part due to a glut of reruns, game shows and reality shows caused by the Hollywood writers strike. But award shows also have seen a general ratings decline in recent years.

For its golden anniversary show, Grammy producers showcased a dazzling collection of performances, blending veteran acts like Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis with newer stars like Beyonce, the Foo Fighters and Alicia Keys.

The show also benefited from a curiosity factor surrounding the appearance of Winehouse, whose drug abuse and erratic behavior shocked fans last year. She took a break from treatment to perform on the show via satellite from London.

The troubled British soul singer was the night's biggest winner, walking away with a total of five Grammys.

is the Grammy panel finally acknowledging that a ton of people like heavy metal?

I was talking though abt his acceptance speech and how he felt the entitlement to keep on talking, even after his time was up. Sure his mom died, but others have lost a loved one too. Should everyone just keep on talking and talking and to hell with the other people who knew when to shut up? Imagine if everyone there decided to keep on talking merely because they felt "entitled" due to a loss of a loved one earlier in the year? The night would never end. It would have been nice to see the show edited (for the West coast).

very true, that was pompous when he refused to shut up when the music was trying to get him offstage. Yes, it's sad he lost his mother, but he's hardly the only person there whose lost a loved one. Kanye seems to have this MJ/Elvis style ego, but I don't think he realizes that outside of hardcore hip hop fans, most people didn't even know who the hell he was until his "George Bush doesn't care about black people" tirade.

all of his hits so far have been bastardized samples of older songs. "Stronger" is basically an old Daft Punk song with rapping over it, "Gold Digger" was an old Ray Charles song, and "Through The Wire" was essentially Chaka Khan's "Through The Fire". This is talent?
