After Alice found that envelope with Slim's wishes abt the money and where he wanted the money to go (some orphanage) the girls' easily put the money back without hesitation. Mel didn't. I don't blame him. If it was me, I would have said, "If Slim wanted the money to go to the orphanage so bad, why would he bury it not knowing if anyone would ever find it?" Even in the note Slim mentioned the world having come to an end. So why would someone who wanted the orphanage to receive the money, NOT JUST GIVE IT TO THE ORPHANAGE WHEN HE WAS ALIVE? Or better yet, put it in some bank account until his death so he could be assured the money went straight to the orphanage rather than "HOPE" that the money would be found? STUPID STUPID STUPID!

That money would have been MINE!!!!!$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$;)

This was the ep where I finally got to see the scene with Vera throwing the NET on Mel and the 3 girls making sure he didn't get to go somewhere-lol

Them throwing the net on Mel was used on the later openings (at the "so sweet" part). Sometimes you see something and think "what the heck would cause that?" :) I imagine that's what he was thinking.

Exactly. If the money were to go to some orphanage, why was it buried in the diner? It can't go to them sitting in there. That money was Mel's to keep, as for the orphanage, oh well. It's not like it will suffer because Mel didn't give them some money that was hidden for years. It sat there that long, the orphanage would have just had to without. That was Alice dumb ass idea with her goody-two-shoes self. her ass was struggling, she should have wanted some of that money. That's why I hated the Alice character, she worked in Mel's Diner, and she acted like she was in charge all the time.

Thank you. Someone finally responded to my thread with the topic I posted.

Didn't Vera put the money back in the box first? Either way, Vera or Alice, you know one of them would be the one to say they should give the money back. Poor Mel, he couldn't get a break with any of them ladies around.

They all got away with stuff and saying stuff that was unnacceptable that any other employer would have been fired them for.

This is true. Not only that, even if the girls felt they wanted to give the money to the orphanage, then by all means do it, but Mel didn't have to. They would make him feel guilty for wanting to keep the money. He needed to fix the diner after all that was damaged and it would have been nice for Mel to keep his share since he was more than willing to give $30 grand to them!

A long time ago, the writers at CBS liked to have their characters donate any found money to orphanages. The Dukes of Hazzard always did that. And McGarret on Hawaii Five-O did that once too.

Don't forget Good Times, damn that Florida Evans. She didn't have money donated to an orphanage, but she kept her family from KEEPING money or earning a good salary.
