As Luck Would Have It

Starring Bret Harrison as Sean Marshall, a 24-year-old recent college graduate who decides to move back to his hometown of Chicago after going away to Columbia University, who gets the job as a paralegal to the locally prestigous law firm: Dennison, Bradley, O'Shea, & Associates. Sean has moved back in temporarily with his single mother, Nancy Marshall (Joanna Kerns), a well-known romance novelist who has been recently suffering from a writer's block for the past two years. Along with having Sean move back in with her for a little while, Nancy has taken in her semi-loopy, semi-"with it" longtime widowed mother, Doris Marshall (Georgia Engel). Nancy has never has luck with men, but however back in the early 80's underwent in-vitro fertilization with a sperm donor-thus Sean being born. Now back in town again, Sean is reunited with his childhood/high school best friend, Nick Burleigh (Ryan Devlin) and Nick's high school sweetheart/girlfriend, Stephanie Bridges (Bevin Prince), who are on the verge of becoming engaged but unsure of how to break it to their parents and Sean. Not only does he reunite with past friends, Sean begins to hit it off great with the gorgeous receptionist, Brynn Walsh (Megan Fox), at the law firm where he now works. Sean and Brynn each never had the best of luck with dating and the opposite sex, but now that they met each other, all that is about to change. Brynn lives also with her single mom, Sarah Walsh (Catherine Keener), who too resorted to using a sperm donor after a series of bad luck with men, and Brynn's fun and lush of an aunt, Kathy Walsh (Gina Gershon), who is quite promscious and has severe committment issues with men. Sarah and Kathy's dad left them and their mom when they were young, and a month after Kathy finished high school, their mom committed suicide, which brought the two Walsh sisters close and to realize they are all each other's got, until Sarah had Brynn. Sarah is a Chicago Tribune advice columnist, and Kathy is a manager at one of Chicago's finest Gentleman Clubs. Sean's highly-successful and driven boss, Tim Dennison (Blair Underwood) is always showing Sean the ropes of becoming a successful attorney, but no one said it was going to be a "cake walk" for Sean. Just as Sean and Brynn's relationship becomes more and more serious, and as Nancy and Sarah come to realize they must to do some research about which sperm donor they each used (just to be safe that they didn't end up using same donor back in the day). Sadly, "as luck would have it" Nancy has used "Donor #427" as did Sarah used "Donor #427" from the same sperm bank in Chicago. Nancy and Sarah don't know how to awkwardly break the soon-to-be devastating news to their in-love children, who happen to share the same biological sperm donor father unfortunately. Now what will happen to Sean Marshall and Brynn Walsh after they learn the heartwrenching, unsettling news?!
